Anyone in the UK/RHD take out the stereo and if you have the flat panel display there's a double din gap behind, route the cables from the glovebox to the stereo space and leave the box behind there. If I'd have known would've made this job 20 mins rather than 2 hours. No space behind glovebox in the RHD as fusebox in way as others have mentioned. Cable tie or tape the box in so it doesn't move about, also all the cables for the new box needs to go up towards the airbag and then over and down to the stereo space. don't try and run it through the tempting looking hole at the side as it'll stop the cd part from sliding back. I found jamming all the excess in the same space at the top was fine with a bit of messing about.
@@LiquidityRL This wasn't my vehicle however, maybe I could help, what part are you getting stuck at? this video covers most of the process except in addition you need to remove the stereo and route the cables into the space behind. I would like to point out again, please check behind the stereo to ensure there's enough space before buying and/or fitting. I would say some plastic pry tools come in useful and some radio removal keys are necessary, there's plenty of videos on youtube for removing the stereo.
@@Jobey_99 Routing the cables, i dismantled the screen and the carplay box would fit, however I cant seem to figure out how the wires gk from behind the MIB to behind the screen, especially the big box connector
@@LiquidityRL It may come down to different cable lengths on the car play adapters, but I was able to run most of the new cabling to behind the stereo, but I had to keep the quadlock style connector in the space above the MIB. From memory, there was just enough space for the connector in the dash and all cables that needed routing to the stereo had to go up into that space and then into a small hole towards the stereo side. I will say it was not an easy install and I could imagine that if any part of the car was in a different place or a hole was slightly smaller it would make it next to impossible, the tolerances were very close to everything fitting.
@@Jobey_99 yea im just finding it difficult to find the holes that lead to spaces and actually fitting things in the limited space available, will give it another go soon though. thanks
Ohhh, that is engenious! I started trying to fit it there but with no success, ended up puting the box behind the screen, lots of space there and it is easy to rout the cables. Only drawback is I don't have the usb provided with the kit permanently fitted. Thank you for this video.
@@_ny385 I didn’t get no responses, so I went along to a local audio installation place and they charged £80 to fit it all for me behind the centre console/dash. I didn’t need them to set it all up but the hiding it all away was beyond me. Saved money on purchasing the unit compared to vendors in the uk so spending the money to fit still left me with savings!
@@zackpatel3506 thanks for the reply! I ordered my unit last week so it should arrive soon hopefully! I'll try fit it and if I fail I'll go to a local audio dealer :). How do u find the unit? I have mib1 with no navigation currently so I'm excited to try it :)
@@_ny385 it’s amazing works seamlessly, watch the flying Dutchman’s other vid on how to get it to work with the steering wheel controls and improved audio quality. If you a have the same car me and him do, you’ll need to make your dip switch pattern as follows: 1down, 2/3/4up,5down,6/7/8 up. If you have a different car or this pattern just doesn’t work for you and you can see the CarPlay but when using it the touch screen doesn’t work or the interface is too minimised/large then mess with the dip switches till you find what works for you. (I found the company a bit meh! It was quicker to figure it out on my own then keep trying various combos they suggested and wait between each correspondence)
I tried hiding the carplay unit in the same space where you were hiding it but because I have a Helix subwoofer in my trunk (Golf 7 Variant) the cables running from my glovebox unit to the subwoofer are blocking me from hiding it there. I have now hidden my carplay unit behind the infotainment screen. All I had to do was unscrew the glovebox for a bit, guide the cables towards the center console behind the screen and boom, I now have working carplay and the unit is hidden neat and clean.
Thanks a lot!!! Your video gave me the motivation for another try after 2 hours on it. The tips is indeed to place it on the top right. Also insure before pushing the autoradio that the tension on the big cable will lead the connector to the top 😀. Thanks again 👍
Thank you for this! After about an hour of struggle and scratching the hell out of my hands I got it all in! The key for me was making sure the cables were routed at the very back, not on the right side. The space back there is incredibly tight, and took me ages. Luckily I have slim hands and long fingers or I don’t think it would have been possible!
There is no place behind the glove box to bring the CarPlay unit cables from the side in the japanese model. Is there a way around this or am I doing it wrong?
Hi, I have a question: if you are listening radio fm what happens when you switch to android auto/carplay? do the radio stop or it continues playing? thanks in advance
Hi, great video. Where is your fusebox located? my MK 7 glove box has the fuse box located there so there is nowhere for the new unit/box to go, any suggestions?
