Training to be a pilot. My CA-53W's band broke recently, so I needed an upgrade. Needed a backlight, but I realized I would need both hands to activate the light, which wouldn't work too well. Autolight will work prefectly. Also, the phone book will help greatly for keeping phone numbers for ground stations. The calculator and currency exchange are excellent for financial use. Also, the dual time is great for zulu time, the international time zone for aviation. This video is what got me sold!
+DandruffCat WOW this watch seems PERFECT for all your needs, it's great when someone actually uses all the functions a watch offers. Good luck at you pilot training, I applied for a combat pilot with my air force after highschool, but u didn't pass the medical, my eyes where the cause for a fail to pass the test :(
This watch saved me one day. Because of cell phones, I don't know many phone numbers, I just touch people's names or tell my phone to call someone. My cell phone died and I had no way of finding my wife at Six Flags. Thankfully I borrowed someone else's phone and looked up my wife on my watch. Boom. Love this watch. I wish they still made this watch with the schedule function and EL backlight.
I agree, it's pretty sad that these newer repros don't have as many features as the previous generations. Would love the schedulers or extended databank features.
Yeah, me too!! Phone died and could not remember my friends number. BUT BUT BUT, i remembered that i had his number in my watch and borrowed my sons phone. Super ‘save your ass’ watch, IF you wear it😂😂

Many years ago when I was a young boy. I hated doing math exams because I was really bad at it. But I was a specialist in cheating. So one day i had a idea. What if I could find a watch with a calculator. That I could hide and use during exam. So I typed calculator watch on google and suddenly it came up. It felt like I found the holy grail. Out of nothing I see this watch and I became a true fan of Casio. Thank you Casio you helped me pass my school with my master scheme. I really mean it, thank you.
Had the DBC-610 in 5th grade and absolutely loved it especially storing my friends phone numbers and thinking I could cheat math calculations in class. Just got the DBC-611 as a work gift exchange and boy did it bring back memories, I freaking love this watch. Thank you for such an in depth tutorial...
By the way the reason why mute function. Is at calculator mode is that's where you will make most of the sound with the keys as you use the calculator...so you turn it on or off when you use the calculator
I got one of these back in 1984 (DBC 600) and I just found a reproduction this week. I LOVED this watch so much when I bought one as a 19 yr old during the early eighties. I ran that thing to death having it rebuilt three times up to the late 80's. I'm so glad I found one on eBay even if it is a repro... :)
It was one of my first smart watches. I had another with a calculator in 1982, which was round and had the buttons in a circle around the screen... I loved those watches, this was by far my favourite. I saw it a while back in a shop here. But nowadays I use a huawei sports watch, which is pretty cool too.
You can have more than one watch at a time. Go for it, you will like choosing a different watch by your mood for that day. Agreed, Huawei is a good choice :)
I spent my chilldhood in the latest 70 and esrliest 80 and i grew up watching pieces like this in scifi movies. When you see this watch your imagination flies to that incredible movies from the eighties and seventies where you could see watches like this.Back to the future,TRON,LOGANS RUN,BATTLESTAR GALACTICA etc. These watches are called vintage, but i call them inmortals because they tracend the time.
I remember watches like this from my childhood days, such good memories! The background light is just how it was when I had one...strongest on the side. This is a cool retro look and whole lot less in cost than JLC's Amvox. This would make a nice vintage Fathers Day gift!
Mine just came in. Nice vintage box. You have a good knowledge of this one. I have pictures of myself with one exact the same in 1988. Had it for almost a decade. While on the wrist is even easier to punch the buttons because you use your pointer finger to press. Thumb for left side buttons.
The only time you absolutely need, because it’s so helpful, is when you are using the keypad for numbers. Makes sense to me. You are brilliant though. I love your videos. They have helped with a couple of time pieces.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I'm a guy who loves tech gadgets such as smartphones and smart watches but I had to look up your tutorial on how to change this watch from pm to am 🤣
I get mine 4 years later... hah! This is still the best online tutorial for setup (any Casio!) and super happy to finally get this on my wrist and feeling like a proper NASA intern
I bought that in the late 80s, looked pretty cool and was quite expensive back then. It was really useful watch because not everybody of my friends had their phone number in the public phonebook, and I have bad number memory. Number pad eventually broke because accidental acetone splash at the work :)
+YPO6 yup they were pretty high tech back then! Great to hear from someone who had the originals when they were actually functional with their databank function :)
I bought this watch a few months ago. This one is amazing. One day, It is washed with other clothes at Laundry machine by my mistake. But It still works well. Thumbs up! From South Korea Dude
I'm about to buy the golden one, I've always wanted to buy it, but for one or another things/situations I didn't. After bought this golden dbc611 I'll go for a silver dbc32. Thanks for the tutorial.
