He was amazing as Gomez the original cast were perfect talk about iconic the to and fro between them always gets me, you know, "Tish, you're speaking French again" I just realized watching your presentation that "come hither" look she is giving the camera is the same as the Mona Lisa, and every part as much of a masterpiece.
Yes, bumping this a decade plus later. Indeed, the affection he still shows to this day for her denotes a purity and beauty between them that was visible onscreen. That affection we felt watching them was real.
I saw that in his words. Mr. Astin truly loved her. Omg such a wonderful actor and kind human. Through Mr. Aston I have come to love her spirit also. Thank you John for everything you did and said. I can only imagine how much you miss her. And now through not as much, as do I. Thanks
I remember as a child I was with my mother and my sisters and I were getting innoculated at mt. zion hospital in san francisco...we were that young....after the innoculations my mom took us into the lunch room and bought some food...as we sat there....we looked at the next table over, and my sister jumped up and ran over there....saying "it's morticia!!" and sure enought it was carolyn jones...my sister ran up and hugged her...and she hugged her back...saying hello to her and the rest of us...i remember my mother pulling my sister back, telling her she shouldn't force herself on people....so we sat eating, then carylon got up to leave she came over and hugged my two sisters and myself, and told us to be good, and it was nice to meet us......i have loved her ever since. R.I.P sweet woman.
Had no idea how talented she was but I always thought she brought sexiness and humbleness to Morticia. That and the way her and Gomez interacted was so real and genuine. I loved them as a couple. Hard to believe ABC cancelled them so soon, but the show is just great and I LOVED watching it as a kid.
I just love her!!!. I'm 27 so I was born 24 years after The Addams family was broadcasted, but here in Argentina I remember watching the show as a child, the other kids used to make fun of me for watching and enjoying an "old black and white sitcom" but my thoughts were always the same: "I want to be like Morticia", I saw her as a role model, perfect elegant and smart lady and she made me feel good about myself since I was quite "weird" for the kids of my age, I always liked different things than the rest of people so I felt identified with Morticia's character. It was heart breaking for me when my parents told me she had died many years ago (of course they didn't want to tell me sooner 'cause they knew how much I loved Morticia and Carolyn as an actress in that role). Years passed by and The Addams family movies got out, I loved them and liked Anjelica Huston but for me the one and only Morticia will be Carolyn, after my 20's and thanks to the internet I could learn more about her and got to respect her more than I ever imagined, she won my complete and total admiration and she has a place in my heart. I would've given anything just to have met her at least for 5 minutes and tell her how much I admire her. She was part of my childhood and now she's part of my adult life and I will always love her. I couldn't help but crying at the end of this video. I miss you Carolyn!!! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!.
Gee, thanks, that's really sweet of you to say. :) I actually found something on RU-vid today. It was a video of John Astin at Monster Mania 13 talking about Carolyn...he said that he actually had a last meeting with her right before she died. He said that up until that point they always knew they were attracted to each other but never said anything more about how they felt, but when he met her that last time they told each other all their feelings and that it was really beautiful.
She was such an intriguing and fascinating woman--thank you for uploading this! The way John Astin spoke of Carolyn was absolutely romantic and heartfelt with affection...if they had been a couple, they'd be perfect. Although she was tragically lost at such a young age she will continue to live through the roles she played with such vivacity. R.I.P.
Thanks so much for uploading this. Carolyn Jones was, without question, one of the most profoundly beautiful, most profoundly talented actresses in the history of film or TV. Beyond her shocking beauty and talent, she had a truly incredible charisma. She was not someone that you simply watched. She was someone that you genuinely felt! Her every performance was a living, breathing thing before you, and she made you love her. By all right, she should have been a major star. She shines forever!
I watched the Aadams Family as a kid (loved it) and never knew that Carolyn had been married to Aaron Spelling. He went on to become one of the wealthiest men in Hollywood and she didn't even request alimony in their divorce settlement even though she was a very vital & strong motivator in building his career. She must have truly loved him. Such a rare occurrence in that environment.
The wittiest show in the 1960's, by far--it was good for another 2-3 years of broadcast and the ABC execs were lunkheads by canceling it after just 2 years. "You rang"!
I remember at seven years old, lining up in front of our little black and white television, with my siblings, in our pj’s watching The Addams Family. For me the show has lasted much longer than two seasons, it continues to live inside my memories even these fifty years later. I related to Morticia very much, her obvious joy of life, fierce protection of family and very quick witt. But what I most loved about the show was Gomez and Morticia‘s love affair! Even as a young girl, I desired to have that passion in my future marriage. My sister related to Wednesday, my brother loved the creepiness of the show. Even today my husband loves Uncle Fester! Thank you for putting together this wonderful look down memory lane and the lovely life of Carolyn Jone. 🥰🥰🥰
thank you very much for taking the time to create this tribute to a wonderful human being. there is so much i didn't know about her but thanks to you, i know a bit more. may she rest in peace.
