What a rugged watch! Built tough! Love this b/c it's a "set and forget" type of watch and once it's on your wrist, you're not afraid of bumping it or anything like that. Gotta love 'em!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. I love that you have 3 choices on these now. Analog with ability to set everything by your phone, digital with solar and depth sensor, and a simple digital soldier which more than 10 years later is still relevant and keeps chugging along.
You’re the first my friend to review this... pictures don’t do it justice... I’m liking the digital more, but can see the attraction for this, as at the end of the day it’s tested to be 200 meters and beyond, so a good reinsurance right there! You covered loads in such a short time including comparisons... I like that you’re a right sider like me, and only the same size... really good to see it through a review... will post this on my community page with a link... cheers for sharing a great first review of it ;)
Thank you so much. I have to see how you do that and return that, you are the RangeMAN!! I think the App working with any of these watches creates a whole different experience in usability where the choices narrow in regards to Analog and Digital.
@@DougFNJ On your home channel page select your profile picture which is at the top left of the page (this indicates which gmail you're log into) from the dropdown menu select 'RU-vid Studio' Now select 'Settings' from the list on the right side of the screen. I have been impressed with the Connect app from the start. This was another great option Casio put out, unfortunately I have read it is now discontinued. Wondering what is next for the Frogman line.
Good review! it’s a shame I can’t see more positive reviews of this watch, mostly people criticizing the watch negatively :/ I truly think it’s a fantastic watch. It may not be digital like the previous versions, but most true dive watches are analog such as Rolex, Omega, and even Seiko divers. The analog construction with carbon fiber and Bluetooth technology are great welcome features. I have the blue version of this watch and although I’m not a diver, I couldn’t be more than happy with it.
I think the biggest criticism is the lack of depth sensor after they added it to the last section. People really liked that. I personally liked that they put this out, more options is not necessarily a bad thing.
Doug my GWF-A1000-1A2ER arrived today Sir, wow pictures do the watch no justice. I'm bowled over with it, its beautiful and as with the Rangeman and Mudmaster the Mobile app just makes the watch very very easy to set up and use. Also, thankfully, the watch can also be used without a Mobile for people who don't have one. Stunning watch, I cant stop looking at it.
Great!!! I think many fans of Frogman watches will be a big fan of this watch if they are ok with analog. Really happy you like it! The apps definitely do make these so much easier to use and work with, and they work so well.
Oh I wish I hadn't seen this video, Doug. Brilliant presentation as always... only downside is now there's yet another G-Shock I can't live without! )))
SO SWEET. Love this one...and I didn't think I was going to like an Analog Frog. Those yellow accents are PERFECT! Thanks Doug for another great review.
Casio G-Shocks and Pro Treks are just in a league of their own at the minute. Awesome stuff. Great review as always Doug. It surprised me actually as G-Shock just posted this watch in my Facebook feed saying 'coming soon', then I see your review and I think, damn lucky ***** getting it early ;-)
Got my black version of this earlier in the week. The app is available now as of 6/17 so go take a look for it. Loving the analog direction this one has gone in. Gives it a more robust look and feel IMO.
For as long as i remember, I didn't think G-Shock as a high quality watch and I mostly had Seiko Coutura's as my watch of choice. I had two very nice, grest looking watch. Then I started eyeballing the Master Of G watches. The barometer was key for me as well as solar and atomic timekeeping. When i seen the price tag i knew my thinking was either off or these are some good watches. Long story short i went with the Mudmaster GWG-2000. It was a close call with that or this. This is one great looking, highly functional watch. To me worth it.
Most collectors I know have at least one G-Shock, nothing beats the quality and durability of G-Shocks for what they are. The thing I’ve always loved about them is the wide appeal and versatility. Enjoy!
I bought the blue strap version. I like the stainless bezel and the yellow arrow in the mode dial. I don't even dive. But i like the tide function for fishing. It's a great looking watch too.
