So perfect sounded like studio but not. She was that good. Here is voice analysis that proves it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HWB96ZLWUUw.html
I love Karen's voice. She had the best natural singing voice I've ever heard. The Carpenters hit the charts while I was in my early 20s and their music surrounds many of my memories of the time. Every time I've heard her voice since she passed, I've been slammed by the tragedy of her death and the loss of that fabulous voice.
timothy mackin// I concur my Friend, Only had her for a while, In the early 1970 I WAS ON a SSBN SUBMARINE if it was not for them I may have lost my mind......
This was my first concert. Saw them at the original Oakdale Theater with the revolving state. I was just a kid and mesmerized. I still get chocked up when I hear her sing. I'm so thankful my parents took me to see them.
Karen’s voice simply touches and caresses my heart. Its beautifully soft, warm tone just sends me. What a privilege to have seen - and heard - an angel right here on earth. Godspeed, Karen..and Thank You for having held my hand thru the good times, esp the bad! ✝️🙏💝💐♥️
Karen is a lovely angel. God bless her and her band. Here is a great story. She made me feel like she's a big sister telling me the greatest love story..Thank you Carpenters..
She was always so consistently magnificent. Just effortless and easy yet phenomenal. Beautiful instrument and God given talent!! Love you always Karen!!
My first Carpenters' album was Now & Then. My mom said she could hear me singing "Jambalaya" at the top of my lungs. I used to know the words of every song on that album.
I wrote a letter for Karen saying how I really love her music. I in my High school in the Philippines then. I wasnt sure if she received my letter or she just couldnt understand my English then. I still love her!
Those people in the audience were completely mesmerized...lol! She had such stage command with her composure and voice. People were just locked in witnessing something very extraordinaire.
that was a dinner theratr. how cool would have that been to be there eating and drinking wine. karen was the greatest singer who ever lived, and thanks to richards amazing arrangements. i will always love both of them
Yes,, and it's actually quite bizarre that she faced accusations of not being a very charismatic live performer, and that she and Richard, urged on by new management, felt compelled to introduce more gimmicky numbers to their later live shows in an attempt to add more "pizazz" or "oomph". I hadn't watched this particular show for a few years, and the one thing that jumped out to me when I watched it a few days, 50 years to the day after it was first transmitted, was how engaged Karen was with the audience. I also love the way that she made subtle changes of intonation and phrasing from the recorded version of the songs, meaning that we got the best of both worlds: her marvellous voice and peerless vocalisation, but at the same time an entirely fresh version of each of the songs, all of which added to the impression that she was singing "just for you".
They are all cross trained in playing different instruments. The sad part is everyone on stage is now dead except the lone survivor Richard who put this whole act together.
Karen, many thanks for the phenomenal sounds you left for your fans. 50 years on, your songs still give me thrills and chills. Rest In Perpetual Peace, beautiful lady ❤️💐.
Great great show!! She looks so beautiful and happy here!! Luv it!!! There is only a few singers that can bring a tear to my eye. Karen does it every time for me. It’s 2020 now and there is so much chaos and hatred today, these concerts are my escape. 💜💜💜 Thanks Karen!💜💜💜 And Jambalaya has got to be the best pick me up song!!!💜
IN my opinion, Richard and Karen were both Genius in what they did. Karen was absolutely one of the most phenomenal singers that ever lived. She had a voice like no one else that ever lived. and in this video you can see how incredible she is at the drums. Karen not only touched your heart with her voice, but she went much further in touching your soul. Richard was a master at arrangements. Karen could not be more Loved and missed right now. NO one else could ever touch the voice of Karen Carpenter!!!
I don't know why they attract me so much. They played so emotionally and authentic, that's it. I usuallly listen to very different music. I love their abilities and the feeling for good songs.
Same feelings are here! What a great duo! I absolutely admire and adore them... BOTH!!! There were absolute great abilities and god-given talents they both had!
Actually according to Phil (see here) she was singing to a backing track. But it was her singing live. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HWB96ZLWUUw.html
I watched this as it was broadcast in '74. It left a huge impression. No videos etc back then and I thought I'd probably never see it again. Thanks Billy! Richard and Karen were talented beyond measure and Tony P is still underrated in the history of guitar. For me he was one of the greats.
Love to see Karen rockin' on the drums in the formal attire. Priceless stuff. She really was a great drummer and you can see how much she loved to play. They kind of took that away from her to get her out front more.
That's the infuriating part of that illness. There's nothing anybody can do. Even if they weigh 75 pounds, when they look at the mirror they see themselves obese. I met a couple of anorexic persons.
