Salt life, light beer, and yeti, not surprised, well at least there outside, .45 tried and true, careful with those hot loads, I have a few pipes most all of them estates, my best smoker is a Frankinpipe an old Monte Verdi with a danish bit, bulldog style, have you chopped any wood recently, it's almost that time! I am outside enjoying the well needed rain here in Texas, smoking some Raining Days & Mondays from Rich's tobacco.
Really great to see Timberdrifter back on the air waves. I really enjoy listening to this man talk. Always interesting. Thanks for the video T D. You just made my whole week, take care, Tommy
Ooh, I don't care much for clouds of mosquitos. Sounds like Memorial Day is a bit of a pain in the a$$, sorry to hear. I'm with you on the appreciation of the wooded nature, lakes, etc.
Its amazing that i got the same pipe (long horn stem) but mine its meerschaum in excellent condition. I got it about 5 years ago. It was in an abused case. In side was a gold letter sticker, not very clear, but i clear read the name france and 1920. That pipe smoke perfect, its color its like coca cola. The person - persons before me must loved that pipe. So i guess a pipe does not belong to a smoker, the opposite maybe. Be well
45 colt is one of my favorite cartridges. My dad has a Henry big boy in that chambering. Really fun. Best thing I have ever found at the gun show was a sks with bakelite stock. Guy wanted what I thought was a fortune at the time 600 bones .
And bears! Oh my. Am I pushing it? Anyway on east coast I killed about 10 of those little damn mosquitos in one evening inside by the door. Good to see ya, back to the video. Be safe and well out there.
Haven't been to a gun show in years. Used to about twice a year. I always found what I was looking for. Just couldn't afford em. I did always want a old bolt action 30-30 Win. or a pump action. Found em about every time but they were pricey. I did buy a Remington 760 woodsmaster automatic exactly like my dad's that he used all his adult life. I put a scope on mine but his was always open sights. It and the model 94 Winchester 30-30 he bought me as a kid are my favorite guns I own. If I was homeless they'd be strapped to my back. I'd never sell em. I have many boxes of paper shotgun shells as well. We always had lots of random items at the gun shows but I've never seen pipes. Have seen old Zippos though. Take care brother. Enjoyed the chat.
This was a great video. Love going to gun shows. Youre right about them being museums that you can handle to pieces. Its the only time I ever handled a Luger from a Nazi officer as well as a colt 1911 that was at D-Day. Naturally both of these times were being asked wayyyyy too much money for my bank account but nevertheless it was amazing to hold them. Cool find on the pipes! I too have never seen them at gun shows. Special those are. Cant wait to see ya bringing them back to life. I have fallen head over heels for estates because of the history they provide. Good seeing ya buddy!
kinda like finding a gun on a table at a pipe show. ive always like estate pipes. at least if they aren't too chewed up. id say at least 90% of my pipes are estates. probably about the same with my guns.
Ha! Exactly! Flip flops, Hawaii shirts, short pants, and an over priced Yeti cooler.........those are the folks I avoid. At least they are easy to spot. I've always enjoyed gun shows, and go to as many as I can. Used to be you went to gun shows to find a deal.....now they are exactly what they are called....gun show....not gun sale, gun show......you go to look, not to buy. Prices are sky high, there are no more deals. I'll still go to support them though. I look for other things, brass, bullet molds, that kind of thing. Rarely do I find a gun anymore.
I believe the Sunrise pipes were made in the Chapuis Comoy factory in St. Claude. The bone tenon on the long French briar has to date it as either early 20th century or even possibly late 19th century. Great find.
Baaahhhaaaa I thought I was seeing things when you started to put the shell to your mouth take care bud . Finally was able to snag a few boxes of 357 around here
Enjoyed the video, You had me laughing at the Saltlife comments. I live on the east coast and I don’t understand it. Good marketing I guess. LOL Cool hearing about the gun show and the old ammunition, I have a small collection of old shot shells and love the detail in them. Regards Mark
Hiyas TD, 2 very nice pipes! Bought at a gun show, why not, pipes go well with nearly every hobby that requires patience, dedication, discipline and appreciation of history. I must say that even I would own a gun if I had your neighbors. I reckon that they don't give you a second chance if they catch you. Looking forward to seeing clouds of smoke from both those pipes, once they're tidied up. Peace & Serene smokes my friend, Gary
i like having black bears around. they mostly keep to themselves and they can be quite the clowns if they don't know anyone is watching. hope to not have anymore impolite encounters with them
Ah yes, bug season in the north woods - insect and vacationer swarms. Yeah, every black bear is an individual and some defy their shy, evasive stereotype. Ammunition certainly remains a problem here and now I imagine there will be another run on 9mm Parabellum -- and probably every other cartridge. Anyway, I'm still looking for .300 Savage and some .41 and .357 magnum loads. I did finally find some .38 Special. All the best.
i saw all those rounds at the gun show. .300 savage was going for around $70 a box. there was a lot of it on the shelves at local stores last summer. hundreds of boxs. around $40 or $ 50 each. made me think they did a big run of it and aren't planning to do another one. i dont have a rifle in that caliber but i almost snagged a box anyway. just in case.
Great video! Ah yes, the Minnesota State Bird (mosquitos) ... Someone said your new favorite pipe may be a Ropp. I concur. I have a much shorter. Younger Bulldog version; which is a Ropp. Your's is a reat find! My Ropp is shorter but I can get a longer smoke from it than some of my regular sized pipes. Do you remember several years ago when someone in the YTPC decided honor presenters with titles ( Prince of Perique, Lord of Latakia)? From your analysis of the pipes smoking history you should be The Sherlick Holmes of Pipes.
I'm in Michigan and we always say that people with the "Salt Life" stickers are lost. I've only found a few boxes of .45LC around here and they are going for damn near $1 per round. I like to shoot them in my case colored Pietta 1873 with ivory grips, great pistol. Gun shows are a great time, you never know what you are going to find there.
yep ammo is expensive . $ 39.95 for the cheapest brick of 22lr 500 rounds i could find. bugs are not bad here yet, at least not by the lake. sweet old horn stemmed pipe! hell of a damn find. cant go wrong with some beeswax candles either. later
that was what i was hoping. fortunately i haven't needed to try it out. that round doesn't kick as bad as i thought it might. not exactly pleasant but still fun to shoot.
