I have never understood the Quartz hate. It's like criticizing an apple for tasting like an apple. It does what is does with little fuss, great reliability and easy maintenance.
I agree. I find myself grabbing and wearing my quartz watches and the autos go unworn. I'm actually selling off some of my autos. I have a Longines Hydroconquest 39mm quartz I got a huge discount on and love that it is 2mm thinner than the auto version.
@@brocklanders6969 Very True, I tend to just do grab and go when leaving for work in the morning. The quartz watches just allow me do that and I found out that my autos just go unworn some for more than a year.
Agree. People who disdain quartz are the same people who prefer film cameras, vinyl records and printed books. Those have all been eclipsed by superior technology, but they still hold sentimental and artistic value. Which is fine for those people, but I much prefer the accuracy, durability and cost-effectiveness of quartz. And solar-powered quartz is the ultimate.
@@richreecer2552Non-solar quartz has been eclipsed by solar power. I disdain buying batteries and keeping up with watches needing batteries replaced. If one has more than about three watches, it becomes a nuisance. If you are keeping up with batteries for your whole family, it is even worse. Now I only buy solar powered quartz or mechanical automatic watches, and life is better.
I have the T200 in my collection and I am also very happy with it. It is always EXACTLY on time and the perpetual calendar is nice to have for those months with 30 days. It's just an amazingly accurate, elegant and well made watch.
Thanks for answering the question that first hit me when I came across this review (perpetual calendar), although I had a feeling it would be equipped as such, given its "connected" tech. I've been fascinated with the Oceanus line, although my Edifice EQS-A500DB offers enough goodness not to tempt me into yet another purchase. :-)
As someone who never wanted quartz watches, I must admit that there are now many very desirable solar quartz options available. These Oceanus models are beautifully made, very practical, and affordable. Solar tech has removed one of my main dislikes of quartz: battery life. Many quartz watches do not have any indication when the battery is nearly exhausted and I would wonder if the battery would die while away from home. Solar tech has largely removed that fear along with regular required changes. Solar cells do also die, but the intervals are typically VERY long. Having that fear removed, and seeing such well-made watches like this has changed my opinion of quartz. I am definitely considering this very handsome and high value watch.
One quick note: The watch was used when I bought it. It was in great shape, but there may be a handful of scratches on the bracelet from the previous owner. There is also a pretty cool video of the Casio Factory where they make the Oceanus line and the higher-end G-shocks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eB2uCKTFwpk.html
Try washing the watch (it can take it). I run warm low pressure water and put some foaming hand soap on, rub it around, rinse and dry. You be amazed compared to a polish cloth that just smears the grease around. It really brings out the finish on this piece.
I, too, consider the Oceanus to be probably the best watch made. It is well-made, and the functionality is outstanding. It is beautiful, accurate, always correct and reliable. Exceptionally reliable. Exceptionally accurate. Exceptionally beautiful. Exceptionally functional. What watch out there can best the Oceanus? I cannot think of one. I wear a Casio G-Shock GA-1000 A1 and this watch is incredible. Accurate to within ~2 seconds PER YEAR, compass, thermometer, multi time zones, waterproof to 300 feet, drop-proof onto concrete from several feet (I forget), mineral crystal (right for this watch) . I have worn it for three years straight - mountaineering, skiing, swimming, shooting, motorcycling, sleeping, chopping trees down, mountain biking and more. I never remove it except to clean it and to change the batteries (2 batteries - every other year). I tried mechanicals and love the machine work, but hated the built-in inaccuracy of mechanical watches. Plus, mechas are weak. Drop one on the floor off your kitchen counter. Go ahead. Fragile. Quartz is the way to go, and quartz solar is killer. Make it as rugged as the G-Shock and you have the perfect watch. Casio? Rolex killer.
Great to see a non AliExpress watch review. It's a stunning watch that I've had my eye on for a while. I'm more than happy to go into work wearing a watch with Casio on the dial. Think this would be the perfect one watch for someone who wants a stunning well made low maintenance watch. Great review 👍
It's a very cool watch, and I love that it's not a chronograph... For some reason watch RU-vid seems to have decided that the only quartz watches worth looking at are chronographs. I like a clean dial, and a reliable movement. I'm hoping the Marathon Navigator I ordered is as good as I expect it to be.
I agree. I think the reason quartz chronos are so accepted is because mechanical/automatic chronograph are so expensive except the seagull manual wind. Also the seconds subdial is common which makes the tick less jarring and more likely to hit the marks. Wish gmt were more common
I love mine. Recently brought it back to life after it was misplaced in a box for almost two years-- it required several sunlit hours to get it going again. So glad it did!
I once dismissed quartz movements, but I've come to value them, particularly the atomic self-adjusting variety. The convenience of picking up a watch that's already set and ready to use is unparalleled.
I'm glad you got around to reviewing this one Shane. My Oceanus S100 has become my go to watch in a large collection. It is perfect for travel to different time zones and is one of the few cases where the tech works seamlessly to make it easier to use rather than being too complicated.
I have the T 150 and absolutely love it. Same basic watch except no Bluetooth. It is my daily wearer. People do not notice the Casio branding and often ask why I wear a “nice” watch to do physical work. I have to tell them it’s a Casio just like a G Shock with the tough solar movement and it will be ok.
I have this T-200. Gorgeous gorgeous watch! Solar and time synching really make it perfect in every way, already. The design and polish add a sense of luxury no less. Actually when I was deciding which one to buy, I was torn between T-200 and T-100. T-100 seems to have better/features, but the factor that eventually wins over is definitely the design - blue is my favorite, adding the simple layout! Thanks for sharing!
