Carving the Neck (Ep 12 - Acoustic Guitar Build) 

You are making a really nice job of your guitar, Well done!! Just a quick point - I am constantly surprised that most hand builders on RU-vid tend to use rasps for shaping the whole neck. This is hard work and means that you are only working in one area at a time. The very best tool for this is a sharp spokeshave as once you have created your reference points you can take full length shavings off the neck which means you are keeping it straight and true from the heel to the headstock. With practice you can shape the main part of the neck in minutes leaving only the heel to blend in. The other bonus is you hardly need any sanding as the spokeshave leaves a far superior finish. Try it and you will see just what I mean, but you must have both flat a curved sole spokeshaves and very sharp blades. Keep up the good work!!

Hey Guy, you are doing fine. It is inspiring to see a young person making good use of his time by not only “doing stuff” but also by helping other people feel confortable and confident of just go for it and do it. My only suggestion is if you can show more in detail how you get the shape at the bottom because I find that to be the must difficult part to get done. I think there us too much involved there since is the place where the two sections of the guitar joint. Measurements and form has to be precise and that us where I am having a hard time. Nevertheless, you are an inspiration an motivator at your young age. Keep up the great work. I also like your humbleness. Very important virtue (at least for my opinion).

Enjoying the series a lot, been following along learning the process prior to taking the leap myself. I like that you keep it accessible and are honest about when we might want to make a compromise vs parts of the guitar that are much more crucial to be perfect. Id love it if you made a video focusing on inlay work. Keep it up, I'll send you a note when I get my first kit of supplies!

I really enjoy your video’s which have inspired me to pull some of my woodworking tools off the shelf vs collecting dust. I ended up building 4 canoe paddles with my kids (8,10&12) watching your video and it was amazing quality time them. They loved selecting thier own wood patterns, gluing, and staining however not much on the sanding. Gets them off computers and put some elbow grease into something they can look at and appreciate years from now. Since then I have built some large cutting boards which have been an absolute hit as gifts and are relatively easy to make. Might be a quick cheap project you can do for viewers looking for something easy and functional as well. The boards are always a discussion item when I bring them out with company. Funny that I was just looking at those Shinto tools on amazon today.... I couldn't decide which one to get, there were 3 different models. But seeing you put it to use has convinced me to get one. It looks like it works better than an ordinary rasp. Maybe one day I'll have access to a shop & all he tools required to build a guitar. Learning to play a guitar right now takes up most of my free time.

I've never seen that neck carving method. I'll have to try that for a Fender Strat copy I'm considering working on.

Great video! I think you could expand doing smaller short videos on whatever you like switch it up. I like the long term projects as well. Keep up the good work.

Great job! I really like how you mounted the neck prior to carving. I also agree that it is one of the best parts of making a guitar. Keep up the good work. Doing some smaller projects, i.e,, jewelry boxes, etc.. & tool reviews, is not a bad idea.................. :)

I know many first get the FB and neck to width and then glue them together. I wonder how many ways there potentially are to do that. Is it possible (why not?) to glue unshaped FB to the neck and then shape them to width when they are glue joined? There are actually 4 variants.

I would love to see a desk or bench but you could incorporate some LED lights or RGB lights.

Finally caught up on the videos. Beautiful work on the neck, cannot wait to see the finish on it. Do not care much for tool reviews, what you do is perfect. I see an Oregon flag in the background, are you near Portland? I am near Seattle.

I know this video is a few months old but oh well, I've been a woodworker, professional and hobbyist, for a long time and never built a guitar, but it's on the list. As far as videos go, I would say maybe once a week or month, pick the hardest part of the current project and make a longer/more in depth video about it. I know most people like the short sweet and to the point but the ones that care about actually doing things or doing them right would rather see the struggle or the more explained version and not have to go 15 or more places to piece together a full tutorial of sorts lol. Just my 2 cents though.

Maybe you could do a series for begginers. With must have tools and basic skills

I think your video's are excellent. I do not understand why they don't have a lot more views. My only suggestion would be to invest a bit of time in finding out how to promote your videos on youtube. Right now I'm looking at Ep12 and it has 229 likes and only 1 dislike. That proves that when you put these video's in front of people ... they like them.
