Fantastic Interview!!! A lost art for the interviewer to ask a probing question, then remain silent listening to the answer. Most interviewers seem to forget the listener wants to hear the answer uninterrupted. I tip my hat to you Sir. Continued Success Cruzer In Ct

Just about the highest compliment I can give someone in our hobby is that they are good *stewards* . Jay Leno may just be the best example of being a good *steward* for this generation. What is a *steward* within this context? Think of it as the exact opposite of the "I do what I want, don't care how rare it is" types and the "I'll be dead, who cares?" sorts. The good *steward* takes the best care of the car(s) that he can; he shares it/them with others and is happy to gather and share the *story* (the history) of the car with others in the pursuit of that. Finally, a good *steward* does his best to see that the car, its' story (with his own now added!) and what it represents to the hobby be passed along to the next proper *steward* , so that it may be shared with the next generation to come. We've seen those born around the turn of the 20th century build up the hobby with their *stewardship* of pre-WW2 cars; likewise, "The Greatest Generation" came along after and did the same with post-war cars, too. As a result, both are strong cornerstones of the old car hobby to this day; that's the result of great *stewardship* . We witness the same efforts these days with cars of the 60's, the "muscle car era", etc. as well. All that said, Jay covers *ALL* of those eras with his interests, his *stewardship* - and all who are in the hobby now, as well as generations to come, will either directly or indirectly benefit from such efforts. There will be a huge pair of shoes to fill one day when he's no longer a *steward* . - Ed on the Ridge

Honestly the best move possible, if you have that cash flow and the opportunity to reward a family who took good care of such a vehicle deserves that amount id try and do the same if possible

He didn't pay anything for the '59 Sprite though. Could have given them 10 or 15K, he paid 25K for his McLaren's airconditioning.

@@KidMillions I do agree on that end, but If I had a nice old vehicle worth its weight in salt I might give it to jay just for the fact that it'll get the love and attention a certain person couldn't do. But I'd still throw the family some Dinero just for the fact that they saved a piece of history, as an example my step father has a ton of older VW bugs and trucks worth restoring and he has all the knowledge to do so, but he still let's them sit luckily in AZ, but still there's only so much time they have before they are just beyond repair im trying, but my words fall on deaf ears

Mr. Leno , you are an amazing living tribute to all working people worldwide not just Americans. Your statement that men and women who actually do things with their hands really hits home inside. For many years, I worked building office furniture in office buildings and was always impressed with the people who kept those buildings clean and operating but were are always looked down upon by those who sit at keyboards in those buildings. It is the immense physical effort and mental strength to do the same job every day that keeps America moving. Your incredible collection of history which you call cars needs to keep being seen long after you have gone onto the big garage in the sky. You already know this. I dont know how you can do this. I am already guessing that you have a substantial pay to see car museum that generates some form of revenue to keep your astonishing car collection maintained. I have a twenty year old Honda Accord 2 door coupe that keeps me busy. Just dusting your cars daily is a four people eight hour a day job. Jay Leno Cars is an industry in its own. I just wanted to say the massive respect I have for you and those who work with you. Like you, my wife and I are getting up in years and with that comes the inevitable slowdown in ability. You are fighting that well and I commend you for that. Please stay well and have many more years of cars, history, great people and spreading the love of honest hard work and honest hard working people. Thank you , Mr. Leno.