I’ve got a RHD mk7 as I’m in the UK and I had to put the car play media box behind the screen as the UK model fuse box is in the location where u put ur box but it all fitted. I had to put the quad lock untop of the stereo unit.
Bro, would you mind helping me do this? Is it major work? I don’t want to leave the CarPlay box and it’s wires in the glove compartment. I can give you my insta, and whatsapp from there if you don’t mind?
@@zackpatel3506 it’s possible. However it tests your patients. The amount of times I had to keep removing the glove box to get the wire through to the front as well as making sure the glove box closes properly and the stereo goes back in. I’d recommend you give it a try yourself if your good with these kind of installation. A lot of trial and error involved. I had to cut some of the plastic in the glove box area to ensure that the wire don’t get snagged by any of the moving parts.
Only when you use a wrong dip setting an error can occur. The dip settings for different models are printed on the backside. The device can never harm existing system.
Tried to install the interface but was not able to do it... the quadlock adapter that came with the interface does not fit! I can't insert the quadlock, the clip is in the way, no matter how i try. and the bracket to fasten the clip is broken, gone... Should I call the company if they could send another one? Is there a specific label for this adapter? They are not cheap at all, but if the quality is ok I wanna be sure to order the right one... :(
I have a rhd golf and there is a fuse box where the unit should sit. I've tried tucking in the small gap bottom left but I can never shut the glovebox properly. Did anyone sort this out??
Bro. You’re a magician. What spells do you use? I can not get them wires tucked in…….at all. My hands are shredded. I’d pay you to fly to New Jersey and do this for me. Kidding. Anyhow I have the deck hanging halfway out, ran out of light.
Aaah that really sucks.. I don’t really know what to tell as a hint🤣 maybe my hands are a tad smaller, i don’t really know.. I’d be happy to install it for you, but NJ is a bit far from my front door lol What some people do is remove the center screen, so they can reach behind the dash, maybe it’s an idea for you? Good luck! PS: ⚡️ lightning bolt ⚡️
Hello, I need your help! I installed the Cartizan device already half a year ago, and everything was fine until this winter. Now, after the car has stood for a couple of days without movement when the engine is turned on, the screen doesn't turn on. It is completely turned off and does not react to anything, there is no sound either. In order for the screen to work, now I take out the multimedia unit from the glove compartment every time, turn off the main bus (the largest and thickest cable), and turn it on again. After such a reboot, everything works again, but you understand that every time I still need to lay cables, put everything in place, etc. Discover Pro MIB1 system, VW Golf 7 2013
Hi all, does anyone else is having issue with this carplay unit? It works few minutes for me and then it starts to be laggy, keeps restarting or it freezes completely. Usually it ends with no (black) screen and audio only. Can anyone help please? Any ideas? Thanks in advance
To those who have already fitted the device: can you please provide feed-back on the sound quality? When using the BT option to my Andriod phone the quality is much poorer than from my duke box / DAB / CD. I have a 2014 GTD with factory Dynaudio and a MIB1 Discoverer Pro head unit. Thanks in advance for any wisdom shared!
When using mine with a 2014 GTI with MIB1 5.8" system it actually sounds bassier, don't notice any massive volume difference when switching back to radio. Nothing negative to report from me.
I wouldn't say it was laggy, I think it responds very well. The only thing I will say is that with the smaller screen the resolution won't be as good, but it was better than I expected. I have a Sony Carplay unit in my other car and that is better resolution, but then the golf screen is 10 years old now and the sony unit is 2 years old... You still get full functions of the existing VW infotainment just get this as an additional set of features - you won't regret doing it @@Knikkerdoos
Yeh, it nearly impossible with the fuse board, I've just spent 2 hours trying to get it all to fit, the big block is not the issue ,it's the new unit and cables are Incredibly tricky, I'm close to drilling holes inside at this stage
@@bilaalrahman2559 yeh, I eventually had to hack at the side where the airbag switch is, but it still was not neat, ended up ripping it back out in annoyance, and got a 10" Android unit installed and it's phenomenal, sorry, there is no work around for a right hand drive car
@@bilaalrahman2559 about 300 euro after fitting, so after taking in to account the cost of the first unit and then the new Android unit, I spent over 650 euro, but trust me go to any of the car audio specialists ( not feckin halfords) and they fill fit one of these units, you can buy them on ali express for like 130 euro, I just wasn't bothered fiddling around with it anymore, my heart was broken trying to get that unit to fit, and even when I did, it want 100% to be honest
Anyone has any experience to hide the module on a Polo 6R? I just looked at my glovebox and it's very small in comparison with his Golf. I don't think it's possible to hide it.