Nice Documentary, well done. Carolyn was a HUGE talent. Yes, she will always be remembered as Morticia, and that is not a bad thing. I remember her in her other roles, and wish that she would have won that Oscar. Secondary Favorite ... Marsha, Queen of Diamonds from Batman .... Soooo Beautiful .... Love you Carolyn ......... You get MY Oscar vote .....
What an incredible inspiration to read while just remembering her beauty and poise..watching reruns of The Addams Family. Wondering what she had done as actress..only to see what she had done as an incredible human being. Her story made me focus on courage and grace. Thank you Carolyn...
It always struck me as a bit ironic that when an actor/actress really nails a role well, where it is so believable that they can never shake it, they really have accomplished a sort of perfection and then are punished forever by it.
Happens all the time though the exceptions to the rule seems to be Ed O'Neill with Al Bundy and Katey Sagal with Peg Bundy but eventually those two would go on to find other successful work yet nothing tops their roles on Married with Children.
What a sweetheart of a person she was. As a kid I watched Adam's Family and loved that show. Every character made that show what it was, a complete hit!! Too bad they pulled the plug on the show after 2 years, that show could have gone more than 10 years or so.
OMG! Thank you for this!!!...and I am happy they said that - since the first moments of my Carolyn-Jones-obsession, I thought that her talent was much bigger than she could show, I'm glad that (not just) I could feel this her high and partly hidden potential.
When I watched the Addams Family during its initial broadcast, I was profoundly affected by the relationship between Morticia and Gomez..... his volcanic love vs. her glowing hot steel.
thank you for sharing this BIO of Ms. Jones. I became curious about her after just watching an episode of the Batman series. Ms.Jones was the character "Queen of Hearts". i thought how beautiful she was. Saddened to learn of such an early death, 53yo. Tho I enjoyed hearing her friends and colegues speak of her so highly!
Very sad ending, tears in my eyes, so young and talented, so many wonderful memories watching her as Morticia, forever in our hearts.............and God called her home.We miss you Carolyn.
I remember Carolyn Jones in House of Wax .. that was to me as a young girl a very scary movie.. I remember in the movie when she was portraying the wax figure of Joan of Arc and her friend thought how much this figure looked like her friend and reached up and pull back the wig to disclose the body.. scared the pee out me😂
So gorgeous and such a loss at an early age. To a young nine year old she was the most beautiful lady I had ever seen. I watch her at every opportunity and can't help but think, "If only I had been a little older .....".
Carolyn Jones's and her characterization of Morticia Addams is the single biggest, most discernable, longest-lasting, boyhood crush of mine. May she Rest In Peace and God bless her soul.
Carolyn who played Morticia in the old The Addams Family died from stomach Cancer and Raul who played Gomez in the modern The Addams Family died from stomach Cancer too. :(
Gawwwd!! Does anyone remember when Ms Jones was on Capitol? I remember the pilot was aired on CBS on the last Friday in March of 1982. If I'm not mistaken. Wow!! 37 years ago! Can't believe that!! 😇🕯🌷
I'm 15 years old and I've watched some episodes of the family addams available on youtube, it still makes me laugh...Carolyn was a great actress and knowing that she and Jhon felt a strong affection in front and behind the cameras, makes it every day. more exciting time
Carolyn Jones played the character of mortisha like no one else could, she made her so incredibly hot and sultry, Carolyn was an actress with incredible talent! the addams family only ran for 2 seasons, but it's still watched and loved, years after she passed! she hasn't been forgotten, R.I.P Carolyn jones!
Remembering her on this day, the birthday of this leading lady and beautiful human being Carolyn Sue Jones. She will always be loved even after the end of time. 1930-1983
I always thought she was beautiful. Her talent and ability to morph into any role and became that person amazed me. She was so much more than Morticia Addams. RIP Sweet Lady. You are Greatly Missed but Never Forgotten. NYC
Yes, you could definitely tell they were very close. It says a lot that he read the eulogy at her funeral. They always had a sort of spark between them, a real attraction, not like the "chemistry" people have today. It's not like John and Carolyn's-their's was definitely real.
RIP Carolyn, aka Morticia... my Halloween costume this year is Morticia, so was nice to come across this video in my youtube feed to see the real story behind this great woman:-)))))))))))))
I know a girl that looks exactly as Carolyn Jones. I mean Exact, height, face, body, except that her eyes are brown. But wow, I don't know if I should ever tell her.
Megan Lee Her husband, aka my friend, might react different from he's wife point of view. I know him so well. But if it was another gal, I would of told her long ago.
Sorry I meant: "Wow I have no more respect than I have for Carolyn I just wish Carolyn and John would've gotten together I know they would've had a beautiful grand romance
I naturally gravitated to Caroline as Morticia.I told myself I was the in real life not T.V. Mortisha when Caroline died.I fully embraced her Mortica to me it kept her alive to this day.Yes I wear a lot of black and black furniture and black car.And make my 1926 house is much like the adams family house.