Got this a year ago and didn't know anything like I couldn't even figure out dual time and the phone book thing but besides that the time worked well but this vid did help alot
I had the original in black in the 80's and I'm a bit disappointed that Casio didn't include a timer function on this re-issue. The multifunction alarm is nice but the original had instead something much cooler called schedules which would be displayed between the lines at the top for each day of the week for 2 weeks and you could give each schedule a text title. They just don't make them like they used to...
Me too. I had one like 30 years ago as a kid. The black one. I still remember the order of all menu items, tel sched, cal, wt, alarm timer. Is there a black one available today?
The coolest retro watch I have, or has been in production recently. I owned the original. This is as near to perfect as makes no difference. The keypad is exact. It's totally unique
Nice vid. FYI, I just got the Casio G2900F, and it actually has an even more advanced alarm function than this one: In addition to all the modes on the DBC 611, you can also add text to each alarm, which is VERY useful. The G2900F also has password protected 40 entry databank, 10 year battery, auto EL-light, mineral crystal, the most legible G-shock LCD display and 200m WR. Very underrated given the low asking price.
I had many casio databank watches while I was growing up and I can absolutely attest to their quality. Even though I have a smart watch today, I still want one.
@@eazywisdom5904 drive.google.com/file/d/1rsZwBoNr8SrMNHcC3UlmlaGk4bRifXeL/view?usp=drivesdk *It is not as bright as on the picture, but definitely bright enough to be readable.* Edit: (I have the gold version)
The CA53W calculator watch also has the beep on/off in calculator mode. Now I think that's another cool bond they share... Besides being calculators. 😬 Awesome video.
You could also use the data bank to enter birthdates or something to could you not? Also I like the idea of storing phone numbers on this for when you loose or break your phone. Nobody remembers phone numbers anymore thanks to smart phones.
Received mine yesterday and it's lighter and smaller than I remember from the watch I had in the '80s it feels like it's only a few grams in weight or maybe it's because I'm used to wearing heavy 40 to 40,5mm watches... anyway not wat I expected or remembered from back in the day
Unfortunately, the watch listed in the amazon-link in the description, is not identical to the one shown in the video. The one in the video is the chromed "silver"-version of this watch, while the one in the Amazon-link is the "silver tone" version, which has a matte, silver-painted plastic look. Ask me how I know. :(
i do not think you can purchase the older chrome variants maybe wrong worth researching....i was hoping mine was chrome finished but tbh it does blend in fully with bracelet...
i Might add to this video that ive recently purchased this piece to my vintage collection and mine is a Matt finish not chrome style finish so not sure if theyve changed the look of the newer made versions...Mine is exactly the same as the dbc 32 housing ? Would of much prefered the chrome finish than the matt look but does now blend in with its Matt looking bracelet...
You might want to mention in the description that this is the DBC 611E-1EF model (you can see 611E on the back @ 6:04). The one sold on Amazon (USA) is the DBC 611 which doesn't have the stainless steel front case, but a chrome plated plastic one. Amazon (UK) has the model shown in the video, which I think looks much better! Cheers!
You forgot about the auto light feature where you push and hold the light button for 3 seconds from the main time screen!!! When you activate that it will turn the light on automatically when you turn your watch up to look at it!!!! You'll see "LT" on your screen in the upper right!!! Love my casio 611! :)
Question: If Casio don't sell the Databank on their website and official Casio stockists don't sell it, are the 100s for sale on Amazon genuine or fakes?
I ordered one on other website and it should get delivered today...I had this watch when I was about 14-15 years and I'm 55 now and I'm as exited as I was back in the day....can't wait for the delivery guy ringing the doorbell 😅 the only minor thing the original one's were full metal ,apparently the bezel on the remakes is resin material instead of metal
I’m so excited getting this watch but when i followed the instruction to set it to 12 hour the =pm button is not working. Does bit even make a sound at all when you click it but the other buttons do make a sound. So sad. I will have to replace it I guess.
Lots of things can go wrong medically. Your muscles can apostrophe, you can get semi colon cancer, you can suffer from an ellipsis fit. But I couldn't imagine anything worse than being in a comma.
Anyone know if you can get larger bracelets for these watches? I got 8.5" wrists and I doubt the metal ntacelet will fit my wrist and the pins look iff to take a one pass strap.
This watch displays a battery indicator when it's time to change the battery. The times before full deployment vary from watch to watch (or rather battery to battery) that's why you should get a replacement as soon as you see the battery symbol. This Casio DataBank has exactly 5 minutes of additional life time with it's battery removed (or completly discharged) - for that period all the settings and data stay safely stored giving you enough time to install a new battery. Not to worry though :) I bought mine in 2015 and still haven't had to perform this operation, I just really geeked out on the instructions manual one day.
