Case Steam Tractor Plowing Field, Steam Traction Engine Plowing a Field Rough and Tumble
This video is of a Case steam tractor. Near the beginning when he first hooks to the plow his clutch is slipping so he throws some dirt in there for some grip, looks like it did the trick. This was at the spring steam-up show ran by Rough and Tumble in Kinzers, PA.

My grandfather actually got one, no he is using her at his fields and he said it's better than most small and medium sized tractors just a full tank of water, some premium quality firewood and done

wow! I remember as a kid, early 60s, going to a steam tractor show somewhere near Dillsburg with my dad and uncle who lived in Hanover, these things to a kid were real monsters

Amazing the amount of power she has. Pulling that plow is no easy job. Unlike tractors today these old girls had unlimited uses from pulling to powering anything you could hook up to them.

It's a lot better than horses doing it but it still is a lot of work. It's not like the tractors like we have today with the air conditioning and such, you were out in the heat driving this massive machine. One of those tractors weighs about 13 tons roughly. But that one look a little under 13 tons.

I know, my family had a 60hp case new, I just wondered what this one was. Its an odd one, early feed water heater, but canopy supports are bolted to the tender.

I'm not talking about the actual hp or torque but the size of the engine, ie what model it is. case built 30hp, 45hp, 60, 75 and 110hp, later they changed to 50hp 65hp and 80hp. In very hard clay ground we could only pull a 6 bottom with a 60hp size, i think the 60hp is a 10 x10 bore and stroke.

HERPY DERPEDY It's because it's a steam traction engine (ancestors of the modern tractor). Thousands where made during the 18th - 19th century. They have many videos here in YT aswell.

What's that rolling chain towards the front of the plow?

+Kyle Kenan it runs off of a steel wheel on the ground and when they pull the lever it engages with a ring and pinion and that's what lowers and raises the plow. Only the blades move the rest of the plow stays at the same spot. If you watch some other videos in the playlist you can see it work.
