7:20 Just like the USA or CANADA, Colombia consist of various races. Just like you can't say someone looks Canadian, you can't say someone looks "Colombian". Colombia is 40% White (European/Arab), 50% Mestizo (White mixed with native/indigenous) and 10% Black (African). Also, the Spanish spoken in Colombia various from region to region. The main differences are very pronounced accents from one area to the other...just like New York English vs. Mississippi/Southern English. Also, 10:11 Colombians are honest, warm and very friendly (they love the USA). I'm not surprised a Colombian helped you with your misplaced wallet.

Really fun and funny to watch your first impressions of Cartagena Dan, a place that is very special to my wife and I. I've been more than 15 times, including our honeymoon. Costeños are the best - my wife is barranquillera ... jaja. I too have "met" those two "you are the boss" guys and have twice dropped/forgotten my wallet and had it returned. Un abrazo from a fellow canadiense. Looking forward to your next videos!

Oh yeah ... quick story you might like. We went to Isla Blanca (just off Cartagena) on a day trip. Super hot while waiting in line for lunch, I spotted a couple guys with a cooler of beer. Of course I walked up to them and said "una cerveza por favor". They looked at me a bit funny for a sec, but opened up the cooler and handed me one ("una fria"). I said "gracias ... que cuesta?" They said nada. Took me a second to clue in that these were just a couple guys with their family and a cooler of beer on the SAME day trip as me. Que pena! They are probably still laughing and telling the story of the clueless and thirsty gringo!

13:41 You mention "sales hustlers" but then you filmed/promoted those "rappers" who are also hustlers. Just like tourist, Colombians (locals) also HATE/dislike those hustlers. Many take a bus from the poorer areas and try to make a living but some are way too annoying. The trick is to NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT, KEEP WALKING and say NO GRACIAS. Btw, 15:02 you're so sweet!!! Enjoyed your camera view of your tourist visit, cool how you are flexible in weaving in and out of places and people's lives when you are invited into theirs. Respectful and observant of the historical buildings and people's culture when visiting countries their towns, big cities, and neighborhoods, including beaches. Fun watching the beach scene and family, very spontaneous approach to filming, well organized footage. Happy travels. Me gusto el video de su visita en este paiz y pueblo, su compartmento sobre la gente durante de la visita, y su moda de flexible durante oportunidades que pasan en la vida carera como turista Dan. Hi Dan. Another great video that brings back memories. I was in Cartagena in 2017. While I'm soon making my third visit to both Medellin and Bogota and my second to Popayan for me one visit to Cartagena was sufficient. It's very beautiful. It's also much too hot for me. Also the heavy-handed tourism and hustlers that you mentioned are a turn-off. I didn't really experience that in other parts of Colombia. But for a one time visit it was fine.

Hispanic have many mixes. Black influence is heavy as well. In most countries, their heritage is actually protected by the government and as citizens, we share the heritage while they also don’t forget, they are FROM that country years and years apart. In Honduras, we protect our Gatifunas we everything. Just like we have heavy white people, and heavy indigenous people. Believe it or not we also have Arabs, there was a huge migration of Arabs and now they’re mixed with us. One of the most luxurious country and party clubs in the country is actually Arab-owned too. This is why Hispanics are warm and welcoming to foreigners, we are a mix ourselves and we’re proud of our blood so we invite people to that culture when they visit. Can’t wait to go to Colombia, 2 more months and I’ll be there with my husband and friends❤

When I was in Cartagena I found it extremally hard to make friends and wasn't invited into any groups, but then again I went during very strange times a year and a half ago when much was closed and there was probably more poverty than the already somewhat impoverished state they normally are there. Something tells me I should give the town another chance but I don't know if I will or not.

Although visiting the beaches are nice ( especially the Rosario Islands) I prefer inland Colombia and its many attractions. If someone were to ask me where to go in Colombia if they were visiting for the first time, it wouldn't be the coast.

Honestly, Cartagena is not a highly recommended city. We cannot deny its beauty and history, but it has become a nest of theft and abuse of tourists. It is a very poverty-stricken city, so on the street it is normal to find people selling any kind of thing or offering shows like rap, but the people there are so daring that they dare to charge absurdly high prices for super common things like bathing suits or even bottles of water, the nerve of the people is so great that even the famous "Palenqueras" can charge you $11 dollars for a simple photo, for foreigners it may be nothing, but for locals that is too much money, even national tourists are no longer going to Cartagena because of all these abuses. An example was a case of a man who was charged $11 dollars for 3 bottles of water on a beach, when one of those bottles is usually not more than $0.50 cents. If you go please with great caution, and do not accept or buy anything on the street, better everything in a hotel or a shopping center

I agree with some of what you said. I think it's ok to purchase refreshments from vendors just don't over pay. When I was in Cartagena the only thing I would buy were bottled water, lemonade & beer because the heat you need to keep hydrated

Nothing about the scams, street vendors? The reality of Cartagena is so filtered here would take too freaking long.

I specifically talk about pushy salespeople following tourists in this video. And my next one in Santa Martha mentions it even more. Not sure what filtering you’re talking about
