Hi! There's a "license" file that stores activation keys for features like bluetooth, navigation, carplay, performance monitor, voice control... If this file (FecContainer.fec) gets corrupted or missing your head unit will not allow you to use these features. I would say that it's unlikely for it to get damaged. But as you can see it can happen. What you local dealer did? They connected the car to VW online system and requested VW server to generate new .fec file according to cars specification. Then uploaded it to the head unit. Good thing that they knew what to do and didn't want to replace the head unit with new one which would cost $500+ in parts AND would require the same .fec request&upload procedure for the fresh head unit.

Hi. I bought obd11 few weeks ago afyer watching your videos to enable developers mode but find out my multimedia unit not accepting any update. In obd11 live deta shows NEW VERSION available but I dont kne how to update. I can access to green menu but no toolbox option there. Can you please help me. Hello I’ve just come across this video I’ve noticed I have the 5Q0 035 874 - MIB2 Skoda Amundsen in my golf mk7 🤔 will I just be able to change the screen and trim without changing the head unit in the glove box?
Biggest screen is 9,2”. It will not work with this unit. The biggest that you can fit is 8” glass display from facelift or 8” matte from the Discover Pro before facelift. Both will work.

Do you know the meaning of the letters described on the version file ? My unit uses MST2_EU_PQ_PO245T, the CD player is located above the screen. Your unit uses a spare CD player an uses the same version , but with the letter ZR ! Is it the difference ? PQ - ZR ? Thank you
MST2 = MIB2 Standard EU = European region PQ = PQ platform vehicle version (all-in-one unit) P0245T = [P]roduction software, version [0245], unit by [T]echnisat ZR are installed in EU Passat, Golf MK7. Display is separate from the main unit.
Is it possible to go from composite media to a discover media unit by just changing hardware (screen and head unit in glove box) or is it more involved than that?
There's GPS antenna which you will need. Also the device is secured by Component Protection which will kick in and limit functionality of the unit as soon as the new device is powered in different car than it was fitted originally. You will have to remove CP at dealers when they verify that it wasn't stolen in the first place. Then they need to upload FEC/SWaP codes, because functionality of MIB units is protected with "license keys".
@@mrfixpl just an update. I bought a headunit from a MIB2.5 car, it was unlocked, the only coding needed was to change the radio frequencies, i left a comment in that video so anyone doing the same retrofit has the reference.

Hi I have recently bought a 2016 VW Passat It has a media system ( no navigation) that I am unsure of it’s features etc as can’t get anything to work. As I can’t see the model number on your list I thought I could message. It’s a 3Q003582A Software H25.14.78_STD2_EU Installed sw mu version 0624 The display looks similar to the one in the video but has “mute” bottom left. Do you know what features this should have or any upgrades it could have etc?

If it's not there from the factory, then you can enable it only by hacking the main unit. Which you can not DIY at home. Check my video about FEC/SWaP codes to learn more.
Hello. I have a Passat B8 highline 2015 and the headunit has the part number 3G0035044A running SW MU version 199 and SW train version mhi2_er_vwg11_k0259. I assume is a MIB2 Pro. How can I get carplay on this headunit? There is no appconnect menu, only mirrorlink. Firmware upgrade? Mib2 to mib2.5 conversion? What is the latest fw i can upgrade? Thanks.
