Hello Angela: It is difficult to listen to Karen sing a song and just enjoy it in a detached manner. She draws you in, relating lyrics to universally shared emotions and experiences within the listener, and pulls the heart strings. It was, in addition to the tonal purity of her voice, her superpower. 👍👍❤❤

I was fortunate enough to see them perform live in concert in the early 70's. They were my favorite group.

Angela....you are just a doll! And, yes...it is, "her voice." I could listen to her sing the phone book and be in tears. Anyway....going to request, again, "Kiss Me The Way You Did Last Night." It's on the Lovelines album and it's the sweetest, nicest song. And, of course, "her voice" is like no other and second to none. Keep up the reactions. You are the best!

Lovely Angela is a fellow member of the Karen Carpenter fan club. Most young reactors are amazed by Karen's voice. A few are unable to grasp the beauty of her tonal qualities, perfect enunciation and phrasing, breathing techniques, vibrato control and the emotions that she shared (just as most of us related to) from her personal inner struggles. Karen sang beautiful and profoundly emotional masterpieces and I feel sad for those that cannot feel exhilarated by the loveliest thing that i will experience during my time on this earth. This song is from the Carpenters' third album, titled "Carpenters" (1971). The album was nicknamed "the Tan Album" by fans because of its simple tan cover. This album also was the first time that the soon-to-be-famous "CarpenterS" logo was used. Other songs on this album were "Superstar," "Rainy Days and Mondays," "For All We Know" and "A Place to Hideaway."

It should be said that this song was written by Paul Williams. A huge lyricist in the 1970's. He also wrote The Carpenter hits...'WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN', "RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS' AND "I WON'T LAST A DAY WITHOUT YOU'. Other hits include: 'YOU AND ME AGAINST THE WORLD', AN OLD FASHIONED LOVE SONG', 'OUT IN THE COUNTRY', 'EVERGREEN' and 'THE RAINBOW CONNECTION'. Today Paul is President of ASCAP who oversee licensing and more for songwriters, musicians, etc.

No, her attempted solo album was from around 79/80. This song and performance is from ‘71

i'm thinking? "bless the beasts and the children", "someday", "touch me when were dancing", "you're the one", "one love" up next for reaction...and of course since it's holiday time, "merry christmas darling" and her version of "i'll be home for christmas"..

Someone else mentioned it, but take a listen to “Rode Ode” not released as a single but it’s so poignant and really reflected the pressures of touring.

This performance was from their 1971 summer variety tv series, “Make Your Own Kind of Music.” Her solo album was recorded nine years after this. Great reaction as usual!

My wife had dementia the last 15 years and on our 61st anniversary they told me I was no longer able to take care of her. If you want to go down another awesome rabbit hole, check out Home Free. Their harmonies are absolutely awesome. Austin has a beautiful high tenor voice, and Tim's bass lines... They are primarily a country a capella band, but they do other genre, such as Boyz 2 Men "End of the Road," and you'll be blown away by their rendition of Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves A Woman." They also do originals, like "Champagne Taste (on a beer budget), and "Full of Cheer," which is supposedly a Christmas follow on to Champagne Taste. They also do a lot of funny videos, as well as some beautiful gospel and Christmas songs. If you do check them out, wait for about 9 or 10 songs before you check out "Mayday" (you'll understand when you see it). A lot of reactors start with "A Man of Constant Sorrow" because it highlights many of their talents. I really think you will enjoy them. If I were to pick a band to cover Karen's music, it would be Home Free. They would be the only ones I would trust to respect the music/artist and do her justice. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Hi Angela. This was from a 1971 tv show. Not solo. Karen did one solo album in 1980. Was not released until 13 years after her death. If you reacted to one I think you’d love “if we try”. A little r&b sound. The song “Rock with you” was written for her album. She turned it down and Michael Jackson took it. This gives you an idea of one direction her solo album was going. Lovelines and my body keeps changing my mind (lol) also had a groove to them. Her voice of course was great on solo album.

No, this is from the Richard and Karen years. It was written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols, the same duo that wrote Rainy Days and Mondays and We've Only Just Begun. Although Richard wrote a sizable number of their catalog, sometimes with partner John Bettis, even more of their songs were written by others, and they tended to go back to the same writers. In addition to Nichols and Williams, they had hits with several Leon Russell songs: Superstar, A Song For You and This Masquerade.

Angela, as always karens voice is indescribable, another great song by them. "Somsday" by Karen and richard I believe shows her vocals like no other song of theirs. She was only 19 and richard was23 at the time. Please treat yourself and us with a reaction to this one.

No, this was not her solo; this was actually one of the earlier ones: 1970.

Karen was my first love. We learned ‘Yesterday Once More’ at school and I loved it, so I stole my parents Greatest Hits album, put it on tape and have never really stopped listening to the album since (I was 8, I am now 33) My personal favourites are ‘sweet sweet smile’ and ‘happy’, but requests for the channel could be ‘goodbye to love’ or ‘calling occupants (of inter-planitery craft)’. They are both show stoppers. I’m so pleased to have found your channel, Ive never met anyone who loves The Carpenters as much as I do, so it’s nice to read all the lovely notes from others about Karen.

I know it’s been mentioned by this one was fairly early on in Karen’s career. If you’re looking for something from Karen’s solo album I’d personally suggest ‘If I Had You’, ‘If We Try’ or (and this possibly my favourite of these three) ‘Make Believe It’s Your First Time’. There’s some great songs in there, but you don’t expect anything less with Karen’s voice.

This was a Paul Williams-Roger Nichols song they had covered on I believe it was the "Sonf for You" album. They re-worked it and released it in early 1974, as they were on an extended world tour. It peaked at #11 on the Hot 100 and #1 on Adult Charts. They had just come off being the #1 selling act of 1973 (for which they one the first American Music Awards as Top Artist in early 1974).They did not release a new single until "Please Mr. Postman" late that year and reach #1 in January 1975.

No, this is not from her solo album, which I don't believe was released until about 17 or 18 years after her death, since it was just too much "disco" style. Still, it sold around 1 million copies world-wide. I always felt she should have created more Jazz/Blues, in the style of This Masquerade, or definitely Country Music style albums, as she could move among those genres of music, and she had the voice to do it too.
