Here is a short film, shot in consumer silent 8mm, in around 1969 or 1970 at Barger Engineering by Peter Berg and provided to me by George Steber many years ago. Maybe located in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale or Mountain View California. The area commonly known today as the Silicon Valley. The VCR design team were comprised of a bunch of maverick engineers from Ampex and other VTR companies of the area. I share everything I know about this film's content, which ain't much I am sorry to say. I believe that the color process used in the Cartrivision format was designed by Barret "Barry" Guisinger, with whom I worked at Sony in 1983 to 1984.
Enjoy!

My dad Sheldon H Brown is in the clip at 2:23. He was a research engineer who came from Avco Corp in Cincinnati moving to Cupertino, CA in 1969. I recognize Peter Berg and Phil Crosno in much of the clip. These guys were dedicated and overly motivated …working all night many times or until the wee morning hours. I do have some remnants of the Cartrivision Camera. Someone in my family may have the player as well. So great this info is archived. Cyndi (Brown) Smith. Red Wing, MN

I definitely enjoyed the film. Too bad the original is lost. Isn't it something about office dress codes of the late sixties and early seventies? Pencil thin ties. I also like the comment made regarding the height of the consumer controls were influenced by how they worked on the system on top of their desks. I really like this channel. Longtime subscriber. Also been to your website as far back as the 90's.

Quite unfortunate about the quality of the film because you can get nice 4K scans of 8mm these days. I remember HD anything was still out of the hands of most people in 2004 (including myself, kinda like how video equipment was probably out of the hands of most people in 1974 except those lucky Cartivision owners! lol) we’ve gone through leaps and bounds the past 20 years when it came to internet video quality, but I guess it’s better than no footage at all!

An interesting piece of home video recording history. Thank you so much for sharing. This format never made it over the ocean I assume. Kind regards from Zurich, Switzerland!
