Thanks to the Karen Carpenter forum for all the great pictures. This video is probably my favorite of all the Christmas videos I've made. The song is so beautiful, and I love the pictures. Please enjoy.
Karen Carpenter had the most Angelic voice in the world---beautiful actually. It broke my heart when she died. I'm just so sorry that not a single person could ever help her on time Rest in Peace Sweet Lady!
We were all enchanted by her voice. She will be singing if the "Ruling" stands, otherwise she'd be on the Drums. She was first & Foremost a drummer who sang.
Would have loved to hear a duet with Karen and Carl Wilson of the BeachBoys Possessors of 2 of the most angelic voices of the pop music world (listen to Carl’s lead vocal on God Only Knows for proof)
Wish she loved herself as much as we all love her. I'm so glad that she recorded so much music in her short life. RIP Karen - you are sorely missed.... xoxo
THAT VOICE! THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE I HAVE EVER HEARD OR WILL EVER HEAR! HER VOICE IS CHRISTMAS! AND LOVE AND ROMANCE!.. no one, and i mean NO ONE will ever come close to the sheer pure beauty, intimacy, moving, rich, emotional, otherworldly perfection of that voice of hers! not only was it the sound of her voice, but how she used it. her phrasing, emoting, her PERFECT DICTION and ANNUNCIATION of every single syllable and word, how she sang and told "the story of the song" and so on...
EXACTLY RIGHT mbblover (what does that mean lol ). Some of us have the ears to hear the magic. Isn't it wonderful to listen to music you know others just can't hear? How many times I've called it a blessing and a curse. I've been listening and playing pop and jazz music for many years and I say Karen Carpenter had one of the best female pop voices ....ever!
Many future generations will enjoy her beautiful voice. The older I get the more these words mean. None of us can go back in time to visit people and times we love so these words are poignant..
It's 12-24-2022, and I'm listening to this, as I miss my parents and other family members, many who are gone now. Merry Christmas to all who read this, and make fond memories of that day, you'll someday need them!
What a sweet woman and angelic voice. I believe she is in heaven with the chorus of angels. What a beautiful lady and a great legend that will leave on and continue to touch many hearts.
+gvalley07 exactly.. NO ONE could tell the story of the song (any song she ever sang) like her and she was and always will be the EPITOME OF A SINGER WHO SING TO AND FOR YOU NOT AT YOU!... the most beautiful, intimate, rich, moving, perfect voice i have ever heard and will ever hear! her voice was/ is and always will be christmas, romance and love....
@@mbblover my thoughts exactly..she is one fine woman. Lovely an beautiful. I've been a fan since they started. Love her Christmas songs. Not Christmas without hearing her sing Christmas.
+gordon buzzell , That's quite harsh and judgmental to boot. Karen, like us all, was only human. There's also so much more to this story than we'll ever know. Her workaholic brother and cold mother who always favored Richard for some reason also contributed to much of her problem. We are all flawed and weak in some way.
I challenge you to find a flaw in her voice. Kayla is right, and it's not as much putting other singers down as it is acknowledging the exquisite voice of Karen Carpenter.
I was a "military kid", I spent Christmas in Virginia, California, Guam, Japan and about a dozen other places. My parents have long since left this life, and so I really have no "home" to go back to. My kids have all moved on and left me behind, though I will say I am proud of their success. To me, going home for Christmas is listening to Karen while I go for a drive, or when I retire for the night. Karen is always there to soothe away the chaos of the world I try to live in. Thank you and as has been the case for 45+ years, I love you Karen.
this song was written by a soldier in World War 2 who was at war. Every other year my son is in Afghanistan, and while I love this song most of the time I can't listen to it. Remember our soldiers are Christmas. Find your local chapter a Blue Ribbon Mothers and make a donation of Christmas presents. Many of these soldiers received nothing. Thank You.
This message from me to you maybe a bit late but yes as a mum I know the feeling of having a son on deployment at Christmas I always set his place at the table waiting for the day he and his troop come back home safe and sound always sent care packages Merry Christmas from me to you
The lyrics were written by Kim Gannon - there is no indication in his bio about service in the US Army - regardless, the song is written from the point of view of a soldier away from home in WW2...Karen's version, like just about everything else she sang, is gorgeous, almost beyond description...GOAT!
