@@RogueCowTurd well it depends on which generation of supra you are referring to. Huge "VW only" guy here and I just want to explain my take on why I've developed such an affinity for them over the years and why now VW is my first choice. Basically after years of owning dozens of cars of various makes and models, I would buy something like a Honda Civic or Subaru and realize the daily driving experience was not what I wanted in terms of driving comfort and build quality. Then I would buy something nicer as a daily driver and realize it was boring and dull. I was stuck in that cycle of compromises and never being satisfied until I ended up getting a MK4 Jetta GLI, which was in my price range of what I usually spent on cars. I realized almost immediately it was the perfect balance of what I was looking for all along. Nothing up to that point felt as solid and quality yet fun and engaging in that price range up to that point. I was finally satisfied. Well, a few years down the road when it was time to upgrade I looked at newer cars and went through the same thing again of trying to find the right balance and landed on a MK5 GTI. Which again, I realized was ALSO the perfect balance. Where fun sport cars would compromise on comfort and quality and others sacrificed any sort of enjoyment for comfort and quality, Volkswagen always seemed to be a perfect balance right in the middle for it's price range. They kind of do it all. Now I have a MK6 GTI and every car I've tried in it's price range and category just doesn't compare in my eyes.

I agree with the premise that STI's make very little power per dollar, BUT up until 2010 when the Camaro SS came out, it was lighter than American v8's and had more power plus they were all wheel drive. for many years they were fantastic cars that were better than cars that where up to 20 grand more. The problem is that Subaru is a small company and stopped improving the STI after 2007 and tuning has advanced and we've discovered many new and better platforms for power.
Correction: "but, after the Camaro/Trans Am died in 2002, and ignoring the Cobra/Mach One, until the Camaro SS came out in 2010 the STI made more-ish power than American V8s"... Seriously, the STI spent that whole time at around 270-290 HP, while the Mustang GT went from 260 to 300, and the Charger R/T brought 340. The old Camaro Z28/Ws6 Trans Am had 315. All of those RWD V8s were slower 0-60, but they had higher trap speeds at the quarter mile, and posted similar times.
one huge benefit the sr20det had over ka24det was mpg. when I had mine at 250whp I was still getting mid 20's mpg intown, 28+ highway. As a daily driver the s13/sr20 was just a beautiful setup.. I got rid of mine way back and regret it ALL the damn time as I'd have to spend 15-20k to get an equivalent build. I disagree with it being overhyped in that it (pre drifting era) was extremely cheap (I bought my 2 s13's at 3400 and 2800 with no motor), was a great platform to learn to drive, learn to wrench on a car, and you could customize EVERYTHING. In that view, the car is well worth the hype. Performance wise, especially in today's market...it is extremely over-inflated. For cost of a 240sx you can buy c4/c5 with only 60k miles..
Why isn’t the E46 M3 on here? I’ve been in a couple they go round corners pretty well but have no power unless you drive the wheels off the thing, the interior is pretty bland and when you drive it on rough-ish roads it’s like being inside a paint shaker
Because the driving experience and intake sound makes up for the bland interior. Btw, the ride is actully fine, if you keep it stock. The problem is that people often buy hugely expensive coilovers and don't bother fine tunning them.
One of my favourite RU-vidrs said about the Supra that: "the only good thing about the car, is the fucking engine". This is why I love the new one. The engine is really good, but it god a lot more merits than just an indestructible engine

But to be real like I blew up the engine in my WRX and I knew it was gonna happen but my first car was a non-turbo impreza and in rural Alberta, driving situations can get fucky really quickly and I think their AWD system has honestly saved my life or at least my car in multiple situations. I'm not overstating it, I know their limits, but I've pushed them many times and the worst thing I ever had to do was fix a tie rod and get a couple alignments here and there. This 2005 impreza was driven by two teenagers (my sister and I), taught multiple friends here and there how to drive stick, hit two deer, hit a goose that exploded the windshield while my sister was driving to school, climbed out of multiple ditches over the years, including one time when my sister rotated her own tires and she lowkey lost a couple lug nuts, i've also lost multiple lug nuts, and man after four years of teenage angst, my sister went off to university and my dad used this 2005 non-turbo impreza as a farm vehicle. Idk, just the fact that a car that I never really thought I was gonna love, could mean so much to myself and the people close to me, I mean, my entire family calls her by her name, my girlfriend calls her by her name, hell, even my girlfriend's family calls her by her name, because I would always talk about her and their dog would even bark when they could hear my shitty ass exhaust farting down the highway, their dog literally knew i was coming by the sound of that car. thats why i love subarus, thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

The dude that said Ferrari F40 is entitled to an opinion... BUT, as an 80s kid, that is probably the top of the heap for me. That car is the epitome of a driver's car. Raw, visceral, almost nothing unnecessary.
as a guy who’s only owned post 2000’s vw’/audi’s (1999 to 2005) the 1.8t is just a fun engine, with minimal modification you can put down 240-260hp in a 2800lb hatch or sedan and it’s really just a blast. i personally enjoy the styling of this era in VW/Audi, especially the B5/MK4 platforms. it’s mainly about the culture. it’s a very laid back community from what i’ve seen from the VW guys who own these cars. the B5 S4 community is a different story😂. but as of now i have a 2.7t swapped b6 s4 and the interior holds up beautifully, and the styling i do really enjoy with the wider angrier flares and front end (yes i know the rear is a hot take but i enjoy it) and the Quattro system paired with the OA3 transmission snd the 2.7t is just a riot. With a stage 2 tune you break 300’s and with ko4’s you sit comfortably at mid to high 400’s depending on fuel choice. its something to experience in all of it’s facets, more than just the vehicle. going to a massive meet for the first time and seeing all of these swapped and built early 2000’s VW’s and Audi’s and all of the owners being down to earth and willing to talk and share what they know just made me feel accepted even before i had gotten into it. everyone has their opinions though i and i do respect them. have a good day y’all🤟🏼
The GT-R and Supra deserve some of the hype, but people, especially clout car guys, overhype them way too much. Yes, their engines are refined and can handle a large amount of tuning, but that's not the only thing note worthy about these cars.
Unpopular opinion, I think the hype around the Supra and Skyline are based more of Gran Turismo and Forza. For several installments those were the best cars in the games along with the RX-7
No matter how much I try. I just can’t see the R35 as a “GTR” It’s just a suped up Z car. It’s like a boosted, properly made 350/370. The fact that it never came in manual, it looks like a Z car, cost 100k and was sold mostly on hype, and have almost died out says it all. I’m sure it’s pretty great, but I could never see it as a skyline.
The problem with asking people what they think is over rated is that most of the people will just put cars they have never driven, where underrated cars come from more of actual owners/drivers
It’s kinda weird how skylines and Supras have spiked in price because 12 years old hype them up, but they’re not even old enough to drive let alone be able to afford a car in the first place.
