The metal strap, if the buckle opens, can drop off. This resin strap is more secure. But the resin strap ages and can break. The metal strap can be used "forever".
I recently bought both of them. First the F91W then the A158W after a week. I love them! I usually wear the F91W when at home, the A158W when at the office.
From someone who customises Casio’s I can tell you the quality of F91W is far superior. To cut costs A158 uses cheap materials to keep production costs down. The acrylic used on the screen in the A158W scratches really really easy.
Good comparison, I recently got myself an A158W. I tried both and it just felt better: it was more comfortable to me and I felt like it suited me better than the F-91W. But both are great of course!
@@129gb2I have had my Casio A158W for over 12 years and it’s still going strong on the same battery. I own over 10 Casio watches ranging from the f91 up to a couple of G Shocks and the A158w is by far my favourite, it looks retro and is extremely comfortable on my wrist and last but not least it’s the best bang for the buck.
I've got both, they are great watches, the F-91 is my work watch, the A-158 is my casual everyday watch, they both are supposed to be mildly water resistant watches, not recommended for water sports, but I have done lots of swimming with both of them in fresh water lakes. Although they are not marked on the cases, the water resistance of these Casio watches are around 30M, there are no push button seals, but the extremely tight fit between the pushers and the case, makes it virtual impossible for water to enter, at minimal depths, or swimming motion, Casio incorporates tight clearances to prevent water egress, through the principle of surface tension, the back screw down case has an o-ring seal, which is very reliable, and allows above average resistance to casual water activities...The only thing that can cause water egress, is pressing the buttons under water, or a warm shower, or bath, most watches can't deal with warm or hot water, unless it has exceptionally heavy cases, and double seals like a Casio G-shock. The gold version is next on my list to buy, but they cost considerably more, I did cheap out and buy a Chinese brand gold watch called a Skmei fashioned to look identical to the casio original gold watch, it's actually a fantastic watch, the fit, finish and durability has been outstanding for the price, but I still want a Casio at some point.
F91 all day everyday, love this watch. I use it for everything. Works perfect, looks perfect! I got 3 actually just because its cheap af. 1 silver, and 2 blacks. Another one I love is the CA53, such a cool watch everyone thinks it's a modern smartwatch 🙂🤣😂
Thanks for the comparison. I have both of these watches, and also the A700W. I prefer the look of the A700W over the A158, plus the A700W has a much better backlight at the slight expense of contrast. The F91 however does not fit my wrist (8") properly as the end of the strap comes out of the keeper all day. The clasping system of the 158/700 means that it is secure even the bracelet length is the same. The 158 isn't too bad for pinching hairs, however the A700 is considerably worse.
Thats me rn. I want the g shock metal ($500) but with a 5600 and a metal bezel attachment + steel bracelet I can get it for under $100 watch + metal attachments.
Jim - I agree. The strap is slightly more comfortable on the F91 until it gets brittle after a few years and cracks or breaks. The metal strap on the A158 lasts and lasts.
I put my F91W on a NATO strap after the original crapped out. I treat it mean and feed it my old car remote batteries. It’s over 20 years old and still rocking.
I have an F-91W and, although my wrist is not very small, I love the watch! When it arrived from amazon, I found a very small watch (almost ridiculously small!) but it grew on me, and now I just love the watch! I haven't decided on buying an A158 yet...
@Alex Sandoval Mine has 1 or 2 very small and almost invisible (only in a certain inclination I'm able to spot them...) light scratches on the case. I have it since the beginning of July/2019, and since then it's been my home and weekend watch (it's now my quarantine watch...). It's the only watch I use whenever I work in the garden or backyard, moan the lawn, chop tree branches, etc. So far, it's just fine, almost as new. I keep on loving this little watch, and I don't think I really need any rougher watch to do any of the manual work that I do, like a G-Shock or something like that.
I have the F91W, F91WM-9a in gold, A158-W, A158-WE. All are virtually identical in function and design for the case. Only difference is the colors for each of the watches. Then, the differences are between the bands where the F91W are resin while the A158 is stainless steel band. I find the band for the A158 kind of cheap and too flexible. So it slides on your wrist a lot. Of all the watches I like the F91WM in gold the most. Each of the watches hold up extremely well and hold battery charge forever. Really nice video. Thanks for the summary. Andrew
The thing about these watches is the amazing accuracy. I have both the A158W and the F-91W and they run about +/- 10 secs per month depending on conditions.
I ordered both and I love them! I watched your videos so many times, thanks! Really helped me making decision and to look at them while they where on their way :p wanted the a158 first but actually really like the f91 aswell, so comfortable and the scratches are not going to be that visible :) Probably will own some more casio's in the future!
Ive bought the 158WA and returned it as I found the dail smaller for my wrist and also for its poor backlight, on the other hand 168WA the slightly bigger dail suits for my hand, superior back light display lol
The F-91 is so comfortable I wear it to bed often. It’s easily the most comfortable watch I’ve ever worn. It is also the most accurate. I’m seeing around a second a month lost.
Unless a person is going for a collection of a specific Casio series, I would skip both of these and get the A168WA-1. The EL backlight is far superior to the weak sidelight on these two models. The A168WA-1 also has drilled lugs for easier strap changes. Another option is the A178WA-1A (Dual Time) with its larger display and newer 4 pusher design. At least there should be no buyer’s remorse with any of these under $20 watches. You just might need to purchase more watch cases. Be forewarned, I started with just a couple of Casios. Now, I have over two dozen, with no end in sight.
