Live at Eden Hal in Amsterdam, Holland, 1976. Sadly, it's not the full concert, and originally ends after Superstar... But I have added Rainy Days and Mondays and Goodbye to Love (available in audio only) to finish off the Hits Medley.
Today it is 21th of may 2022 year and I with great pleasure listen most wonderful, amasing and charming voice of her - The Best Female Singer - Caren Carpenter!!!!!!!! Her bright Star burnes and shines brighter and stronger nowaday in 21 sentury!!!
Karen was a "Classic" without being born decades ago. She died at 32, which was my age at the time. I was stunned, especially when I heard why. What a loss for those of us who loved her dearly.
loved their music and saw them about 4 to 5 times in and around southern california!! So to fun to meet her at our dentist office in Downey in October 1976....we spoke for a little a while before she came in and i had just left!! She was so nice to me at 24 years old and she was so cute in person!! such a great memory!!!!!
This concert was at an indoor ice skate hall in Amsterdam where a lot of famous artists held their concerts: Abba,Bob Marley,Marvin Gaye,ACDC,van Halen,Fleetwood Mac and the Carpenters and many more. My daughter gets there figure skate lessons today!
I am here in May 2024. Although I heard the Carpenters in the 70s as a teenager I am just now learning more about them and the amazing music prodigies they BOTH were. Never even knew how great Karen was also on the drums. I am sad like all that her life was cut short... but she did a great deal and touched so many in the years she was here and we can still enjoy these concerts and her soothing voice. They both had quite a legacy.. I ache for Richard who must miss her every day. Glad he has a family...
Yes! Exactly! I was only a couple of years older than that when they 1st starred and that's how I still feel.I thought and still do that something must be wrong with me.Ha! I guess it is the talent and the voice that puts us in that space. Thanks! I'm not alone.
I didn't get to see them live either, but I gave myself many a concert in my mama and daddy's livingroom. I set that album up in a chair and listened and sang along; You know the one, Karen in beautiful white dress. Mr. Guder was on that album.😊
CARPENTERS plain & simple were GIFTED & ANOINTED & ORDAINED by God to impact a Nation & Society at a time of Dark Evil Turmoil dividing America > CARPENTERS Shot Up like a METEOR by God's Hand (15 Mega Hits & 20+M Sales in just 1st 4 yrs.) still a Record today 2021 & they needed to Recognize that Divine Gift & God's Agenda & Seek God's Presence to GUIDE them > Not HOLLYWOOD guiding them.
So great The Carpenters did this great concert in my country The Netherlands and it was recorded!! You can see the fantastic personalities of Karen and Richard in a live show. This is a jewel to cherish! RIP Karen we miss you so much 😭
Superstar is one of those songs that never should have been cut down and shoved into a medley. It's one of the ten greatest ballads of the entire rock era--and one of Karen's finest performances (and that's saying something). The earlier clips of her singing the entire song (as in the BBC concert) are Karen a her very best.
My parents were there, really! Been looking if I could see them in the audience. I wasn't even born ;) Though not long after I got conceived haha. So maybe.. just maybe... This concert was a cause of that ;) I do admit... I love the Carpenters..
That's such a cute story. I know exactly when I conceived my Son. I give him a present each year since it's in the Spring and he was born in the Winter.

Yes! My favorite part of the show is Karen going into the audience.I love her comedy and facial expressions! She could of done comedy for sure! What a great personality and smile! Karen the Drummer, Bass player, great dancer and the best voice I have ever heard. So much talent and a nice person to boot!
Wow!! It looks like they had a blast in Holland. Never seen Karen and Richard like this. Karen’s interaction with the audience was really incredible and endearing!
There backing band is unbelievable !!! All the instruments -Vocals ... It’s like combining Chicago -The Beach Boys-topped off with Karen’s perfect Voice and Richard’s Direction. Lots of hard work ... and well done! Still not in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame !! Why?
The Carpenters don't need R&RHOF, theybwere famous and known around the world. R&RHOF is a big trash. So many great, legend and iconic singers from then and now but they were never recognized by the garbage R&RHOF. 💪💪💪
In the 1976 London concert, she shined on "Strike Up The Band", and with that performance on percussion, complete with prerecorded cannon fire, Karen and Richard and his band seemed to do "America's Bicentennial Salute" on this long-revered George Gershwin favorite. Also - It seems like Karen's drumming itself in that song seemed to be as spectacular as an American fireworks display.
