Just now seeing this 4 years later.. but it’s great intel.. ty for making this. I think for the straps I’ll just add some clear vinyl strips in this section… but then again.. it is a Subaru. (I love that quote).
Thanks for the video. I have a 2018 touring as well. Trying to gather was much info as I can as I am just buying my first watercraft. I saw two other solutions for the front tie downs that may help. 1. Running rope around the hood hinges and coming out the top of the hood, 2. using the hood loops like the Yak gear EZ loops. Put one at the front of your hood.
Thanks! I have carried mine on an old 97 Outback for years and life was great, but.. just bought a new BMW X3 and like your new Subie, there are no lashing points available. Grrrr.. Great tips throughout your video.
Was wondering what the straps rubbing on the hood was going to do, thanks for showing us. Particularly like the post about using felt fabric. Thanks to all.
The canoe in the video is ~17'. A shorter or longer boat would work just fine too - as long as the center of the boat is situated midway between the crossbars.
I think your issues laying flat would be resolved if you moved them forwards a bit. Look how the curve in the top cup would match the curve in the top of the bars.
@@nzmtns I was going to buy these but your video gave me pause. Other people think they're OK though and I had to research your close up shots, and I think that'll do it! It'll just look weird because the shaft will be really close to the trailing edge of the bar, but I think that'll do it
So lame they didn't account for the aero bars and you have to modify a $130 system... I think I'm gonna just go with the $70 Thule load stops and put a peice of rubber between the gunwales and the bars.