True Story of a Ford V8: My grandfather bought his first car aged 14 in 1939, a 1937 Ford V8. When the Germans Attacked us in April 1940, he hid the car to prevent it from being taken by the Wehrmacht. He joined the Norwegian resistance in 1944 aged 18, and together with his wife to be, and a major in the resistance army, they blew up a ferry nearing completion, his grandfather, my great great grandfather, was forced to build for the German war effort, at his shipyard. V-Day May 8th he had his Ford V8 pulled out from hiding and it led the victory parade where he drove wearing his Norwegian Armed forces uniform publicly for the first time ever. My great great grandfather didn’t have any boys, but three girls, and my grandfather was the first born boy of the three daughters. He therefore inherited the shipyard when the old man passed away in 1951. My father, born in 1952, inherited the shipyard after him, but unfortunately didn’t inherit my grandfathers love of cars, of which he had many stately cars over the years. When I was aged 14, my grandfather taught me to drive in his Volvo 760 Turbo, in which we hurled down power sliding it along the dirt airstrip, created by the Germans, at our home town. My grandfather grinning from ear to ear, with me behind the wheel, tearing up the dirt track while he clutched onto his six pence grabbing the roof handle bar to try stay in the Volvo’s seat, us doing double the national speed limit on dirt and snow. The last drive we had together was the same route as in the Volvo, but in my 964 Carrera Cabriolet back in 2016. Even then, I put a smile on him aged 92, when pushing the Carrera listening to the roar of the cup exhaust down memory lane. He passed in 2018❤️ Cars and Culture and History Jay Leno!❤️

I'm one of very very few of my friends who still holds onto their first car. As much for sentiment as it is for the love of the car... It sat broken in my shed for nearly a decade and I recently finally had the motor rebuilt, stock or near to. Since then my father unexpectedly passed away, who loved this particular brand of car and it has made the thing soooo much more special and significant. I'll never sell it. Yeah most people wouldn't long for the model but to me it's an priceless gem and I cannot wait to one day finish the restoration in honour of my father. Everytime I drive it, I smile and I have the most vivid memories of dad and the day I got it home for the first time. It's entirely irreplaceable. Not particularly valuable to anyone but me. That's what cars can be about. Jay is one of the only wealthy car collectors who understands and appreciates the stories attached to a car and how that can be it's entire value. Amazing custodian.

Forgot to mention, for anyone who's interested and read the story and can empathize, it's a 1990 BMW 325i Coupe (E30). Still needs paint and body work and some minor trim work inside but one day, when I can finally save enough to do it, it will be immaculate condition. I hope to own it for the remainder of my life and will hopefully be able to pass it onto to someone with the same passion for it as I have.

Jay is very unique. Rich, great guy, not out to screw anyone on price as in that Ferrari story, Drives the cars, loves to meet people on the street and has had some of them with unique vehicles on the Garage show, seems like he'd talk to anyone, Took someone's Dad out in a Duesenberg that brought back memories, restored some ladies Hudson that was full of memories for her and took her out for a drive in it. What fun all that would be too. Live long and prosper Jay :) I saw another episode of someone who had lots of expensive cars but had them all sitting behind ropes in some big finished warehouse-Maybe haul one out to Pebble on occasion. "Oh, here are the Rolls Royces" and there's 19 or something of them and I just found that setup to be very unimpressive. A person buys a car and puts in a warehouse and there's no connection, they don't drive it and if there is a story they probably don't know what it is.

My grandparents lived on a 80 acre farm in the central valley in California. There was an 110' long dairy barn that was about 100 year's old. Inside the barn was my grandma's 1964.5 Mustang and my grandpa's Cessa 140 airplane. He sold them to a man that worked for an aeronautical company in Southern California and was going restore them. That was about ten years ago.

"Barn finds" What farmers have is plenty of storage. So in their young days, good years they save up for something special. Buy it and drive it around for a while. At some point, they get a family and a deep commitment to the farm. The cars a bit old and impractical, starts getting a bit worn out, but they love it and can't part with it. Solution, get a "boring" car and shove the old one in an out of the way shed in a corner. Possibly with ideas of doing it up themselves one day. 50 years later, they've passed away and the family has no attachment themselves to the car and figure they can get a good price for it.

I lost all respect for DeLorean when the story came out about him swindling the guy who invented the 'lossless coolant system". The guy was a trucker, came up with a transformative idea (the radiator overflow tank all cars now have) and John ripped him off. Just unforgivable... (Netflix - DeLorean / Myth and Mogul ) Everyone of Jay's stories about how he treats other people is the exact opposite of John DeLorean, kudos to Jay's parents for bringing him up proper!
