I dive and I use one of these. I also have a Garmin Descent which is more like a mini dive computer on your wrist. I've also used old school Seiko divers and a Omega Seamaster from the 80's that was sadly stolen. You'd be surprised what some divers use, still use these days. Of course I'm just a casual diver. If you dive fir a living like a saturation diver you're not gonna be using a watch to begin with unless you can afford to shell out 14k for a watch suitable for that type of diving.

I just ordered the blue one. I am not a diver but a boater and wanted an analog watch with the tide info, solar and bluetooth and atomic time that looked great. I also wanted a premium watch and wasn't heavy so I can wear it in comfort everyday. This watch fits my purposes perfectly. I really like how they executed the dual time since I travel a lot also.

Great review, this G has killer looks, however, its a total failure as a diving watch. Always used my watch as a backup and cross reference to the dive computer. The functions You want redundancy in are depth, heading (compass), temp and dive time. Also when diving You want to get the info at a glance, analog is cool but digital is always better. Looks fantastic but not a serious divers watch.

I can't believe that everyone is freaking out because Casio made an analog Frogman. I consider the analog Frogman a change of pace with a classic watch, because Casio is just remixing colors and attaching celebrity names to the basic models. I'm happy to have the digital and the analog Frogman in my collection.

Yeehaaa! Beautiful review of an awesome watch! When I was younger, 22 years old, I received my Open Water Dive certification, and I grabbed my first dive watch from Casio. I was a Sea World Marine Animal Keeper and did of animal rescues in the ocean with my dive watch back in the early 90's... Awesome times!!! Now that I'm older, 55 years now and very active in the oceans of Florida, I made the purchase of hopefully my last dive watch in honor of the first. I'm a fisherman, scubadiver and outdoorsman and I think this watch would be a perfect fit for my active lifestyle. It should last for another 40+ years, or so on my wrist. Haa! Great review and for a diver who uses this watch, simple is always better when in the mode of diving. Bells and whistles will only destract your focus in the open ocean and this watch is just that... Tide currents, moon phase, current time, count down timer, accention, and depth gauge are all you need to make your dive a success! Everything else is extra and not needed, but ill take it! Analog watches were designed before microdigital watches and are inferior to digital ocean dive watches in my minds-eye. I have well over 7,000 hours diving recorded and I can admittedly say, that for myself, I will always go digital. Period. Simply put, no moving parts... and no magnetic variation above the water, or below the sea's. Its not even a fair comparison. There you go guy's! Thank you again for a great post and I'll see you all on the coast on some ocean somewhere on Earth!

I own two Frogmen. I have the older “Men in rusty black” version and I recently bought the limited edition Gwfa1000xc-1a black version with the orange accents. I dive with all my watches, though I haven’t dove yet with my new one. I am surprised that you can log dive times and surface intervals, but it doesn’t include a depth meter ?? It has a great carbon fiber linked band which is very comfortable to wear. Thanks again for a great review ! 👍🏼

I have a non-dive carbon G-Shock analog and love it. I am a retired pro diver. G-Shock Frogman's are cool but every diver uses a computer now that tracks everything. A watch is redundant and a backup. An analog dive watch should have a rotating bezel for easy down-time tracking. I like the frogman series but don't see a lot of actual diving use for them and every G-Shock I've ever owned and dived has been good to 200 meters in depth.

As non-diver, i like new analog frogman. at the moment it is most fully loaded analog casio watch.And it looks really premium. Of course it leaks many options, that D1000 has. But as an ordinary user, i would never buy digital frogman- because of old type of display. I simply dont like how it looks. Watch body is brutal made, 3d....and flat blackwhite LCD. Despite, new A1000 is very good balanced and designed. Brutal body and deep 3d watch face. Assymetrical strap and assymetrical dials on the face. A top peak of design. In sports i brutally use Garmin Fenix 6x-it has all possible sport features, coloured big display, long battery life. New A1000 is just stylish watch with huge quantity of features for ordinary use. Premium look+ all possible analog watch features is a key of success of this watch. But its just for outdoor and style. Its all about design and style.Not for divers. I would advice Casio to make for example D2000 with bigger, coloured digital display, to save all D1000 options+ add something new, bluetooth, and some additional dive features. But...

I just purchased the gwf-d1000b a couple days ago. I've been lusting after it for years and finally bit the bullet before they get too expensive. Next to the a1000, the d1000b is a much more beautiful watch. I think an analog digital version would've been a cool move for the new Frogman. Having the mode indicator/tide graph indicator as the digital portion would've been a smart move. Maybe in a future iteration they'll do that. I hope they consider it.

