*There's very few people left in the world like Roland, today.* 99% of these shows, have a goal of either trying to sell/market everything on the boat. Or, they're showing us their wealth of knowledge, as opposed to actually teaching something. Like they love listening to themselves talk. You can feel it when someone is genuinely trying to help you. I was working at Bass Pro Shops, Orlando for a while, and he was there on a slow day, all by himself for some kind of event, and I told him I'm from the Midwest, trying to figure out Florida freshwater fishing (which, I was at the time). It was just a simple comment in passing, and in the context of the situation... And, proceeded to spend what must have been an hour walking me up and down the aisle's of the store showing me setup's, gear, what to use, what will work, what to stay away from, when to use it, how to tie terminal tackle, etc, etc.... It was the most genuine experience I've had to date with someone of his success, caliber, and legendary status. I'm not sure the young people get what a forefather Roland is to fishing....at least as far as syndicated shows go. Roland, Al Linder, Hank Parker, Bill Dance.... All us old guys know exactly what I'm talking about. We didn't grow up being able to watch a fish hit your bait on a screen that cost $2K. And, neither did those guys. The way they talk, and how they teach is so relatable, clear, and genuine. They don't assume ANY-one's knowledge, and explain things as if it's the first time someone is seeing it. And, if people are combing RU-vid for "How-to" videos, then it quite possibly is. Thank you again, to Roland for all he's done for the industry.
I grew up watching you on TV as a little kid and now as a grown man I'm watching you on youtube. I can't even begin to tell you how much you have taught me over the last 28 years I've been watching you. Thank you for taking time out of your day to teach us new techniques. Maybe one day I'll get lucky enough to shake your hand and tell you thank you in person.
I've been fishing in Florida for over 40 years and I feel like a preschooler listening to Roland, he knows so much and loves to share his knowledge. I have learned more in hours watching his videos than I have with actual experience. Thank you Roland, you are the GOAT
You know; Lizards are my favorite bait for Carolina Rigs I never use anything else. They work everywhere shallow water, deep water, weeds, wood, and rocks. I fished with a friend and he used it all the time. I never used a Carolina Rig until I saw how he caught bass, walleye and catfish dragging that thing everywhere. He seldom changed lures unless I was catching bass and he wasn’t. The truth be known, he caught more bass than I did, all the time. He liked a one-ounce egg sinker and red beads. He never used anything but 20-pound monofilament and 15-pound leaders. Watching your video made me think of him and that dam ball and chain he loved to use. Thank you for bring back a the memories I had fishing with him.
@@RolandMartinOutdoors i just fished a bfl on the st John's river and it was slow. Im a coangler and my boater was Carolina rigging and his leader was 4 foot long. He caught 1 and missed 2 all day. I was speed worming all day. Alls i wanted to do was flip the banks but no.
Don't get me wrong, I like watching Scott's videos too (and I've watched more of them than my wife is comfortable with)...but, watching yours makes me feel like a guy just learning from their dad. Now that you're doing the YT thing, I'm sure your subscribers are going to keep going for a while. Maybe the youngins don't know about you, but they will now. Keep giving Scott hell on his challenges too! I love watching you guys fish together. This was a good Carolina rig tutorial. That was a nice 6.6lb girl! Also, you got me using both sides of the senko and biting the tail off a bit, and getting molds to melt down the old ones into new ones... I figure, if YOU are reusing them...who the heck am I not too?!
You said what I was about to say, almost to the letter (including the past about your wife).... Roland's generation....which is my father's generation, I'm probably 5...maybe 10yrs older than Scott, grew up with ENTIRELY different communication skills, and view on life. When Roland explains something he does it in a way that is so darned relatable, and genuine. First off it's genuine..... Far more importantly, he doesn't assume someone's knowledge. *He's not trying to give a display of his knowledge, while selling every product on the boat, he's genuinely trying to help people. There's very few people in the world like that today.* I was working at Bass Pro Shop and he was there on a slow day, all by himself, and I told him I'm from the Midwest, trying to figure out Florida fishing (which I was at the time). And, proceeded to spend what must have been an hour walking me up and down the aisle's of the store showing me setup's, gear, what to use, when, how to tie. It was the most genuine experience I've had to date with someone of his success and caliber. Anway, I'm rambling....you're 100% correct. And, yes....not taking a thing away from Scott. He's great, as well.
A Carolina rig is my go to for big bass.I will even "dead stick" it and watch my line for the slowest moment in the line then RollUp the slack, and bam .I fish from the shoreline around docks and structure I like a 4 or 6 inch green lizard hooked thru the head and come out beside the head and back thru just behind the front leg so the hook is in the side and not underneath as it gives it more action ,I think. Roland you are my fishing hero I am in my mid 50s and h as very watched you since I was a pup. God Bless you and your family
sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Colton Ismael I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Back in 1975 I started following Rolland and Bill Dance. Can not beginning to tell you how much I've learn from these gentlemen over the years. Thanks Rolland 👍
Roland I watched your tv show in the 1980’s. I’m curious if this lake is the same iron ore strip pit lake you fished back then? You did one particular show where you fished out in deep water with a Jig and pig. You went on to explain in the video that people thought of you as mainly a shallow water fisherman but you went to say that you actually preferred to fish deep water structure. That was one of my favorite shows you did. It introduced me to structure fishing as a young teenager. That was such a memorable video for me.