Yes, I just listened to this and I feel that Christmas is already here now. Her voice has that quality that draws us into whatever she sings. Superstar is a powerful example.
Christmas is not Christmas until I hear Karen, the best of Christmas Songs and any other song. One of a kind. So many want a be's out there now that will never be close to Karen. YOU are missed Karen, RIP.
The Carpenter's Christmas collection is all anyone needs to hear how special she was. There are so many excellent versions of so many great songs. However, The Carpenters are among the top handful of singers to ever record Christmas songs. I know art is not a competition, but when a dozen or more artists record the same song and Karen's voice is the one that becomes definitive, it's hard to doubt she is among the greatest singers in history. And Richard was a true artist himself.
My god that voice! unreal, unbelievably hautingly beautiful! vocal perfection! phonogenic! i could listen to her sing christmas songs in the middle of summer!
What a beautiful voice she had, one of the best all time and my favorite version of this song too, wish she were still here with that magical voice singing again.
My favorite Christmas song and I think of her each holiday season. This is the best version of this song I have ever heard. R.I.P. Karen. You are home!
Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, was on Reddit today ( IAmA ) : " I am xxx ask me anything ". He mentioned he always loved her singing. Looking at the distant blue marble from space while listening to Karen Carpenter, I would like to think that that happened.
Always thinking of this special gal with a miraculous voice. Carpenters' and Johnny Mathis' versions of I'll Be Home for Christmas are the absolutely best.
Listening to Karen makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy that we had her to enjoy, but oh so sad she's gone and we only have a these recordings to remember her. A magical voice and wonderful lady and very much missed.
Oh Karen *sob* Why did you have to go?! I'm choking up right now, I listen to this song every year and I never cease to cry when listening to it. Rest in peace Karen! We all love you!
I have to say, Karen you almost became Christmas music! Such a wonderful voice! Rest in peace sweet angel, you were and still always are loved by many!
Love her!! Miss her !!...this song makes me think of home ...so sad now thats gone now..mom and dad are gone and our families are all scattered...Makes me wish for days gone by!!!😞😞
+Marty Newman Dearest, dearest Marty Newman.....so very sorry for your losses! We pray love, joy and peace be yours today, tomorrow and always!!! Merry Christmas dear one!!! :'-)
Same here, it sucks to think about the good memories we had as kids and how we r so separated now, but it's more important that we r all safe and making progress in our life decision. Merry Early Christmas for everyone and for those that still have your family with you this Christmas, enjoy it like you never have had!
+Tina Nguyen I so agree with all of you on here. Karen was a treasure, it was a different time in our country when she was alive and singing, same with John Denver. those two created Christmas specials that you just don't see today. it does suck! this atheist nation doesn't even celebrate Christmas! makes me mad. Karen had a voice that was totally Unmatched. unlike the screamers today. that's what they do. they scream, and do voice acrobatics. Karen was natural. she left us way too soon. I would rather listen to Karen carpenter, than celine or Mariah or any other pop tart today. The carpenters music is a national treasure.
+Marty Newman I lost my Mom 15 years ago and this was our favorite Christmas album and the Carpenters her favorite artists. I admit that even after all this time the holidays without her haven't gotten any easier. It's a terrible time of year when you're orphaned...especially when you're surrounded by people who don't understand. I'm sad reading that others here have the same experience.
Merry Christmas to my late son Nicky,,,May you rest in perfect peace.. I wish you were coming home :( I miss you so much.. Christmas has never been the same without you. Life has not been the same.. Merry Christmas everyone and God Bless from New York...
Any song Karen sings turns to gold in my ears.... so Beautiful her voice was .... OH how we miss you Karen Carpenter you very special voiced lady WOW!! The Angles in Heaven are enjoying her voice now :)
+Worldofnana Berger This song was written during WWII, and according to Wikipedia was not originally intended to serve as a song for the GI's who were overseas. My parents were separated during the war and I remember my mom telling me how this song affected her while my dad was gone. We're Jewish, but still, the song invoked and still invokes strong memories of love between generations.
+Gary Feilich thank you .I remember WW2 so frightening .this song is one of my favorites my husband was in Korea and I was expecting my first child .lots of tears when this song would play .
I still cry every Christmas when I hear this song. It's as if she is singing from heaven. "I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams." Most beautiful voice of all time!!