I loved her secretly as a you boy growing up! In an era where rock and roll ruled she was one of those voices you simply couldn’t ignore! I sang some of her songs when my friends weren’t around! I like many had no idea of her struggle! It’s sad and a shame she had to live with that pain!
I like these live shows..real singing and not pantomiming..real instruments and not sound machines.. heartfelt music and not the garbage they singing now that disrespects the human race.. peaceful melodies and not that loud crap they do on stage with demonic symbols all over the stages..thank you for posting ❤️
Warrior: so do I! Richard knows what musical harmonies are. He made great arrangements for the Carpenters. Songs, which were good to hear. And Karen made those arrangements much more special with her unique, unmatchable and unforgettable voice. I never heard a voice like hers. And nobody will ever achieve her.
Listen to the first drummer - amazing groove for such mellow songs. They let this drummer really work it, good bass grooves too. Her voice is just stunning, every note and phrase is gorgeous, incomparable, beautiful. Then she gets on the drums and kills them too...
@@rockdrummer4545 I completely agree with you on the overplaying....I noticed it right away and I'm not even 3 minutes into this video...it just doesn't fit the songs at all..."groove" doesn't necessarily go with "mellow" and that's certainly an example here. It's like putting a Chevy Spark engine into a Corvette body, it just doesn't "fit".
"The End of the World" by Skeeter Davies was always one of my favourite fifties songs and thought it couldn't be bettered until I heard Karen 's version.
Her voice is like silk! She could’ve sang the LA Phonebook and it would’ve been magnificent! I wonder if she ever realized her beauty and talent! I could’ve dated her In a heart beat!
This is an incredible live performance all die hard Carpenters fans should watch. Richard always said he was a “backing vocalist” yet he kills it singing lead! He’s way too modest.
@@winterdesert1 Agree but he knew what he had with the little sister - a generational voice, that he could build upon. ALL of the background AND lead voices here are perfectly worked in and around Karen's. She was the center with a LOT of musical sense surrounding it - the Carpenter sound.
Death takes the body. God takes the soul. Our mind holds the memories. Our heart keeps the love. Our faith lets us know, we will meet again. In everlasting love for a wonderful woman.
Thanx to everybody who puts live Carpenters shows on you tube...I had all the records when I was a teenager in the early 70's...but this stuff is.....toooo much....frankm62yroldwhitekid
I really love "Mr Guder", strange that this song did not get as much momentum as many others by them - I think it's one of their finest records. And Karen on drums is such a treat!!
One of the greatest singers of all time. Why, oh why did they drag her out from behind her drums. She was so much happier there. Look at her, she was just so much happier behind the drums and her singing was just as great. And we all know where that lead.
They could have moved the drums closer to the audience and angled. Moving her was like getting billy joel not to play piano. She was rare in this world greatest drummer and singer
They felt she had to be up front They were wrong. No reason at all to take away from her instrument. May I say….an epically bad decision If they had left her alone, maybe she would have been happy enough to have a normal life, with food and other stuff
Karen Carpenter-my favorite female vocalist of all time who, as Herb Alpert also sagely observed, "gets me every time." Richard Carpenter-my favorite arranger, and not only for himself and Karen, but in general, and a fine vocalist in his own right and a business-wise and music-savvy guy who doesn't miss a trick as well. Although Karen is somewhat notorious for underestimating the extent and impact of her own vocal abilities, Richard fully realized them and (thankfully) put them to their very best use in their recordings. It's no accident that John Lennon once stopped by Karen's dinner table to say the obvious to her-that he thought she had an incredible voice-and of course he would know and was oh so RIGHT. If others hadn't noticed, Karen's fine drumming lent her a spot-on sense of precision rhythmic timing that inevitably carried over into her singing, although Rich indisputably has the same gift. Both are consummate musicians and I think we're very lucky to have all the recordings from the two of them which we do. There are all too many strange and tragic ironies in the world of popular musical entertainment-including the all-too-early death of Beach Boy Dennis Wilson who, though the original surfer among the Wilsons, burned himself out and then died via DROWNING-and the comparable all-too-early loss of Karen, who all Carpenters fans would have wished a long and happy life for instead. If the afterlife somehow has internet access: THANK YOU, Karen! And if Richard ever happens across this comment: THANK YOU, Rich! You two and your music hold a treasured place in my heart forever.
Those "oldies" songs they sang in this concert were only about 10 years old at that point. Funny to see this show almost 50 years later, when the songs are now TRULY OLD.

only 2 singers give me the chills. Karen Carpenter and Ann Wilson. There is a lot of pain in the songs. I wished that she reslly knew how much we all loved her