I couldn’t wait to get the first analog frogman. I got the black with yellow highlights and it is awesome! Need to see it in person because all the videos and pictures don’t do it justice. It is stellar looking and engineered well. love the carbon monocoque against the wrist. Super cars use it and helps with the structural system. In the frogman it helps with keeping moisture and dust from entering, especially with fluctuations in temperature, and humidity. It also lowers water absorption coefficient, thus allowing for more reliable water resistance and case strength at great depth. It’s basically an external skin. Along with the fluoroelastomer band, It is the most comfortable frogman to date. Weight distribution is perfect. The features on this model are minimalist at best, and I like that. Just need a basic dive watch to tell the time, day and date, dive mode, tide info, stopwatch, timer, world time, tough solar, and an alarm. Needs to have atomic time, which this frogman has and iso rated. Also the screw down crown with the six small indent holes, is designed similar to a depth meter. The led light and lume are good enough for visibility at night. I think this analog frogman will eventually be sought after in the future, will be highly collectible and eventually, appreciated. I know I will!
Thank you for your well written thoughts on this watch. I think those who have been getting it appreciate it for what it is. I think you are right, the more people who get their hands on this in the wild and show it off, the more popular its going to get.
Nicer than I was expecting TBH will probably get one as I have 4 of the previous Froggies. A bit of me says I'll still prefer my digital frogs however I can't deny the way the hands move about between modes is quite appealing. Also the back of the mono case looks nicely finished and I bet in the flesh the whole watch has a crisp high quality look to it.
The Monocoque is great. Less possibility of issues. The band is one of the best, and I hope Casio continues in that direction. I think many are pleasantly surprised with the final product vs leaks and rumors.
Brilliant video Doug. I'll be getting the Blue version once it lands over here in England. I love both my GWF-1000 & GWF-D1000 Frogman watches and this new one will complement them perfectly.
Great and thorough review brother. Your review just helped me NOT to buy this latest Frogman though. Displaying all of this digital information in analog form is just way too confusing, hard to read and hard to figure out. I think I echo a lot of people's thoughts when they say a Frogman is meant to be digital. Again, fantastic review for those that are looking to buy this though.
Thank you for watching and the feedback! Thats why I like to Gove as much info as possible in these reviews. Give more info to those that want it, and let those who are on the fence see it and decide yay or nay. I really enjoy your channel too by the way! So much so, I put it in recommended :). Thanks again!
Excellent video! I have the GPS Rangeman and it is massive. This watch looks like it is absolutely HUGE too. For the price and size I will pass, but still interesting. I hope Casio starts making these much smaller. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Patrick! Its slightly smaller than the Rangeman, and in my optinion with the asymmetrical design, wears a little better. These aren't for everybody though, previous digital versions are smaller.
@@DougFNJ Hi Doug, yes I have a GF-8250 digital Frogman that I like. It is still big for me, but it is well built. I would really like to see Casio release a 42-40mm fully analog Frogman. Do you think this might happen one day?
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. I look at these almost as digital watches with an analog dial, they have so much more function than a typical analog. Its just another choice out of so many Frogman choices.
Thanks Doug, I plan to have one coming my way soon to review on my channel also. I'm a big G-Shock fan and was really surprised to see this when it was announced. I love the digital Frogman so will be intrigued whether this lives up to expectations in the long term. Thank you very much for the video.
Nothing beats the feeling of kicking down a door with a G36K with a frogman strapped to your wrist. Got the GWF1000 1JF. Will be buying this. Man i laught when the boys take the piss out of my watch I allways say its a frogman thing.
Came over from WatchUp69 Mr. Rangeman’s recommendation. Subbed. Thanks for the review! I really like the design of this Frogman, I’m not sure I could wear it on my 6.5in wrists though!
Thank you!!! It’s all personal preference. If you could pull off a Rangeman, you could definitely pull this off. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subbing 😬👍
thanks for the video,it really delivers real feeling about this new forgman.i do not know why they removed depth gauge from the 6th generation.it is so essential as a dive watch i think(tide is really for surfers i think).think about the way you use it:scuba with a dive computer and a watch with depth gauge as backup is cool.or, free dive with a cool frogman with depth gauge along is perfect. and the dive log function showed in the video i think is kind of unpractical in my perspective. i think the 6th gen frogman will be a classic in the future if the depth meter is not coming back.
Im thinking 2 things....size, and most analogs don't have the depth gauge. I wonder if they will possibly add one in a future version, that seems to be the one thing MANY feel is missing from it.