Excellent information. I have known about the Carolina rig for quite a while but have not used it nearly enough or even properly. Thanks so much for this informative video. The best I have seen on the Carolina rig. Roland is the best.
Carolina is one of my favorite rigs. Up here in WA there’s a ton of grass so weedless is the only way to go. I’ve always been told the bead protects the knot from being pinched off by the sliding weight.
Hello Roland, I follow all your you tube videos, I'm over 70 and fish 3 to 4 days a week and hunt ginseng. I Admire your stamina and enthusiasm, a 5 pound bass in our Yankee lakes is like shooting a 10 pt. Buck, it's a big deal. It was 8 degrees this morning. You got us onto senkos. Remember in the early 60's the big purple worm craze, now you never hear about purple worms. Keep makin videos.
Really miss bass fishing in the winter (Eastern NC). Over here in Bali for the last ten years. Guess I'll have to run up to Japan one day as they've stocked bass in some of their lakes. Carolina Rig is my go to lure and really versatile for salt water fishing too.
I never use this rig very much I don't know why but I will start to use it more Thank you Roland like always your knowledge is so valuable to all of us who have been watching you for years
U really no how to make someone want to get back into fishing every sense my dad and brother passed kinda just quit fishing but the way u do your videos inspire me right back into it don't no what it is but it's working went out got a new rod and some tackle thank u
For years I have taken grief for catch and release--- mostly from casual anglers. Diehard fishing fools just like catching and then seeing them swim off. :) I do eat panfish but Bass and Trout get released.
Thank you for your videos! I was taught how to fish at the ocean and I've never had luck in my home state of West Virginia, and its been a real pain finding out how you're supposed to use the different baits. I feel like I've learned more from a few hours of watching your videos than I have in all the years of me catching next to nothing!
Man you are by far my favorite you tube fishing guide! Got me some 297 green pumpkins just have to get out on the boat and put them to work. Keep up the great content!
I grew up with you watching you Roland. Love the Carolina rig but we downsize . Spinning reel with a pegged weight with a toothpick usually a brush hog or JR. Brush hog. Thanks
Love it, Is like going to Harvard with Professor Roland... Love your vids, now In waiting for one on how to read maps, what to look for and how to find fish with maps and electronics
I've tried the Carolina Rig a couple of times before, with no luck. I worked it up hill from the deep water & no bites. I Won't Ever try it again. It's a waste of Time to try it. I'll fish a Ned Rig or Wacky Worm. Maybe a Texas Worm Rig. Thanks for the Video Roland.
You would be surprised by how many fish and how big of fish it catches. Checkout my channel if you need some tips on bassfishing. My pops biggest fish was a 16lb 24inch bass on a carolina rig...pine flat lake
@@KelvinShiFTZ OK, Thank You. CONGRATULATIONS to your Dad. If I try something & it doesn't work, then I try something else. Summer & Very Cold Water are my Toughest Challenges to fish. When I can't catch Bass, I Can Always catch Crappie & Channel Cats. Have a Great Year Kevin.
Thank you for the great content!! Been a “follower” of yours since the 80’s!!! Question: I’ve notice a lot of pros are fishing rods with the “bump heel” handle. Why is this of benefit? Thank you in advance, Roland!!!
😁😁😁😁 at the end of this video, i did notice the crane in the background which I see in alot of your videos. Is this video shot in 2 different locations?
Hey Roland, I had happened across your channel while doing ALOT of researching in to bass fishing. In years past Ive done alot of pan fishing for blues and crappie, mainly bobber or sometimes a light jig and a 2" grub. This Christmas my Grandfather gifted me a whole box of fishing things to go though. everything from spinnerbaits to top water frogs and poppers, just all kinds of stuff. for someone who hasnt targeted bass before, whats some advice you can give?
Hi Roland, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have never fished the Carolina Rig, when you where saying you are getting a "bit", are you feeling it or are you watching the line?
Should I use a carolina rig or texas rig with 12 inch worm in deep water off shore ? What do you think about 12 inch worms off shore deep water ? like or dislike ?
I wouldn't mind catching a hundred little ones every now and then. Although I know what you mean catching a 2 plus pounder is where it's at. Hey, I live in Canada, not Florida....... A 7 lb bass on a 5-inch worm, unbelievable.
@@RolandMartinOutdoors I think the floating worms would be a great video, going over all the different applications and techniques for fishing with floating worms. And I haven't seen any else make videos about them.
Hey uncle Roland I seen the worm with a pink tail I've been looking for them copperhead made one in the late 90s early 2000s with a twisty tail please help me out brown with a pink tail as a kid not knowing much caught me slot of fish and it seems like slot of companies stopped making brown and a pink tail