No one uses dive watches in tec, which says a lot...For recreational diving, I've seen several high falutin guys wearing seikos, paneris, omegas and rolexes to dives then losing them. Worse is when it costs a bomb, and they get a staff member to jump in to search for it after decompressing. One guy apparently lost a 20k rolex. If I ran a dive operation, I'd ban everything that is not a computer. If anything, it'll be better if they dropped stuff like dive logs off the frogman. If you aren't getting all these info from a dive computer, you're doing it wrong, period. Love the new analog direction its taking though.

And find the Casino Frogman is good were my dives are not as deep as salt water open water (Ocean) especially going in to caves and hard Rock the Casino is fantastic and holds up well against cave walls. Were as my dive computer would damage against rock wall. Most of my cave dives are not as deep and my bottom time is longer. And I enjoy to explore around rock and want that tough G-Shock Protection.

The new Red analog model BLOWS the digital away in looks. That's subjective of course - however - analog is easier to see - could not care less about carbon fiber - its 'gorgeous' on the inside (its not) but no one will see it when you're wearing it lol. For a dedicated diving watch - the lack of depth is a miss - no doubt- however - i would wager that less than 10% of these are the primary diver's tool. The analog red can be had for $500 in June of 2022 and is a beast. Not even a close call.

Casio made a mistake. All they had to do is add Bluetooth and maybe go quad sensor on the D model. If they wanted to blow us away, go Ti screw back case like with squares. Most divers I know use a digital dive computer on there wrist, a watch is secondary, with the back light on the frogman d model, what else do you need? i just bought one. I am not a diver nor am I planning to go diving . i love the look and i feel that the watch is a nod for other analog diving watches out there.(like the submariner for example) If I ever go diving i will appreciate it's features such as better water resistance and under time water. but let's face it . the face of the watch is what most of us fall in love with. the blue tooth will be many times more useful than a depth meter or compass. i rather have my phone always on time and with the ability to sync time if i fly somewhere than the compass or depth meter. Also you don't need a screw back on a solar watch in my opinion. the carbon is probably never going to be opened. If you are a serious diver the digital one is better no doubt,. when under water you need something that relies information easily and accurately like a digital watch so i don't think the analog version is aimed for someone that dives for a living. Besides like someone else mentioned there are diving computers that are much better for this line of work or hobby,

On Casio Japan site, the product page for GWF-D1000B-1JF says, "DLC Coated Case & Back. DLC treatment was applied to the case and back cover to pursue further toughness. The back cover is engraved with a diving frog with a helmet and searchlight." It even shows a picture of the engraving, which looks really different than the back of your D1000B in the video. Looking at mine, the back cover is like yours - isn't engraved with a frog; rather, it's a high quality sticker. Is it engraved underneath the sticker?

This is my concern as to the direction that Casio has taken in recent years as to their watches. Analog is a nice feature and is a throwback to the origins of Dive Watches but a Casio is not a Rolex or Omega. That said as well as my biggest gripes about Negative Display he has a huge point. Casio watches were always sought after because of their rugged design their ease of use and clarity of their display. They have gone trendy over Form and Function and that is a mistake.

I agree with you. I just don't like the look of the analogue Frogman. Honestly, if you put the analogue Frogman on the wrist, it looks like any other generic watch; it doesn't stand out (in a fashion/I want people to gasp and look at my asymmetrical watch when I'm outside). Even if you don't go diving (I don't either) I go to Thailand a few times and do some snorkelling in the sea and let me tell you; you WANT the D1000 on your wrist to look at the time; why? Because it has the automatic light when you swivel your arm as opposed to pressing a button with a light that doesn't light up the whole face (I'm talking about the analogue) whereas the D1000 is backlit and you can see everything on the face. I have Japan Coastguard version and it pops out when I'm outside and notice other G-Shock wearers. Immediately their eyes are drawn to my yellow and black band and they KNOW what I'm about; an urban fake diver. LOL. But still, everyone knows a Frogman even if they think it's ugly as sin and I love it!

Many people think it’s awesome looking and well made…Watches are subjective and nobody needs ANY of them these days with their phones in their pocket or hand all day long…Opinions on what looks cool or doesn’t vary massively from person to person…Why bother writing so much about a watch that isn’t perfect for you? So many people love the look of it and you’re completely wrong….Many owners of these analogue Frogmen write about how fantastic it looks in person and how much more they like them than much more expensive watches they own. And as for your yellow banded digital piece….The black version of this absolutely blows your watch out of the “water”….So many other people would agree with me that these are MUCH better looking, Cooler, classier, more mature and more UNIQUE than your watch lol😂…Totally disagree with your comment about these being generic looking. I loved the video and great comparison. However, how come you didn't show the new Frogman's dive feature of measuring elapsed time, surface time, and dive recordings? And I've been using the new frog as a backup watch for sometime now and I absolutely love it. I read the comments and hear the disappointment of no triple sensors, etc. And personally, I think Casio just trimmed the fat. The depth gauge is nice, but it was only up to 260 feet, and I've dove deeper than that, so it didn't do much for me. I get it, casual diving is nice to have but not a must. Compass, my dive computer does that and I'm not navigating an obstacle course. Thermometer, don't really see the point unless the watch is off your wrist. My Protrek has the same features and I almost never use them hiking. They are fun to have, but not really needed. So I just think they trimmed the fat. But I have both Frogs and love them the same. But really love the analog. Just my thoughts.