@@DougFNJ size is definitely a thing to consider.but to have a depth gauge in a analog watch is often expensive.like iwc aquatimer deep 3,favre leuba, oris aquis.this makes the 6th gen frogman the best thing.there are citizen watchs also in the same price rang with depth gauge, but they just do not have that futuristic look.imagine,a dive watch, asymmetry, analog, solar power, plus depth gauge......
Thanks vor this review again. I always like your reviews. I like the design of the new Frogman but I cant understand why ist completely analog. The predecessor has a depthmeter. This was a function that the people have been waiting for. That makes sense.
Casio has been changing things up lately. The lack of depth sensor is a big criticism on this watch, my thought is they had to leave it out due to size and cost. To me, it ultimately gave us another choice of Frogman. Im hoping they come out with a Frogman with the Rangeman/H1000 type display.
Thank you for watching and taking time to comment. Depth gauge seems to be the biggest request, I wonder if Casio would consider putting it in a future model.
It's a good looking watch. But a diver watch needs the depth gauge. I am thinking to get the citizen analog aqualand, with depth gauge when I am going to dive. More functional than my Seiko turtle....thanks for the review
Many thanks for the review! I am thinking about the red model Frog. Just curious a bit about the missing features from digital Frog. Otherwise I like the looking. This came to my mind compare to Gulfmaster GWN Q1000 (quad sensor) which is maybe better deal for that price tag. Hard to decide 😃
The GWN-Q1000 was amazing. No bt connexion but Temp, compass, depth jauge and barometric functions. You have of course a diving log mode. Why Casio discontinued this watch is a mystery.
I'm a believer that if you are a G-Shock collector, a Frogman will always have its place. If you like large Dive watches, this would also fit the bill. Gulfmaster is also a great watch, did you end up making a decision on it?
Im not too concerned with the packaging, Im sure when they do these as limited release special editions, you will get better packaging. Thank you for watching and taking time to comment.
Good review. I was applauding for the last version having a depth meter, that is functional. Why not a depthgauge anymore. Tidemode is rubbish, no diver uses it.
Thank you for watching and taking time to comment. I think it was anticipated that no depth gauge would not make people happy. Any thing I can think is they were concerned with size.
Thanks for your review. Good looking Frogman. Casio could have done a better job on the hand alignment with this particular sample. The minute hand seems to be fast and the hour hand seems to be slow.
You're going to have more than one colourway of the same watch?? (Says the guy who wants to collect multiple full metal squares in steel, gold and titanium.)
Great review! I love the look of the watch.. I was thinking to buy this watch but after reading some of the comments below I am confused ... I am not a regular diver but occasionally do dive (so never bothered to invest in a dive computer) but the moment I looked at this watch I thought maybe this would achieve a bit of both for me. What would you recommend, should I buy this considering that one of the main reason I was buying this watch was for dive?
I don't see why not, Ive been saying all along, if you use any dive watch when diving, this provides the same legibility and time keeping, the module gives you more features. If you want more from a dive watch, the previous version goes 1 step further and offers a depth sensor, but no bluetooth to synch to the phone.
I have a burning red g shock frogman my unboxing video was a bit inaccurate because I saw another video and didn’t look up the facts myself but I love the watch even though I rarely take it out of the box unless I want to charge it
DougFNJ i said it was titanium because of a video by tykomoon x but it wasn’t and I kept rambling on about other things I put it on because of that I made it about 10 years ago
I want this watch. I’m pretty low tech. I use a Luminox for diving now , but as much as I’m about to hit ‘BUY NOW’ .., I have to ask half jokingly… Do you need to be an Astro physicist, or some super genius to figure out how to use all the functions:) or is it pretty simple. Thanks:)
There is a learning curve, the app definitely makes it easier to work with. Like any, once you get those initial settings, everything is second nature.
Both my Frogman 🐸: www.shoppinginjapan.net/gwf-d1000mb-3 And Rangeman : www.shoppinginjapan.net/gw-9430ej-9jr Happy you have it, but is to phone dependent ... having a barometer on the wrist that doesn’t need internet connection is a must, depth meter , dive log and a compass 🧭... priceless
Great review! Good it’s cheaper than the overpriced digital latest Frogman. Would be nice next to my GWF-1000 or my GWG-1000. Still, not going to buy. Maybe later. I have too many watches. So, this year: definitely no new watch.
