The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an enchanting yearly variety show that ran for half a century. Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.
The telethon was created to help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which is leading the fight against muscular dystrophy. MDA dedicates itself to strength, independence and life. To learn more about MDA and to donate, please visit www.MDA.org.

It's 1994, there's no reason for the quality to be bad unless: A. The device used to record the footage was a cheap home movie camera or something (which the MDA Telethon obviously wouldn't use.) B. The video was heavily compressed before being uploaded to RU-vid (which this wasn't.) Having said that though, the quality doesn't look *that* good. It looks alright. I'm sure there's a higher-quality version of the footage stored somewhere.

This set is overall super audience-conscious with respect and support for a disabled audience. Shock moments are critical of device design and highlighting the need for a car, heightening the need to be careful when getting gas. I have negative reactions to the OJ joke, the toilet seat, and the disembodied arm but overall I think he's not so bad of a guy, just not everyone likes fast short jokes collaged like that. Being able to pause the video and think about it more makes this set better.

I have seen most of those prop jokes that he recycled & reused over & over again in other appearances. Those same props are being over used several times throughout several different videos on You Tube here.

Yes, all comedians repeat jokes. It takes time to break in a joke, so once a joke works it becomes part of their regular act. There's not one comedian who doesn't do this.

In 2018 we have RU-vid to rewatch every skit, but you used to tour across country doing the same act for years and no one would notice. It seems different now that we have social media, but comedians have always brought back old acts for laughs.

Yes. I remember as a kid in the 70s and 80s how the Labor Day Telethon was a big deal. All 3 channels had it on and 3 channels was all we had. It also meant the end of summer and school was about a week away.

I think what kills the moment sometimes is that he’ll follow up with more comments after the prop gets some laughs. If I were him I’d stop talking after I got some applause and laughter then on to the next prop.