She was fantastic like that. Apparently, when they toured Japan, she employed a language coach to not only teach her phrases of the language she could use to communicate with fans, but also how to vary the accent in the different dialects as they moved from city to city.
That Karen Carpenter... such a wonderful singer whether live or on records... which is rare. Not to say; most probably the first female fantasic drummer of all times!!! Multiple thanks for posting !
I liked the Classic voice karen Carpenters..including my father and my sisters...family as well.. is so nice to hear..decades decades will past Carpenters still good sounds worldwide...
I grew up listening to Richard & Karen, radio, my Realistic Stereo Turntable with the Singles 1969-73 playing on auto repeat. It would be an awesome experience just to meet Richard and converse about his life experiences. I’m sure he’s a grandpa like myself, with all the grandeur he has, I’m positive his grandkids make his life complete.
Fantastic! Wow. No flashing lights, pyrotechnics, or gyrating dancers! Just great live singing. Who would have thought this is how it used to be when it was just super talent on the stage. Thanks for the video.
I wish they would put this Amsterdam show on dvd.I love when she goes into the crowd! Thanks for posting this. I come back often to watch this great performance.
Thank You once again Billy for all of the magic of The Carpenters that you find for us.We really do appreciate all of your hard work keeping The Carpenters legacy Alive!
Goat nobody will ever come close to her beautiful voice and so cute i miss her deeply listen to her music every day and loved them when i was school im 65 now love you Karen
The Carpenters (officially known as Carpenters[a]) were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950-1983) and Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinct, soft, musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with numerous singles and several television specials.
What an entertaining concert! The perfect match of Schtick, featured showmanship, interspersed with their hit ballads. We'll worth the price of admission whatever it was. Thanks for posting.
i heard she was very shy and was scared to come in front and leave the drums. but she became an amazing frontwoman. if she didnt have the greatest voice of the 20th century, maybe she would have stayed behind the drums. whatever karen did, she was amazing. too bad she and the carpenters ended the way they did, because for vioce was getting better and better. ive suffered from mental illness for years, if it wasnt from listening to keren singing, i would be dead a long time ago.
Her performance here of "I need to be in love" is just breathtaking. So often, her live performances of songs are almost indistinguishable from the recorded version and this is one of the rare occasions she veers away from the studio version and goes slightly off-script, in the best possible way, emphasising the words slightly differently and creating an absolutely magical experience.
It seems quite impossible that a girl (Karen) so full of spirit and sense of humour, so funny, so shiny, so graciously 'dominating' the stage taking fixed on herself the eyes of everyone in the public, could have such a disease in her soul... No one seems so far from being a problematic person than her!! Love Karen!!!
I CRIED MY EYES OUT WHEN I HEARD KAREN HAD DIED. I CRY NOW WHEN I HEAR HER VOICE AGAIN. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL PERSON INSIDE AND OUT AND OF COURSE HER VOICE WAS HEAVENLY. IN MY HEART SHE WAS SO INNOCENT AND PRECIOUS. WE WANT TO SAY, WHY WAS SHE TAKEN SO SOON. BUT WE KNOW IT'S NOT OUR DECISION. SO I WILL PLAY HER MUSIC AND REMEMBER HOW SHE MADE ME FEEL. GOODBYE, KAREN.
so theres a piano at my dads retirement home. im playing, and broke into yesterday once more. my brother said: no way! the carpenters! the carpenters will last for ever
Amazing and super talented woman..just listen to her speaking voice,OMG!even girls may fell in love with her. SO,damn to boys who ever hurt my KC...i'm not a man but i love her very much..KC,you're still my lady and my girlfriend...love you forever.
This music in this concert had nearly everything but the kitchen sink, combining the hard rock you see from groups like Queen all the way to the Barry White Disco orchestra to regular classical music fare - and in between, the easy listening songs the Carpenters were known for years for......
I enjoyed this very much. It was roughly the same format of the concert I went to at The London Palladium all those years ago, where an album was recorded live. Happier days sigh!
