I still think it's a damn CRIME that Dredd was ignored October 2012. My brother and I saw it in an empty theater, and absolutely loved it. I want my sequel, I want my Dark Judges, I want my Judge Cal. ALL OF IT NOW!
'Actually quite good'... a modest and guarded understatement if ever there was one. It was one of the best comic book movies that will ever be made. Cyberpunk diehard... that should have been the marketing slogan! I mean, what wasn't to love?
Zombiepull Agreed. It was unfortunate that Dredd was released just a short time after The Raid, as it inevitably got so many comparisons at the time. But you're right, these days, people seem to accept Dredd a lot more easily for what it is and what it does very, very well. And "cyberpunk Die Hard directed by John Carpenter" really does sum it up perfectly. That's why Dredd's one of my favourite action movies of the past decade - it's not just a great adaptation of my favourite comic, it's also got that great retro/cult classic feel to it while still feeling fresh.
"Nobody" is obviously a hyperbole in my comment. As is "everyone". The point is that the film lost tens of millions even on a small-ish budget. Not a chance to get a sequel.
+Carrionlust There are talks about a NETFLIX or Amazon TV show. That would be better because instead of a 1:40 movie we'd get 13 episodes of JUDGE DREDD made by the same people with the same love they put on the film.
Karl Urban is fully backing this idea to turn DREDD into a show or another movie. He is leaning more towards a TV show. Karl Urban will make this happen. He loves this role!!! I'm excited, even though it may take a year or two to watch. -Amanda
I watched the movie again last night because of this song and video. Such a great movie and unfortunate there was no sequel. But at least we get more Disney Marvel movies...yay...😢
Well now, to be fair to the Stalone film, it DID represent some of the more cartoony elements of the comics pretty well. If executive meddling hadn't screwed stuff up, it could have been a decent Judge Dredd adaptation. Stalone himself even tried to argue when they forced him to take off the helmet since Dredd is never seen without it.
This one movie has more dedicated art and lore than the entire MCU and DCU combined, it doesn't need a sequel. This is the comic book fan's Die Hard and it's a perfect masterpiece.
There may never be another DREDD, but it's possible we will get a sequel to Legacy. If so, I'm going to see it at least 3 times in theaters. It's my favorite movie of all time, and I've watched a hell of a lot of movies.
Without knowing any backstory, watched this at the cinema, it was the most fun I had at an action/hero movie in years. Still hasn't been beaten. Also it feels better than the previous Dredd in my opinion. Definitely needs another movie !
Yes it’s really good, key vid in one of my Playlists. He gave me insight into his method and i’ve got loads of ideas i want to do but no means or PC know how. One day!
Dredd was a god damn masterpiece. I think that if it had come out now, especially in the climate created by the Sistine Chapel of action movies, Mad Max: Fury Road, it would have done better. I think no one knew what to make of it or how to appreciate it. Now, people would see its brilliance.
Honestly, the issue wasn't the time in which it came out, although there were other movies that released at the time that got more attention than Dredd. The issue was Lionsgate and the terrible marketing that they did for Dredd. I saw the movie in 3D in an empty theater, and to this day it's THE best 3D movie I have seen, nothing comes close. The slow-mo, the color palette that they chose for many of the scenes in the movie, and the perfect amount of images coming at you without being cliche in the usage of said 3D trope, it was beautiful. And even watching on the small screen it's a beauty. Just sad that lionsgate failed to market this masterpiece.
I agree 1000%. Dredd simply came out a few years before the market was ready for it. If Dredd had come out in 2015 or later it would've been totally different. By then, the 80s action and sci-fi nostalgia, retro-futurism, and synthwave culture would've already been in full swing. Movies like Fury Road and the new Blade Runner, and the popularity of shows like Stranger Things, are all evidence of this.
