Yeah, WAY before I knew anything about watches, I bought that solid gold Tank Louis quartz w/ date! Ughhh! I bought it grey market so I didn’t get hurt. I now have an extensive collection that includes some sought-after auto pieces, and I have been able to reconsider my tank. For one, NO one knows it is a quartz (no seconds), the date window (yuck) is so tiny that you can barely see it, it has a solid gold back, and it has THE most beautiful alligator strap that they make - the honey gold one w/ the solid gold buckle. The battery lasts for YEARS and it stays dead on. So, in comparison to my Rolex’s and my other examples of haute horology, it falls short; however all things considered, & if bought right, it really is worthy of consideration. You may want to reconsider as I have.
I think the only men's cartier tank worth purchasing atm (besides vintage of course) is the Cartier de Santos because it is auto instead of quartz, the quality is impeccable (I would even go as far as to compare it to the Royal Oak!) And it's a great daily watch
@@georgemachine328 I know this is 2 months old, but the reason I prefer the tanks despite the laziness of their movement and marketing, is the size. I really like that tank style 20.5-25mm case as a small wristed man with a love of right angles. In comparison the Santos is huge.
Hi George, I agree about the Santos but the movement is not accurate enough and at £5350 (for the medium) it cannot compete with Datejust. I'm hoping that it'll depreciate heavily and I can pick one up in a year.
Quick question. You said your favorite tank is the skeleton but you also said a large size tank is way too big. But skeleton tank is indeed large size? Do you still like it even though is way too big?
Good video. Much appreciated. It seems like you are now the most consistent content presenter in the RU-vid watch space. Many others seem to be struggling with consistency. Cheers, Ken
Cartier is unique, but unfortunately not my taste. Wwished you 'd talk some more on JLC, that for me is a brand with an awesome movement history and recently (70 years) also watches. But look at what movements PP, VC and AP have used throughout their entire history? Indeed, JLC! To me that brand is the real unhidden treasure.
Spot on with the Cartier rant. My all time grail is a basculante with the hand winding ultra thin 2.1mm piguet movement. There is no other 3 hand dress watch with that much presence. Period.
Does anyone not remember that Seiko makes enamel and urushi dialed dress pieces for the Japanese market? And at ultra affordable relative prices at that?
I am happy to see you give weekend content as well now. To me you are currently the most interest watch channel to see and the channel I look most forward to over all my RU-vid subscriptions (watch and non-watch related). Now a side note, your opinion for a top end watch for a female to wear, Cartier (whatever type) vs Rolex OP 36mm (whatver color)?
Bravo!!!!! Christan!!!!! "I don't wind my Cartier" Andy Warhol.... Bravo!!! LOL Yes ICONIC design WORLD WIDE, and cross generational recognition.... Tank Solo rocked by the most famous people in the last 75 years. Recognizable as much as Rolex.... and just on one design Tank Solo. Yes $8k is too much for a Quartz...
Spot on the classic Cartier Tank as to size and wtf with date window and quartz. Andy W had it right, same with Jackie O. Talk about eye candy. Go vintage with Cartier, of course price is the obstacle. I got burned on one of their early quartz (purchased new), circuit went out in three years.
The Polerouter is still under $2k in 2023. Yes Genta designed it, but he also designed the Omega Constellation and that can still be had for even less. They're just not hype watches, that's why the prices are normal.
So it’s ok for a Rolex to have a day on the 3 o’clock but not a Cartier.? Btw, the quartz is a water resistant watch, are the manuals or automatics? Just saying
I think the Seiko Presage (both pre- and post-Presage branding on the dial) are a great value at gray market and pre-owned prices. Get one at around $500 USD and give it a little love with a Cape Cod polishing cloth and you have yourself a real steal!
Great video and content! Still loving the 1601 linen dial you sold me earlier this year. It would be great to see your thoughts on the Cartier's other accessible line-ups..... Ronde Solo is one, gifted to me and I love it on the bracelet and its an automatic movement. Also include a vid on your thoughts on the re-release of the Cartier Panthere. Keep up the great work!
@@trevbarlow9719 No. There are those who fancy themselves watch "purists" (pretentious assholes really) who insist that classy dress watches have a plain dial and not be "spoiled" by "ugly" date windows (you can barely see).
Did you take that little girl's watch? Shame on you! Also belong to the blue dial date just club...but the dial really pops on a tt model with gold indices.
Please do a video discussing Citizen women watches as a whole. I feel they make some of the best watches for women and with their own designs and not the female version of a man's watch. So far I bought my wife 2 Citizen watches (along with some MK watches) and the Citizen watches are simply amazing.
And what the hell! If they're going to have a date window on them why are they not even attempting to do what would really be worth the while and make the date numerals in Roman style instead of the simpleton's Arabic! What would be cooler than a tourbillon or world timer, and even moon phase, that's it, nicht wahr?
@@throwingdartsandbreakinghearts It's called free speech, Marxist asshole! You don't get to tell people to "Shut the fuck up...." and call them "bible thumper" because they don't want to hear profanity.
