You process for joining the top and bottom plates is as most all luthiers use, even the most renowned ones. When i built my second guitar many years ago, one book i studied suggested to very slightly scallop the joint edges by just a few thousands of an inch. His reasoning was that over many years or even decades, the end grains of these plates would shrink slightly more than in the middle of the plates. it is really critically thinking, but decided to follow his suggestion and had no ill effects from it.

These are by far my favorite woodworking videos I’ve seen to date. Thank you!

I love your videos. They are very professional. I watched all of your Canoe building and now I am watching your guitar series. You asked for ideas and I was thinking a wooden clock with gears you make yourself.

Yahoo, another video from my second favorite DIYer. All caught up so I get to see them as soon as they come out. Still wishing I could do as good a job, maybe someday when I retire.

Hi, Elijah here, the guy who messaged ya on FB. Video is SUPERB as usual man. Great stuff. I watched another luthier use triangle wedges squashed together to push the plates together. I like your method more. Pretty smart to use a slight angle to get the same outcome. I know i sound really cliche when i compliment you, but honestly. Most stuff on youtube is half-assed together and your channel is a breath of fresh air. Keep it up, i'm going to keep watching. :)

Nice work! Been there, done that routine & you are right that the glue up must be done correctly. I also agree with Lexonn that you should try using Hide Glue as it allows for better sound vibration of the wood. I would suggest using it for attaching the top & back of the guitar to the body. I used it for my whole build............ :)

Great video. Around the 2:00 mark ... You can use PSA sandpaper rather than spray those sticky chemicals around the shop.

Great videos - thank you. I could really use guidance on the acquisition of appropriate tools. From chisels to band saw, to router and table, drill press etc. Can you help? Just launching out on acoustic guitar building . . . .Charlie

Those craftsman bandsaws are all over eBay and craigslist etc. any issues with them? I know I won’t be resawing large blanks into my own backs and tops , but???

what kind off wood do you use for the back?

thanks sir what's the standard thickness of the top and back of an acoustic guitar?
@phatthand

.10 inch is a reasonable place to start. Backs and side maybe a little thinner but really it varies with wood and design of the instrument.

Have you tried using hide glule?
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam 6 лет назад
I have not, I know a lot of luthiers use it for a couple pretty good reasons, I just have a lot of trust in titebond and I hate to complicate things with different glues for different jobs

elerbe_ 195 it’s difficult to find wood in those dimensions with ideal grain.

The music is both annoying and distracting when trying to listen to your instructions.
