So many times in my life I've prostituted my energy and power. All those horrible jobs I took to pay the bills, all those men I dated because I was co-dependent, all the times I swallowed my words because I felt I was in danger to speak them. This is not an easy archetype to heal from.

This is incredible wisdom. I am watching my two parents experience chronic stress, illness, & all kinds of conditions. When you spoke about people who stay together out of some convenience (economic, kids, etc.), but can’t stand one another, that really resonated. And as they age, I am seeing their health decline and it breaks my heart because they’re unwilling to mend their marriage, and neither one will leave. They are in the trenches and I feel helpless. I’m grateful for the clear sight I’ve developed. I was a sensitive kid and could feel their dislike for each other all the years growing up. Their example has taught me a lot. This video really hit home for me, and is really timely. when you said: “the more inner power we have the more we have to sell to the world, so inevitably some dark forces will come knocking on our door.” I experienced this in the flesh a few months ago, I lost my way for a little while and almost made some devastating decisions. I came to my senses, and surrendered it all to God, and have been on a momentous path since then. This dance with the divine is so interesting how it ebbs and flows, and how easily I have lost my way at times. These dark forces can be blinding. I am healing myself, my lineage, and future generations to come. When you spoke about investing in your inner self & creativity, follow your gut instincts, you’ll find yourself saying “I’ll figure out a way, I’ll work another job, I’ll do whatever I have to do but I’m not going to compromise myself.” This explains my path. I began to hear the whispers of my soul since my early 20s or so. I am 30 now. It gets easier and easier to leave jobs that aren’t aligned, to invest in programs that further my soul growth, to keep my vision close, when my family doesn’t understand my choices & plants seeds of doubt. I know my heart, I know my path, and pursuing it is everything. Thank you so much ❤ I love you and your work, thank you for bringing forth your creations & sharing your voice.

It amazes me how this video came up just when I needed it. I am currently giving my power to a man that doesn't want commitment just to feel love, security, and protection. All he gave me was money. And though his money has helped pay to fix my car and buy other necessities; I realized I don't want to give myself for money any more. I want true love, true affection. So yesterday, I finally said no more. Yesterday, I grieved. Today, I am sweeping all the tears out the door. Thank you for this jewel of insight. I needed to hear this today.

"Everything you do is a power negotiation" Well, if that's true the most powerful thing I can do is no longer negotiate. No struggle, no comparison. I don't need to be the most powerful person in a room, but if my power only exists in relation to others- then it is entirely imaginary. I need non-negotiable, flexible, internally sustainable, power. If it comes from anything else, it isn't mine.

This really resonated with me. As a young woman in business, I not only didn't know what my own source of power was, but I sold or bartered what power I did possess. And the price I paid for personal betrayal was stress-related life-threatening cancer. I'm 30 years wiser now, a cancer thriver, but these life lessons, worth gold, are still being learned.

Caroline, this is the very best take on the prostitute archetype I have heard. Listening to this video has helped me feel empowered because, in the act of telling the truth and letting go of relationships that previously served as security, I have been judged by those who wanted me to remain stagnant and beholden to others for the sake of their own security. Thank you. You have helped me to appreciate the courage it takes to restore integrity in my life. ❤

No need to apologize. Touching the surface is probably enough for most of us, because when you give samples and analogies, we can likely all think of something we've experienced that is suddenly explained for us. And that gives us clarity.

Caroline, this is EXCELLENT. Prostitution is selling our soul, our power. I've never heard of this and yet it's all so true. Thank you SO MUCH for differentiating between/explaining the main archetypes and especially THIS particular one of prostitution.

Such a great lecture Thank you Caroline ..have always related most closely to the prostitution archetype ..a survivor of childhood sexual abuse ..the lifetime of self-inflicted abuse I suffered at my own hand as the betrayer was by far the worst abuse I’ve endured and survived. Today, I own my safety. My life, my choices , my actions are mine to protect - a daily battle but waged with the fervour of a dying woman !!

