Part 2 of fixing my hoe. Lots of brakes in this one, machining, riveting, replacing, and all that stuff that has to do with brakes.

I guess the "dirty hoe" joke is stock in trade, because I use it too! Thanks very much for this video. My 580C has no brakes at all anymore, so next week I'm finally going to fix them. Your video gives me the confidence to go for it. Thanks again!

Haha, she's a good hoe though. Good luck with the brakes! They aren't anything complicated, just heavy!

When you rivet the bands always start from the centre and work out towards the ends that way you do not get any gaps between the lining and band
@morecowbell20
@morecowbell20 4 месяца назад
@@PeterShaw-lb9lt The bands I got from BrokenTractor didn't require rivets. They were bonded, which made my life easier. Thanks for that information though!

@morecowbell20 I was a brake bonder I bonded a lot of those brake bands and the discs it was easer and no rivets to score the drum or plates

You are an inspiration! I think I may be able to tackle the brakes on our old 580 CK...maybe! LOL!

You'll have no problem getting them done. It is fairly strait forward, everything is just heavy! Take your time with them.

I think the wiring is bad for the lights. I plan to go threw and rewire most of the hoe someday.

Are you getting any buckets
@VPTfab
@VPTfab 8 месяцев назад
Not going to get any right now. If a super good deal pops up on one or I need a different size bucket for a project I might. I guess there is a want for the small 12" buckets, I may make some.

Where do those two little spings attach to pull back the brake shoes? I think I might have attached mine wrong. The pads fit tight to the drums. I had to flex the pads back slightly with a screw driver to get the drums to drop in. I am already at the end my adustement rod. Something seems wrong. Any ideas?

I honestly don't know how they attach to the housing. I think they sat in a pocket in the housing then just attached to a little ear on the back of the brake shoes. The ear is just a punched out section of metal that is part of the brake shoe backing. Hope this helps
@jeffd.8917
@jeffd.8917 5 месяцев назад
@@VPTfab I know they are in the housing correctly. I think I have them on the ear correctly. I hope the Chinese shoes are to specification. I will make a video if I have to rip back apart. I hope the guy before me didn't use the wrong springs. I don't mind a slight mess up when learning, but the ground is a swampy muddy mess right now where I am trying to work. I really appreciate the response. Thanks again.

@@jeffd.8917 You don't have the tensioner too tight?
@jeffd.8917
@jeffd.8917 5 месяцев назад
@@VPTfab No. Is absolutey as loose as it can go. I barely have a single thread showing at the top of the adjuster rod.
@jeffd.8917
@jeffd.8917 5 месяцев назад
@@VPTfab No. The self adjuster rod has only one top thread showing. I have them so loose I can't even put the locker nut on behind the acorn nut. I am worried because I cannot spin the tire by hand. If I loosen the left side up, I can spin the wheel, but when I did the right side, I could no longer spin either wheel by hand.

Possibly, where you located?

Where did you get your parts from?
@VPTfab
@VPTfab 8 месяцев назад
I ended up getting everything off eBay. I got the linings from J&J AG equipment LLC on eBay. They had good feedback but obviously the parts are imports. I have no affiliation with them, just the one I picked to order from. I do prefer to support local first, eBay is just convenient for hard to find parts.