Cool story, bro. But for most of us this is passion. I am fully aware that there ARE diving computers, you people can drop the "bUt I/YoU am/are NoT dIvInG wiT it" point. I think I speak the mind for a lot of frog fans in this hobby - we simply love the heavy duty build tech, for the sake of heavy duty build tech. And I might not be a diver but I know redundancy is always a good thing under water, so he might not be your main man, but surely your wing man. This new Frogman was built just for the people with the ""muh notdiving" argument... And they ruined all the fun. Not to mention he is not even digital, again minus points. The A-frog is a good watch, definite buy under retail, but compared to the D- Frog... Not so much. PS: thermometer can be used under water, same way the compass is with positioning compensation, meaning he can work no matter in what position.

@@desireless4092 Actually, funny thing, I noticed a flaw in the analog Frog and sold it. Lol. I just couldn't let that slide. I bought a frogman GWFD1000B-1, and without a doubt, it is a superior watch to the analog. So I do redact a lot of my previous post.

@@Blueeyes2584A I am considering A-Frog for collection purposes for my Frog pound... But he is just so boring and worst - he looks like Edifice EQB-501, not joking, Google it. What was wrong with yours?
@Blueeyes2584A
@Blueeyes2584A 2 года назад
@@desireless4092 I did notice that about the Edifice face, which was kind of a let down. However, what ended the love affair were two features, one of the stop watch and the other in the timer. Outside of those two modes, as the video correctly points out, you can move the hands to see clearly the two subdials. However, in both stopwatch and elapsed time mode, you couldn't. Both utilize the subdial at the 7 o'clock position. So if you're running either function, and the hour and minute hands are in that quadrant, you can't move them out of the way, which defeats the purpose. I feel Casio knew of this problem and still released the watch regardless. But that was enough to end the romance. I sold it soon after. It just bothered me.
@desireless4092
@desireless4092 2 года назад
@@Blueeyes2584A you can't have it either way, since he is analog. If he was ana-digi like GWG-1000 for example, this wasn't going to be an issue. And you might say "but legibility" but you already own the D-Frog and I am sure you are now familiar with its large and easy to read display. Also Seiko's premium SBBN Tuna line are way better analog divers than the A - Frog

Casio tried to go with a traditional analog diver and the idea wasn’t bad. The monocoque case is stronger and Seiko uses a similar design for its legendary Marinemaster. Unfortunately, capturing the essence of classic analog diver and a modern G-Shock are difficult to execute properly. It seems that Casio couldn’t reconcile their design objectives.

This analog also has countdown timer & alarm, plus the chronograph feature. Has day & date. Also, it has tide with app. Can time dives etc.... Then keep a record of them. But the count down timer & alarm features are my favorite. The strap is a new softer type material than carbon fiber. Love the size and thickness. Because of carbon case it is comfortable on the wrist. Mine is on its way to my house 🏠. The color of red is my strap color also. Which I preferred. However I would have been glad to get any color But, regretting a little of I didn't get red.

If you buy the A1000, you can download the G-Shock Bluetooth app that will connect with the watch and within the app, it should state clearly how much battery is left. I don't own A1000 but my GPW-2000 is also Bluetooth connected and that's how I can check my battery level. That aside, you really don't need to worry about battery life from Casio Tough Solar watches; they last a phenomenally long time even if they are at home and placed next to a window. I hope that helps to answer your question.

I'm afraid I might have to disagree with that; I have D1000 and I have GPW 2000 (Gravity master) and I love the analogue on it. I use the Gravity master usually for work and the D1000 in my spare time because the band is yellow and doesn't really go with the clothes I wear at work. There are sensible watches and there are casual watches in my case and both watches serve their purpose perfectly. :)

13:52 carbon core is not stronger than steel, steel is stronger than both carbon-resin and titanium. The benefits of carbon-resin and titanium are their strength to weight ratios, but for the same size watch, steel would be stronger, just heavier.

Nice video! I have had many G shocks over the years, but with one exception I have ditched the brand. Do Casio ever listen to what their customers want? I am under the impression that their engineers want to show us how clever they are, rather than give us what we want. Why don't people with your expertise, ask Casio to talk more to their customers? Moan over, keep up the good work.

I’m a huge fan boy as you can imagine lol... but Casio never listened to their customers. Back in 2014 they went against fan opinion and re-released several models which upset collectors. Huge mistake.... I’m going to play with the new frogman some more and see if I can learn to love it. Right now it’s just a side piece lol
