nice video on bridge shaping/carving, loved the simple screw through piece of wood for thinning top perimeter,so simple yet so effective thanks a bunch!

I was worried that the full video might have been a bridge too far, but au contraire, mon ami: it has proven to be a soothing, therapeutic experience; I could almost smell the wood shavings and the oil!

Very interesting and informative video Tom. I be interested to know what is the height at the front of the bridge that you are aiming for. I thickness my bridge height to 9mm at the front of the bridge and aim for a 14mm height at the front of the bridge from the soundboard top to the top of the saddle. What are your thoughts on these aspects. Wayne WJ Guitars Australia

Having always been a very visual based learner, I very much appreciate these skill based videos. I will definitely be modifying some of my scraper’s. I’d imagine that determining a target weight for your bridges has come from experience and that the wood species plays a large part. But in general terms is there range I should be looking for? I’ve used rosewood and ebony in the past and never considered weighing them upon completion. I’m currently working with ziracote and will definitely start recording weight in my journal. Any tips on a good target weight for that species? Also, I’d enjoy seeing videos on your side bending and binding processes. Thanks for another great video. 🙂👍🏼

Good morning Tom… Watching this while having my morning coffee was quite enjoyable, as well as timely. I’m a couple of days away from creating the bridge on my current guitar, and I always have mixed emotions during this time. There’s the excitement, on one hand, about being ever-so-close to hearing the guitar speak for the first time…yet there’s a bit of melancholy because the relationship I’ve carefully nurtured with this collection of wooden parts is about to be lost, as it leaves the shop and travels to live with its person. It was rewarding to see that your process here is much like my own…time-consuming, careful and very intentional. For me, as with you, it’s about the aesthetic and personal elements of the builder’s touch… Yet for me, it’s also about spending a little extra quality time with someone I know I’m about to say “goodbye” to. -joel

Awesome work! I really enjoyed your philosophy as to why you were doing them all individually by hand. Getting that feel and working the experience into the final shape can't be replicated with a machine. I would love to see some of your processes around making and adding your copper accent pieces.

Beautiful work Tom. Quick question is the sanding block ,onto which you sanded the underneath of the bridge , formed with a top radius in the long plane only ( rather than compound radius )and would that entail a further refinement at gluing stage ( sandpaper on top method ) ?
@TomSandsGuitars
@TomSandsGuitars Год назад