The fact is, this movie was a masterpiece, but the company responsible for it probably had a insanely trash marketing department, and after that masterfull piece of art failed to pay itself, the company probably blamed the movie for not beign interesting enough to make money. As long as i can say, this movie is one of the best of that genre, it was suposed to be Carl Urban's redemption, it was suposed to be the beginning of a new cyberpunk wave, but what they did with it was unforgivable. I live on a third world country, so every movie gets released after the US, so basicaly i never got the opportunity to watch it on, honestly i didn't even knew it existed until i watched it on a movie chanel.
[Verse 1] Skyless kingdom of faceless apes Sunless city and spineless shades [Chorus] In twenty-seventy or so Tenements on fire Blazing through endless nights [Verse 2] Heavy downpours of charcoal rain Spewing sewers and belching drains [Chorus] In twenty-seventy or so Tenements on fire Blazing through endless nights [Bridge] And behind every spy hole Car wrecks and barbwire Dirty streets and knife fights [Verse 3] Ruins and leavers everywhere Fear of a pagan world Behind the flames and the prayers Soulless creatures burn [Chorus] In twenty-seventy or so Tenements on fire (In the navel of God) Blazing through endless nights [Bridge] And behind every spy hole Car wrecks and barbwire (In the navel of God) Dirty streets and knife fights
Such an underrated movie. I watch this every time it's on the movie channels. Karl Unger did an AMAZING job as Dredd, and he never even showed his face. I was so happy about that.
Great movie. I always enjoy watching Karl Urban. He has a blast playing every character he takes on. Always found the actors/actresses that take their roles seriously, but also have fun with it to be the best to watch.
I don't understand why this movie didn't do better. It is SO WELL DONE. I've seen it too many times. Watch it in black and white if you can, as well. It's pretty cool.
*_I soo pray to the imaginary bearded wizard in the sky that there is a Dredd 2 or at least a Dredd series on Netflix... PLEASE! COME ON DREDD WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!...._*
I bought the DVD of this Movie, watched it and love it. Modern Movie that still has the strong Vibes from Old School Action Movies. Karl Urban did not play Jugde Dredd, he was Jugde Dredd. What a stunning performance.
I first started listen this music video several times, then I watched DREDD movie. Like movie and like this song amazing. And that music perfectly fit into this video. TOP.
GD this movie was soooooooo criminally underrated that Dredd should dispatch us all with extreme prejudice. The world didn't deserve a movie this good.
Thanks! yeah I had the idea in my head for like a month or so because I've seen the movie many times, so when I finally stopped being lazy I gave it a couple hours and this is the end product. Reply
Rikhdrahart it’s rumoured they’re negotiating to get Urban back as Dredd but he probably won’t be in every episode Check out Mr H Reviews for more details
I liked Dredd, wouldn't consider it one of my favorite movies but definitely enjoyable. However, the video is just amazing. Not sure exactly why, but it fits together so well! Good job.
Knowing this movie won't have a sequel makes me so freaking sad... in an age where there's an 8th fast and the furious and even crappy things like DC movies get sequels...
I've seen the Judge Dredd movie with Stalone...once. And I'd like to keep it that way, if I can. THIS Dredd movie is awesome! As much as a sequel would be nice, I suppose it's best we just enjoy what we have, lest we tempt fate and give Hollywood a chance to fuck it up.
Dredd was entering tower blocks back in the early eighties in the comics. It was a pity that Raid was so similar, but definitely not Dredd writers fault
back from copy right hell I love this video playing this song... the synergy is so good... makes me want to watch the movie... so stop taking it down...
I've watched this movie a few week ago, it was awesome, Lena Headey is really good as a vilain and the Judge role suit very well To Karl Urban, i prefer him in the role than Silvester Stalone.
dredd fan since a wean ( wee lassie ) child, i loved this movie, when anderson was reluctant to wear her helmet ...we all know why..psi judge anderson, i'd love to see mean machine not look like a gimp if he was brought back as a villain, he's my favourite , alongside judge death. direct mean machine properly, his soft boy backstory is how he became a power thanks to his family. and done right he could look phenomenal in a dredd movie, even steal the show, lena heady in this movie was f**king epic.
