Not that far from Medford and just north of the California border in Southern Oregon is the incredible town of Ashland: Home to the amazing Oregon Shakespeare Festival. This is a place we visit whenever we get a chance. Featuring several live theater stages, the festival runs six days a week, nine months of the year and is considered one of the top five live theaters in America. In this video, see what Ashland has done to become a premier must-visit destination! Perhaps we'll see you there!

When I was in SOASTC in the early-mid 90's in Grants Pass, we used to go down to Ashland to see plays twice a year, one was a Shakespeareian. That was late in the year we saw the Shakespearian one. It was really interesting, the top of the game of life really. I'm not so sure it's like it was though now.

ALSO - The City of Ashland has struggled financially in the past few years due to its *reliance* on OSF as its major economic contributor. The festival is in trouble and has had to cut back significantly,

Covid dealt them a major blow. I hope they recover!

@@DestinationDevelopment Not just Covid. OSF went really "woke" in 2020 and people stopped supporting it. Many, many complaints.

Fascinating... this was recorded in 2015?? Lockdowns, masks and vax passports have killed not only the Shakespeare Festival but the once thriving restaurants (72 of them) and boutique stores. It's really sad. It's still an amazing place to live if you focus on the natural beauty and local farms and community.

By "Killed" you mean all the amazing restaurants that have opened up in the last 12 months, and the 10 plays they are doing on 2024, along with the Cabaret basically selling out year round. Nearly every single town under 25k would KILL for all that...

@nathanielpaul1992 he's right it's surviving but the recession we're all in is slowly shutting restaurants and boutiques down for good. Before you know it, it will be just realty firms and banks downtown ashland.. already watching it occur before my very eyes since the shutdown.

If OSF doesnt recover asap.. Downtown Ashland is doomed.

As a “deep blue” city driven by progressive politics, Ashland has a growing homeless problem and tends to coddle and encourage them in their drug addiction and antisocial behavior.

Yep. Sad to see but seems to be pretty common in arts-driven and university economies like Ashland.

Yep, "Deep Red" spots, like say the South, boy are they doing great. Top notch education, low poverty, hardly any drug use, low gun violence 👍 Checking notes... Oh. Wait. None of that is correct. 😂😂😂 The "Deeper Red" a place is, the WORSE those statistics are. Huh, weird. It's almost like the things they say on Right Wing radio are pure fiction meant to entertain than inform. Huh. That's for educating us 👍

Every 3rd person walking down the street or in the grocery store is some bloated, pale, unhealthy looking blue haired non binary bozo, or some wacked out lost soul hippie who just floats around all day like a ghost. Ashland is definitely not what it used to be