I now knew why you have been uploading videos for a long period .you have been looking for making your studio far better.l like this video far better than other videos
Got both, F91W which was made in Malaysia, it's off serval second every day. The accuracy almost like a mechnical watch. After just three weeks it was few minutes off the real time. I had watching all the video recommand this watch. They all have "this watch actually quite accurate" statenments. I don't know what's my case here. Perhaps where the place it made really matter? (I am sure I got the authentic one by research and disassamble) On the other hand, the A158 is much better case, it's still not that accurate, but is within acceptable range. I also got the A159w, which is same as A158 (also difference in watch band) but was made in Japan, not surprise, it's the most accurate of this three. I don't recommand buying a F91w as a serious watch. Unless you can make sure it was made in China or Thailand, as most the reviews video have the watch made from this two place. Also, just added another 20 dollars to buy some upgrade Casio serious, their performance is much much better. My ae-2000 is only few seconds off per month and it's running on a 10 year battery for its 10th year. Only 20 dollors difference with much better performance , more duriable(also 200M water resister) with a tons extra functions.
i´m a really fan of the f91 if i could i would buy both but here in brazil they cost 1/3 of the minimum wage, so here its such a expensive watch skskskkskssk
I did torture tests on my channel with the F91W and that is one tough watch! You won’t believe the tortures I put it through including throwing out a car window driving, torching it, boiling it, and of course the BB gun to name a few tortures.
Really nice video. Really excellent research and presentation. I just compared the f91 with the a168 which has slightly different sharpness in the display because one uses EL backlight while the other is LED. LED looks a little sharper to me. Anyway, I'm going to subscribe and learn from your channel I think!
the sweats from your wrists is actually the one damaging the strap. to make the strap last long. always clean the strap after you take it off. especially when your wrist is sweaty.
The 158 for me, because of its steel band. I bought a Casio analog watch several years ago that came with a plastic band. I only wore it a few days a month. But after a few years of that light use, the band failed; started coming apart. A friend who bought the same watch had the same experience. Band replacement cost about what the complete watch cost. So, no Casios for me with plastic bands.
Ben, I'd like to thank you so very much. I watched this video a week+ago and now have 3 vintage/classic Casio's (a158😍,a700 thin and the a168 electro lumi with 7 more on the way, a few are discontinued😱. Thanks again -🍻💙🇱🇷
i have the f91w with silver case and monochrome writings. i wear this instead of swatch watches that i used to wear. cheaper but equally comfortable. the silver coloured case makes it appear bigger visually than its actual size. i also have the a168. if you set the bracelet correctly, it won't pinch your armhair. love the illuminator, and generally the watch is super comfortable.. i have an 8inch/18cm wrist but i can get away with both of these small watches. shame i no longer want to wear my Orient Mako 2, regardless of the superior quality. i'm not worried to scratch or ruin my casios, but i'm always unsettled when i have my 200 pound watches.
Good day, may I ask you how long lasting the silver finish is please and how it holds up to scratches, I have the 2 watches in this video and I am seriously considering getting the F91w with the silver case that you mention. Thank you
My resin band lasted about 1 year. Not sure how long the clock had been standing in a window in the mediterranean store I bought it in tho so that might have been why.
The bands are not good, they degrade over time but there is tons of videos on the internet on how to swap it for something else so if you like the watch but don’t like the strap that’s a possibility
For me it's always been really simple. Ever since I can remember my father wore an A158W. When I was in elementary school he got me a F91W which I wore till about the end of middle school. In my head I will always be a F91W guy till I become a father. For me it's like you don't earn the right to wear an A158W unless you have a kid who can wear the other one
Get the A159w, spend the extra $9 trust me its worth it. Better quality and style band and made in japan vs china a158w. Also get the f91w for work, i mean come on its like $13 just buy both ;)
I love these watches, BEST watch for me! and also BE careful! there are many fake F91w&A158w, authentic watches are very accurate and comfortable, fake watches are NOT
The best watch I ever have is the casio f91w and in my opinion it's cool definitely not bad (even tho it's not time accurate and every single day I have to set up the time ) but still cool
If the "Metal" case was actually stainless steel then it would be no contest. But it isn't so it is not any more resistant to scratches than the black plastic. Given the cost, just go for whichever ever one you like the best. Given the cost, buy both ! Hopefully the one you get is more accurate than mine which is 35 seconds fast after a month...
Good stuff.Although not a digital fan these days, if Casio were the only watch company in the world I would be happy.Great analogues in all guises that are very here and now and cool.Being in my 50,s I still try and do cool!?!? Casio wins.OK me trying to pretend I am 20 doesn't win but who cares!? Cheers.Len.
@jake the device I'm using to comment was for free, my last meal is worth about 1€, my last haircut was 2 months ago and was 10€. I could somehow come up with enough money to buy one of these, but from what I have rn, I wouldn't be able to just spend 10€.
@Alex Sandoval you will love it! At first it's just gonna be like "oh yeah a watch" but as time continues you will love it more and more because of its features and the durability.
The A158 is more premium and beautiful, however the F-91w is a genuine 80s watch style, retro and quite ugly ahah. I prefere the F-91w because the resin strap is much more comfortable and metal strap of the A158 is more "hard" and makes marks on my harm. Two awesome retro cool casio's!!!
In my opinion on my field f 91 fit on me because it a non conductive material and slim cause im working on high voltage and some repair work. A168 is a versatile watch can be paired on casual outfit and suit. The bracelet is a steel which is not advisable with my field
Hello Ben, I’ve just bought a F91W for £8.50 - I was shocked (pleasantly) at just how small it is and how light it is. I’ve now got approximately 30 watches of which 7 are Casio and I have to say I’m hooked on the Casio brand. I’m thinking of swapping the strap for a NATO one. What do you think? I’m now looking for a square multiband6 solar watch - I can’t afford the Bluetooth version 😢. Love your channel and down to earth, honest reviews. I have subscribed. Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K. stay safe and well.
