This is my end of year video for 2021. What a wonderful project. It sort of reminds me of the battery operated scuba diving Cartrivision camera concept that was shown on 1970s newsletters. I love mixing old technology with new technology myself. I still record video with my modified Fisher Price PXL-2000 compact cassette based camera. There is something very nostalgic about a low resolution black and white video feed. Modern day video editing software has options to simulate vintage video formats but you simply cannot beat the real thing. The 8mm and Super8 video formats also have a wonderful vintage look. I use Chinese and taiwanese video capture devices and they are impressive.

Thanks Rene! This whole project has been a bit of a lark for me. "Just for the heck of it tech". The pieces are slowly coming together. Still waiting for my 60 cycle reference chips that I "imported from the Orient". You know I am reducing my collection. You NEED to contact me directly before it all goes to recycling.

@@videolabguy I have way too much stock myself. I sometimes have to buy up to three machines just to get one up and running. Nothing is easy, even breathing takes work. The "just for the heck of it" projects are my favorite. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. But when they do work I want to show them to everyone. Unsuccessful projects, repairs and restorations are never a loss. One always gains wisdom. That "get your hands dirty and dig in" type of wisdom.

I have a clear click to record a modified PXL-2000, it works great, although if it were a little more portable I’d be delighted.

@@videolabguy well i know what im doing for my new years resolution. on january 1st i'm going on a diet. on january 2nd, ditch the diet thing cause me and a diet is like mixing sugar and salt.

For me, the easiest way to keep a new year's resolution is to not make one. If I am not doing it right the other 364 days of the year, then I just look foolish declaring some unattainable goal one day a year. As for diets, I went full keto two years ago. Go back and look at my videos and see the difference. Should I make a video about what I eat? Nobody will believe it. But, for me at least, it works like magic. Went from 210 pounds down to 155 in about 9 months.

What record options does that thing have? Is there a way to preserve the original 480i interlacing or does it only record to 480p30 or 60?

I couldn't say. I have not tested it that far. I would guess that it is a very lossy MP4 process to squeeze as much video onto the card or thumb drive as possible. As mentioned, this is certainly not a broadcast quality encoder at first glance.
