"He's really positive, everybody else feels that strength and feels like there's a captain that is worth following. I'd say that on stage Carter is absolutely the captain, it's really unbelievable to watch him play. I've never seen a drummer just move a crowd, because they don't believe what they are seeing because it's so unbelievable, and in the middle of all that he'll blow a bubble." - Dave Matthews
Such a musical solo, I think is rare these days. Nowadays it's all about about speed and how much double bass you can put into it, but Carter's solo you can actually feel the melody in, love this dude.
To be honest though, when he isn't pushed to land on the 1, like he is when the band play along side him in this break, he loses a lot of musicality and seems to *sometimes* just focus on throwing as many singles he can around the place. Love the guy, love his grooves and fills, but his solos aren't always the best
Thepeacemaker6342 yeah I get what your saying, I guess it just depends on how’s he’s feeling or something. Sometimes you just want to chop it up and sometimes you want some nuance.
@@badfozziebear446 , Vinnie is a legendary drummer. But Carter surpasses him in the Hi-Hat dept. He's infamous for his incredibly smooth yet very technical Hi-Hat rhythms.
I was always a hard rock metal dude. In 1995, I dated a girl that wanted to see them. I had no idea who they were. She mentioned the Satellite song. I was like "geez"!.....I was taken aback by the show and the musicianship. I was in awe and shocked by Carter. All I could think is this drummer is unreal and he very tastefully soloed through every song. It was like 5 percussionists playing at once....John Popper came out at one point. The place went into meltdown mode. What a great show!
That was one of the strangest most beautiful solos I've heard in a long time. I have two Dave Matthews CD's and they are an awesome eclectic mixture of cultures. God Bless the renaissance.
The drums are my favourite instrument, no doubt. After listening to many different worldclass drummers all I can say is that Carter never overplays, that he has insane feeling for groove and time.If there is no "best" drummer he's the one who's the closest to completion. He can play any style...lately he uses a lot of double bass...showing that he's got it metal-style ;-) I've seen him live 3 times (they are not that often in germany) never saw anything more stunning! And he's still getting better
This guy is one of the drumming GOATS of the industry. The groovy, funky rhythms and fills with the rock/metal influence along with the trap beats on his hats were so beautifully executed and well combined. Nothing overblew, except the gum he's been blowing bubbles through all night.
Carter Beauford is by far my favorite drummer of all time and DMB is definitely one of my favorite bands. He is such an influential drummer with a unique style, yet plays even the most complicated beats seemingly effortlessly.
I saw these guys in Sacramento in 97, 00, and 03. I have been playing drums off and on for 25 years. Yes Vinnie, Dave, Dennis, Neil, Stuart even Grappa have their place in history and each has their own flavor. But, no one will bring me to tears like Carter. He is truly one of a kind.
Just my opinion, for what it's worth. I find Carter to be the best drummer I've ever heard. He plays technically great, but more importantly he plays drums to compliment the music, and he never messes up (that I've seen, and I've seen them live many times). Carter is a living musical metronome bridging the gap between a drum machine and pure heart with genious grooves!. Jam away Carter JAM AWAY!!
yep, you're all right...this is one of the best drum solos i've ever seen...it's dripping in soul and love...even has it's own melody to it in a way. and hey, you can all be this good at something...just try and focus on one thing for 20 years or so and boom...you'll be just as good. we all become masters of nothing because we try and achieve too much too young. work on one thing at a time and what you do achieve in your lifetime you will be a master at. These great artists and musicians are not special...they are human but they differ from us due to their ability to focus...we are all capable of great things...never EVER stop believing in this...you are all Carter Beaufords just waiting to happen... x
Just got home from DMBs show tonight! Those boys still out on a crazy show and I had to relive my memories of the first time seeing this video in high school!
thats the kind of drummer I want to be like. Ive been playing 10 years and im still blown away by him. This guy just dosent keep the beat, he is playing music. Incredible
Also, the fact that at every show it’s never the exact same drum solo, causing him to also be one of the last original live performing drummers, don’t know what I’d do if I seriously never found DMB and Carter. They were there through my toughest of times
Probably my favorite all time...He plays music more than he plays drums...Really fits and fills out the music. It's all so clean and well controlled! I love it!
its good to see you can understand that. carter meshes so many different types of srumming styles into his own style. he is a drum genious to say the least.
Call me old if you like but I have seen a fair few drummers in my time and, to me, CB is a genius and quite simply the most rhythmic drummer I have ever seen. Undoubtedly, The Best of What's Around! Come back to London!!!
A complete master! He perfected being left handed on a right handed set up! I’m a leftie and had to leave a lot of drum classes as a kid due to kits being set up for right handers! Seen Carter live and he’s by far in the same class as the greats!
@@anthonyvenedicto518 so true, I’ve only noticed that in my later years…I am left handed and right footed! Phil Collins, who was my first experience as a ten yr old…and Copeland from the Police where my go to’s. But I’ve not seen more than 10!
i love the way DMB jams with every part of their band, everyone gets their own spot to show how good they really are, and i just love that rythm being kept in the background while carter blows our fucking minds.
Man!! Dave Matthews Band without Carter, would've been a regional success at best instead of world touring 50X platinum selling recording and live performing musicians that they are. Amazing talent, one of the best drummers in the world.
Thanks for posting. Brings back memories. Certainly one of the more well-rounded drummers alive today. Reminds me of Stewart Copeland with his ability to construct a well thought-out solo. The bubble gum is classic!
I love the caption!!! This looks like it was off the "Everyday" tour. I've seen them at least 70 times...it never gets old. You really NEVER KNOW what you are gonna get at a DMB show. Especially these days.
all the music you hear on the radio and in CD's is "real music." carter beauford is one of the greatest drummers to ever touch drum sticks. just because your brain isn't smart enough to feel jazz or blues doesn't mean it isn't "real"
Carter is one of the top drummers alive, and in my (and many other DMB fans') opinion, is the heart and soul of DMB. Without Carter they wouldn't be where they are today.
