I think it's because if she does have interest in someone else and he's gone for YEARS the chance of her potentially cheating with her yearned for love interest increases and he doesn't want that scandal attached to his name, I suppose... He doesn't want a wife that will stray or have the DESIRE to stray.... I thought that was pretty obvious tbh.

THIS. This is what I've been pointing out too. If he's so practical about his match that he's really just considering a wife to be a steward to his holdings while he's away, why would he care if she is in love with someone else? If he'd married Cressida, who ISN'T in love with anyone else, the possibility still exists that she would stray a year or two into his journey. But in my re-watches, I realized that Debling was very much the one chasing Penelope, not the other way around. He may not be in love with Penelope, but I think it's safe to say he liked her, and his rejection wasn't out of practicality, as he claimed, but because he felt a bit of a sting that Pen would rather be with a man who doesn't even know what he wants to a man who had made his intentions clear from the beginning. Colin, as we know from BOTH marriage proposals he has made on this show, is somewhat impulsive, so his word is a little harder to trust than Debling's. But Colin is who she wants because that's where the passion is.

Unfortunately we have to think like this society, and no one wants suspicions to arise around heirs and inheritances.

Courting comes with the intention of marriage, which he has been actively avoiding for 3 seasons now, and continues to do so even with her. Even so, he's still going all the way to bring flowers to her home - distributing a behavior that his character has yet to display. So hence the "whipped" comment. Also, it's just a joke lol

​@@everybodylovesrae_ uh oh Hate to break it to you but I don't think this will lead to where you think it will bc Ben is emotionally unavailable and only courting Lady Tilley bc she is emotionally unavailable as well. You can court anyone without the intention to marry. Also, people aren't going to like what you say bc Benedict's endgame is Sophie and she is everyone's favourite book character in the Bridgerton series 😅 People are impatiently waiting for her arrival. 🤗

Sorry, for the confusion.x As for courting, remember in S01 Anthony tells his mother that the Duke is not serious about Daphne just bc he's publicly courting her? You can go all out with courting, pull out all the big guns and it still doesn't mean the guy's intention is to marry - mostly in a case like this - it's to have sex. That's why Lady Tilley says 'I don't need to be called upon' bc she knows what Ben really wants. 👀

they give her costumes that make her look bigger than she is. the ways her dresses and such are cut are made to make her look bigger on purpose.

@@starchannel123she actually literally is not. She’s just short and has rounder features and a different body type. She’s a UK size 10, which is not overweight even for someone who’s only five feet tall.
