I'm retired in S.CA where there is nothing but parks and boredom. Miss my MN home when I lived near forests and enjoyed the crackling of walking in the "woods" on an autumn day. You make me envious...well, it's not your fault. I enjoy your videos.
Hi Doug... Just discovered your channel. One more gateway ‘drug’ toward all the things I think make life worth living. Look forward to indulging in your channel over the holidays... Thanks so much for the effort. Love the carvings...
Now that's my idea of a day well spent, Mr Doug - sitting in the sunshine under an old willow tree by a gently flowing stream, carving a little gnome and making a hot drink on the twig stove. Perfect! Thanks for sharing your carving skills, I am learning...little by little. The finished gnome was a great little character, and he seemed to like his dip in the stream - they come alive when you're not watching you know... and did you know that when you are concentrating your feet don't move at all...?
Enjoying watching your videos. I am a master scroll sawer. I was in a carving club years ago. They closed it down and have not picked up a knife in 4 to 5 years. Your videos is making me get back into it.
great video doug .love the bit were u put the water in the cup.still haven't seen the knives i want.but got my eyes peeled for sum.the carving looks like fred dibnah .great guy who loved his trains ...keep up the good work love your videos and a top man.👍👍👍
Great job. My son and I are just waiting for our carving gear and basswood to arrive so we can get started. All because of your vids. I even got my eye on a Helvie knife from chipping away. We're from Ontario as well.
Great vid Doug. I want that little man. Please sign it before you send it. I think in 30 years it will be worth more than a Tom Brady autographed football! I'd love to see you carve yourself and friends characters. Joe would be easy just a stick with eyes.
Sitting by the creek, firebox boiling the coffee water, under a nice tree and carving a little man, oh ya Doug was here to lol. Great video Doug. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed this video. I plan to learn to carve so I can teach my 9 year old grandson to carve. It will give us something to do together while we are camping or just hanging out. Thank you for the family friendly videos.
Watched a couple of your videos this past week or so, and brought an old pocket knife and some wood with me on my trip to Lake Patoka. We rented a house boat and it’s been so nice unwinding and watching these videos and carving along with you. Shouldn’t say this, but I cant wait to get home and pick up some basswood and a proper carving knife at my local lumber store in Indianapolis. Love the channel!
Your a funny man Doug 😀 , I agree with you that your carvings need to make you smile & I smile every time I see one , you are quite talented ......... The comments about (Gangsta) Joe & (Quiet) Scramble O made me laugh , all 4 of you are a good group of guys (adding Shawn James) , Keep up the good work , I enjoyed the video 👍
hey Doug...great carving. Really enjoyed the video...very relaxing and picked upa few things. Carving is perhaps my most favorite hobby and I always enjoy watch another create. can't wait for the next video...
I find it amazing that you can look at a block of wood and see the pieces that need to be removed to reveal the figure inside. That takes a special kind of vision.
Ironic I think not as I sit with my canteen cup full of coffee on a sycamore log listening to the turkeys fly down and the roosters crowing thanks for the carving and coffee vids Doug as it got me to go out in the woods to get new wood and relax and let the chips fly thanks Doug
Of course it's stil dark in the woods came out to collect some more carving stock this morning and seen fit for a coffee while I wait on day light what would be your favorite wood from the landscape now mind you iam from southern Ohio we don't have bass wood growing everywhere we do have pine and cedar poplar, sycamore of course lol
+Bryan Waugh morning Bryan -hope you have some success this morning. sycamore is not a bad wood for carving however it is hard, clear pine or cedar works much better though if you don't have access to Basswood
Hi there Doug , well I'm 55 and just happened to come across one of your videos last week and liked it so much it inspired me to have a go at doing a bit of whittling and really shocked myself , it's so satisfying to make a little figure from a piece of wood , only got a Swiss Army knife, now thinking of investing in a proper knife . You live in such a cool place as well 👍
Doug, I liked your setting of the tree and stream. I could hear the Black birds chirping in the background. It reminded me of growing up in Boise Idaho along the Boise river. Great video I learned a lot about carving and keeping my knife sharpened. Good idea to wear a glove, I have cut my thumb many a time because I did not wear a glove. Thanks again, James De.
Thank You Doug, it's interesting, fun and relaxing to learn how this little guy came to life. Such a Pleasant setting for it and enjoyed the various camera angles. I appreciate that you do varied content but more then that for me Doug, is that it's always about the Host. I'm a fan of some of your friends Ch.'s as well and again it's 70% personality/30% content. That's a driving factor of my viewing enjoyment and a reason why I've been your subscriber for some time now. Always enjoy Doug being Doug. During this video I was taken aback by the commentary, I laughed and had intent interest. I always appreciate your perceptions, viewpoints and stories big D. Warm Regards, ... Oregon Mike H
Hi Doug and thanks for the amazing videos , whats not to enjoy about the little people, I used to carve many years ago, Decoy ducks and animals , but moved on to other things as you do. now while casting around on you tube looking for ukulele stuff I came across your site and thought um close enough. Well now I'm hooked on 2 hobbies, both very enjoyable. Please keep them coming its better than the rubbish on TV and I will have a little family to boot.....ha ha.. best regards Graham Lowe. UK....
Thanks for sparking my interest in carving. I've been keeping my eyes open for nice chunks of wood while on hikes, and jobsites. What a great little old man you created there. Love the glasses. Best wishes.
Geez Doug, you got me into another hobby. Nice relaxing way to pass the time, carving and watching your videos. My wife even lets me carve in the living room.
Thanks Doug, I really like the casual conversation as you carve.I'm into duck decoys but after watching you I might try some little figures. They do make you smile so I see why they make you happy. Keep em coming. The glasses were a nice touch.
Happy New year Doug! Thank you for the detail instructional videos you've made. May you could throw in a little fishing in one your wonderful carving videos .Have a great year sir .
I don't just... "Like" it.... I LOVE IT !!! You are very talented in everything you do. All your videos are wonderful, relaxing and educational. You are the best outdoors man, hiking and fisherman I've seen in the many bush crafters I've watched. Actually, Doug, you, your wife and doggies are my favorite. Any video you produce is the best. Thank you for taking this time to share.
Wow! Amazing skills there, Doug! The old man seemed to come to life halfway thru your carving him. Beautiful work and your property is incredible. Thanks for an enjoyable 46 minutes.
Great video Doug. Really liked the bit about the family history as well. Sounds like our parents/grandparents had the same idea after the war. Thanks for sharing.
I just figured out how to write a comment. And by me I mean my wife did lol. As always awesome videos I always have a good laugh and a bit of education. Keep up the good videos. Shout out from Ohio. Thank you
Really liked the video. Enjoyed the nice change of pace. I've always been interested in doing what you do with carving wood. Very informative. I always look forward to your videos as well as Joe Robinet's. I always get a laugh when you are along with him and seem to have such a great time. Good job.