@@DougFNJ Yeah, there can be, I spend too much on watches too, just yesterday I ordered a green seiko Willard while I have 9 other watches already, emmmm I gotta start to save money........
Those black steel glossy crown is it anti scratch? Please give me info, I'm looking answer for those crown issue, assuming red or blue one will the less scrathcy look, how about the black one?
@@DougFNJ thanks mate. Got confused deciding between those 3 color. Finally I pick blue one. Looks more unique on hands and less scratched compore to black one. Man this analog frogman looks so cool.
For sure if they release a marine blue version it'll be more expensive but nonetheless I'm gonna gun for it since I failed to grab the marine blue gulfmaster
Knock rod, I have never had to change a battery in a Tough Solar G-Shock, analog or digital. Analog actually consumes more battery due to the motor that moves the hands, but these are built to last.
Topper Jewelers very generously sent this watch for me to review at their expense the day it released so I could get this video up quick, in exchange I gave them the promo which I do my best to keep short and sweet. I also put chapter marks in the description so you could skip to the parts that interest you. Thanks for the feedback 😃
I had tried that, unfortunately it didn't look right. Trying to work on transitions that will give close up photos though. I appreciate your viewing and feedback.
Sorry. This analog Frogman does nothing for me. The only good thing is that maybe prices for the digital one will get lower. For now, my Rangeman will have to do. Nice video but do you really have to go thru the documentation?
Thanks for watching and for the comment. This is a love it or hate it watch for sure. I'm not reading through the documentation Ken, just showing what you get in the box.....its over in 3 seconds 😉
Nice, comprehensive review and explanation but as a diver, I’d never buy one as it doesn’t show the basics a diver needs. Also for nearly £1000 you can buy a full dive computer.
As a diver myself, $1000 could get me a very comprehensive dive computer with air integration n such... The gwf d1000 makes more sense with a depth meter but the price is too high.. The a1000 looks nice but I plan to get the gravity master instead for aesthetics reason..
Given all divers use dive computer n watch is just a back up......I still have to say with that busy dial n color combination, it is way too counterproductive for diving.....The quad sensior gulfmaster is already too much but still usable....Casio should really stick with the old frogman formula if they want to keep the heritage of a frogman
Why would they sell a watch that at this point can not connect to iPhone Blue Tooth, that's a big feature that makes this watch cost $800.00, that makes it worth that much and yes I love the other features but all features should work before putting on the market, was never told or saw anywhere where it stated that blue tooth connect was not able to be used on this watch at this point. Having hard time getting it to have correct time as well, my iPhone shows 8:10 and frogman shows 8:17. Anyway Great looking watch with lots of options but not happy that Bluetooth does not work yet and setting correct time is a pain. Reaching out to them once they are open. Sorry for vetting, its just a lot of money for a watch that some features don't work and a pain to get correct time to show.
Thank you for watching and taking time to comment. Vent anytime. I had gotten this watch early, update your connected App and you should see it. I did a review a day later on working with it. I hope that helps.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kLnj7UAvkNw.html
This is one I'm not as disappointed about with on the packaging due to it not being a special edition, and the limited releases will likely carry a higher price tag. This has always been the packaging for the Frogs.
DougFNJ actually I do have a question. What do you feel about a ”diving” watch that doesn't have depth measurement? I mean I know it's the era of computers, and the watch needs to be more about fun rather than real functionalities. But a diving watch w/o depth measurement is still a bit of off-topic, considering it’s price tag is in the same range of some great diving computers.
@@DougFNJ Casio has done some fantastic diving watches over the years, Im still the proud owner and occasional wearer of the titanium plated MD-703. Since many years now we are diving with computers and are using the watch as a reference and backup. However since you never do recriational diving alone the chance that also Your mates DC will fail is slim to none. However its nice to have this little redundency nevertheless. Dive watches come in 2 categoiries, functional and non functional. The GWF-D1000 is a good example of a functional divers watch and is a great divers watch, the GOAT Citizen Aqualand is another. To keep it short, if You strip it down you need 2 things as your bare minimum, dive time and depth. A functional divers watch without a depth meter is like a car without wheels...
@@DougFNJ Dont get me wrong, its a stunner to look at and as a fashion piece or cool looking watch for G-shock fans its a winner! But i would not strap it on for diving...
