Boy, Karen never ceases to amaze with her talents, great vocals, and drum playing. I like their interpretation of Help! a somewhat jazzed up version.

It really was remarkable how fast she grew up!!! Once she discovered her talent, there was no holding back!!! She really beams behind her drums!!! Love it!!!! I’m really sorry you left so early. You really deserved so much more!! Thank you Karen for sharing so much with the world!!!

The big deal about her drumming & singing is that even when drumming, she sounds amazing and is still in perfect pitch! Not many can do that.

KC was a very special talent that will be missed forever. She will always be imitated but never duplicated.

Many people thought of her as a singer that could drum, but, she thought of herself as a drummer that could sing. To me she was superb at both. Even after 30 plus years after her departure from earth - she is missed by so many people and her voice will be imitated but never duplicated. RIP KC

They did a great job interpreting Ticket To Ride in this way. Karen sounds amazing. "I think I'm gonna be sad..." She really kills on the sad stuff. So much emotion in her voice.

Unreall live performance, its PERFECT. The harmonies are unreall!!. Love is is Surrender sounds almost like the record. The Carpenters are the best live performing group ive ever heard. I just dont understand why nowadays music cant be so touching and harmony rich as this music, it lacks melody and it doesnt touch your heart as this. CARPENTERS & BEATLES FOREVER!!!

@Vericacious: Think of all Richard is doing: singing harmony (that requires more concentration than singing melody), playing bass, chord accompaniment, tasty fills, counter melodies, awesome jazzy mini-solos, and burning up & down the keyboard, + listening to every single note that every musician in the band and orchestra is playing, and if anyone's out of tune he'll hear about it later. Now *that's* amazing and trust me, that's *way* harder than playing the drums.

Live performance videos are the best! Thanks so much for posting this! Richard doesn't even look at the keyboard while playing much of that solo for "Help;" it's amazing.

With all due respect to those who say that Richard was the brains and talent behind their success, yes he was technically brilliant. But technical brilliance and arrangement skills don't make a star...magic does. Karen was magic, and he would not have succeeded without her. She was all personality, vulnerability and warmth. When he was having drug issues and basically couldn't put two words together on a talk show, Karen spoke eloquently for him. She, in my opinion, is the reason that we talk about this group today, and will continue to study them in the future. And yes, they DO belong in the Rock Hall. Maybe now that a non-rock group like NWA got in, they will too. God knows they deserve it :)

I have to disagree. Both of these individuals complemented each other in a way that we just have not seeing duplicated since. Yes...Richard needed Karen, but Karen also needed Richard. So while Richard could not talk in some interviews do to his problem....and Karen spoke eloquently for him, like a great little sister should for her older brother......Karen unfortunately, for Richard and for her....and for us....was unable to get over hers. Yes you are right, Karen was the magic.....but she was half of the magic.....and the reason why we talk about this group. 100% Richard, 100% Karen. Richard was the reason why Karen was able to give us that amazing voice...and he knew her potential. What kind of big brother does that for his little sister? And Karen herself looked up to Richard because she knew without him, she would not have been where she was. Even though she had her own great talent of singing and playing drums at the same time. BTW....Listen to some of her interviews. Particularly one done in 1978 with Goldman radio...on U-tube. It is one of the clearest interviews on U-tube with just Karen. Sounds like she did it yesterday. If you listen to Richard now...and he does not do interviews anymore...he has nothing but compliments for his sister. I bet you anything on this planet, that Richard would trade any wealth, any possessions to have Karen still be here. None of us know..NONE of us know their personal lives 100%. We just don't. So please...keep enjoying their music....and look at both of them as musical equals and geniuses. And yes....they belong in the Rock Hall. Way..overdue!!

No way. Their recordings were close to perfect. However, their early live performances like this one were excellent.

@TheLarryBrown It's not particularly amazing that she can drum and sing at the same time. Richard insisted that she front the group even though she loved the drums. However, her voice is one of the most amazing instruments ever heard that remains the most amazing thing about Karen Carpenter.

I love how they did this song live -- there is another video of this from a televised concert in Australia that is a bit better -- this one seems a bit rushed... Regardless, I am puzzled as to why when Karen chose to re-record Ticket for their first greatest hits album in 1973 she did not do it this way, with the upbeat ending and vocal florishes she did here (both of which are exactly the same as on the Live in Australia clip)

benjsinister: Ok, she can drum and sing in perfect pitch, but why's that such a big deal? McCartney can play amazing bass and at the same time engage in really amazing singing, scatting, and screaming. Billy Joel can play amazing piano and sing perfectly. Countless singers can sting out amazing guitar leads and sing, so why is it so amazing that someone can drum & sing? It's just unusual to see any drummer singing, so perhaps the novelty is what makes it surprising.

@Vericacious: Whoever told you that playing drums was hard? Any musician that I've ever played with seemed to think that drummers were just one step above cavemen.
