The Carpenters tell Robert Young, from the short lived show "Robert Young with the Young", about the story behind the song "Sometimes". Very Sweet and touching song and a little info about a great song, told and sung by Miss Karen Carpenter and with help from Richard too ;)
Thanx Roadode.com for this video :D LOVE IT!

Karen's voice is truly a one in a million...Once you heard her start to sing, its hard to resist to not to listened.There is something so magical about her voice that only her can do that. and when you heard her singing you can't get enough of her. You'll be wanting more of her voice. I my self can attest to that.

I'm a 40yr old raised on 80s-90s metal music, but I have to give credit where credit is due... Karen had the most powerful voice of the past 3-4 decades. Her style of music isn't my cup of tea, but that voice is hypnotizing... I could listen to her for hours on end and never get tired of hearing Karen... RIP! Such a senseless death!

I remember when I first heard the beginning of this song, I thought it was just an instrumental and skipped it. One day I decided to listen to it and to my surprise Karen was singing and it took me completely by surprise. I remember being memorized by those haunting lows and smooth velvet tones. It was truly a wonderful surprise, it’s certainly one of my favorite songs in the whole collection. I played it 30 times that day. Im glad I have all the original vinyl albums, this song is on the album Carpenters. I recommend that you listen to it on a record player, it’s so mush more natural, haunting and beautiful.. I believe it one of their best albums..

A solitary piano, a humble voice, and simple words are enough to crush your bones and break your heart. I am simply stunned at how devastatingly beautiful this is. And to think that Miley Cyrus is older now than Karen Carpenter was here ... makes me want to jettison out of this world for what it has sadly become. Whatever happened to decency and modesty and purity? Too much liberalism is not all that great... How I wish that young people still comport themselves the way these two did. Is America gone forever?

I have always wished that Karen & Richard would have done a whole album "unplugged", with just Richard's fantastic piano skills & Karen's rich voice. It would have been a classic. I don't know if it's posted, but Richard & Karen doing the "Zodiac Medleys" from "Make Your Own Kind of Music( (various song snippets,1971) is the same deal, and AWESOME.

From the beginning to the end of the song, her voice sounded rich, ptich perfect, sweet to the ears, heart touching, and she sings from the heart and touches the heart of those who hear it. There won't be another Karen who could sing like this. SO BEATIFUL.

@TheLarryBrown
@TheLarryBrown Год назад
@@cimarronhopper4605 Not quite so fast. While it is true that unique and great singers are few, it's also true that arrangers, and pianists, of Richard's caliber are also few. American Idol has showed is how many aspiring singers you need to audition to find just a few good ones. A singer has a way to touch our emotions in a way that no musical instrument ever can. But consider this: Richard made this song his own, and he outdid big shot and song composer Henry Mancini in doing so. Not on this video, but on the record, Richard's rhythm on the melody is more straight forward and gives it a different and more effective feel than does Mancini's more bouncy treatment of the rhythm. Richard's talent turned this song from something "nice" to something "spectacular," and that was a big accomplishment and only Richard could do that, Mancini couldn't. As great as Karen is, she doesn't arrange music, she doesn't write music, and she doesn't play piano. Without Richard's amazing talent and artistic vision this song would not have been effective like it is, and the same goes for "Close to you." Richard's arrangements succeed whereas the ones from Hollywood bigshots Mancini and Bacharach don't. No matter how much you appreciate a singer, that is impressive.

This song is so perfect for Karen and Richard too, who gets to shine on grand piano. His brilliant arrangements were so often often overshadowed by the superstardom of his phenomenal sister. The best female singer of all time? This does an injustice to the dozens of favorites I have. I would not set one above the other pr bore you by naming them all. Much better to simply describe her as 'one of the best'. She sure was special.