As a self employed master carpenter I’ve experienced all of this and had to make choices that made me lose money to protect my dignity.

Caroline, this message came at a perfect time for me. You gave me acknowledgement that I am doing the right thing no matter how scary and reclaiming the power I've been giving away for years.

I have hemorrhaged most of my life. I'm healing now. This helps so much. Thank you Caroline.

One reason why I meditate every day and a massive reason is to replenish my power. It means I don't have to kiss anyones butt and it means people take me seriously because they know I don't need their approval. I'm friendly and positive as much as I can be but I don't put up with fools anymore. Its very freeing. I like your talk and it is very important. Like you said many people don't have power and it means they have no control. I'm gar from enlightened but I certainly am very greatful to both the teachings of Jesus and the Buddha. Always go to the original source of the religion if you are unsure and align your heart... respect and love and gratitude to the great teachers.

By far the most powerful video, I have listened to on RU-vid ever. Many years ago. I listened to Carolyn Myss book “anatomy of the spirit”, on cassette tape, at least 100 times. Later years, on I did the Archetypes from her book on the 12 (?) archetypes. I was blown away and troubled by having chosen at the top of my archetype clock, both the prostitute, and the addict. It would be many years before I understood, and this video is the explanation. Perhaps Spirit chose to bring that to me today … as I work to “grow up” in my twilight years, and hope to leave the world a better place

This has been life changing for me, I’m going to listen over and over. I am this exact archetype, primed to be pimped by turbulent parents that raised me in an environment where I had to dance around emotional landmines, read body language and expressions, watch my tone, control my own face, carefully choose my words etc. my entire childhood. All to stay safe.

Nothing is more important than you protecting your soul. Protecting your power. Not abdicating your power to anything, to anyone.

Because you have betrayed yourself you don’t trust yourself. Because you don’t trust yourself you don’t trust any guidance coming through!!! That is powerful!!! I have been thinking about this since listening to the lecture yesterday afternoon. It occurs to me that, like money (which can measure and broker power), the archetypes are neutral and their value depends upon how we use them. As I understand it, the prostitute represents the part of ourself that “sells out” for the sake of safety - usually, safety in the community. I have the idea, thought, that the prostitute, when understood and utilized in a particular way, might be a very helpful friend to have. One way of looking at the matter is that, when we operate in a state of awareness, the prostitute asks us to recognize what is worth sacrificing our safety for and what is not. There is an abundance of “bad things” that we can speak out against, and it helps a lot to ask ourselves when we want to endanger ourselves and when we do not. We might also ask ourselves what the consequences of speaking out might be, if we are willing to accept them, and, perhaps, if we need to strengthen ourselves in some way before taking that risk. An example that occurs to me is that of Meghan Markle, who seems to be today’s “anti-it girl.” If my understanding of the situation is even approximately correct, Meghan was the object of certain behaviors while living amongst the royal family, and she choose to speak out publicly about that. It seems to me, however, that she did not anticipate the backlash that she received, with the royal family, the British aristocracy, and the British press colluding in a campaign to persuade the public, and the rest of the world, to discredit her, hate her, and even to ruin her. Yes, Meghan and her husband defied the prostitute, but I am thinking that they might have taken counsel from the prostitute as well. We’re they really willing to experience the consequences of speaking up? Might they have found alliances with other entities who would have helped them to make themselves safer? Might they have found ways of strengthening themselves so that they could tolerate the backlash? When we are not aware, the prostitute may lead us into a situation in which we compromise and weaken ourselves. When we do not listen to the prostitute at all, we may find ourselves in situations that we are not be able to handle and are disastrous to our lives, our families, and whatever causes we are working toward. Once we are aware of the prostitute’s presence and how she operates, though, she may help us develop the ability to make ourselves stronger in order to strike a balance between the need for honesty and for safety, too.

Each video discussing archetypes not only helps me on my personal journey, it helps me to approach character development in my writing in an entirely new way (there is overlap to be sure). Thank you so much for sharing your amazing insight, and making each post a great experience.