The Oceanus is an awesome watch, I especially love the look of this model. 👏🔥 It is probably the only line od quartz watches that could rival the pricier Citizen Eco-drives with sapphire and radio control.
I've considered the Oceanus line for many, many years (the chronographs); however, I have never bought one. Why? Well....I find that the Casio MT-G and MR-G lines fit my lifestyle better than the Oceanus line. I am sure many out there like the Ocean T200, but it just isn't my thing. Glad you reviewed it as it further informed me of why I've never owned one. Take care.
The Oceanus line watches are hand finished with the Sallaz machine which is the the same machine responsible for what GS calls Zaratzu. They come from the same factory. There are only a few people in the world that are skilled enough to use this machine. Mtgs and MRGs have the same finish as well. If this was advertised the watches would have to be sold for a lot more $.
Zaratsu is just the Japanese pronounciation of Sallaz: Z for S, L and R are notoriously confused by the Japanese, Koreans and prob some other nations in the region, then TS for Z and giving it a mandatory vowel at the end, an U. So obviously it's the same technique, executed to a different level perhaps, but still same. With so much emphasis put on the Zaratsu by Seiko, I'm amazed that what appears to be an old tradition rooted in whatever history (the image they'd like to convey), turns out to be just a Japanese way to pronounce the brand name of the equipment they once procured. Like, imagine some Japanese clothing manufacturer of the late 19th cent. would tell, these items were made using Zingelu technique instead of mentioning the Singer sewing machines. A bit pathetic if you ask me.
Great review of a massively underrated lineup from Casio, Shane.I have the titanium T3000 2AJF, bought over the 'net from Sakura watches in Japan. It is nothing short of spectacular (see Random Rob's review). 80g of perfection!!!! The finishing on this watch is OUTSTANDING, the crystal is to-die-for. The seconds hand hits all the markers, absolutely LOVE this watch.
As quartz watches go it's probably hard to beat. Amazing second hand/marker alignment too. Would love to see one close up. £370 in the UK which will probably deter many prospective buyers unfortunately.
It's nice to see in-depth reviews of quartz watches, especially when they are as gorgeous as this one. I watched a promotional video that outlined the functions of the Oceanus line and they are quite impressive. You are right about the CASIO name on the dial. Oceanus is a great name for the watch, but as soon as I see the prominent CASIO, a whole other image pops into my head. I am not a watch snob, but for a watch that costs over $600 Canadian, that cheap beater watch image sits in the back of your mind and makes you think you should not be paying that much for a CASIO. Then again, some of the G-Shocks are ridiculously priced.
I don't think you are alone. It's the same reason the $100,000 VW Phaeton failed. It was an amazing car, but lots of people thought "Why would I pay that for a VW?"
Shame people think like this. Most likely the reason why Oceanus is JDM only. In my opinion Casio stands for quality and high value for money, whatever the price. I never have any QC issues with them, unlike Seiko for example.
@@RelativeTime That’s more of a western world thing. There is no Acura, Lexus or Infiniti in Japan. It’s just Honda, Toyota and Nissan. I don’t understand why people think a company can’t product a “lower” product along w/ high end. This makes absolutely know sense and is highly flawed thinking.
Great video! I have the SLE mid-blue version that comes on leather straps. After a couple of years of owning a Junghans Max Bill I wanted something more and in this time researching pretty much everything from the usual suspects to microbrands, I would argue the T200 is the best watch one could get for under $3k. Unless shelling out multiple thousands of dollars for something indeed properly made, all the other offerings pale in comparison. Subscribed, great content!
Casio build quality is simply astounding. Everyone hates how on just about every Seiko the second hand (and bezel, if present) don't quite align. Well even on a dirt-cheap Casio Duro, they align perfectly. The Oceanus is a ridiculously good product: build quality is perfect, functionally is perfect, design is pretty unimpeachable too.
Mechanical has its charm, but quartz is where it's at. Especially with the high-end HAQ (high accuracy quartz) models that Japan has engineered. This Casio is perfect, and I would personally opt for a titanium model. My favorite in my collection at the moment is a titanium Citizen Eco-Drive... you just can't beat it for convenience. It's grab and go, with never a concern about battery life. Battery changes or setting the time on a mechanical every time you want to wear it (just for it to be off 5 seconds tomorrow) honestly is pointless when watch technology has evolved. And no, I'm not talking about smart watches.
Awesome review. I haven't had a "dressy" watch in over a decade, and I decided I needed at least one for my wardrobe. (I've always been more of a G-Shock guy.) I picked up the S100 a couple of weeks ago, and I was so thoroughly impressed that I splurged on an OCWS6000-1A for $1,800 from Casio's US website. I could have gotten it cheaper from overseas, but I wanted peace of mind with the warranty. I really love the way it looks. Lume could be better. As I mentioned, it's been a decade since I had a dressy watch, and the last one I had was a fancy automatic. I hated how inaccurate it was and the maintenance and upkeep. I prefer my devices work for me, not the other way around. Casio's Oceanus line makes me happy because it is so high-quality, reasonably priced, and has all the set-it-and-forget-it convenience you could ask for from a quartz movement. The Oceanus fills a gap that too many manufacturers neglect.
Awesome comment, fully agree that it's filling a gap. I actually recently sold this one, but it was only after I ordered one of the s5000. Had it for a few weeks now and love it. Amazingly thin and lightweight, yet with a ton of depth to the dial.
I like the Casio Oceanus line. It’s definitely a step up from the Edifice line. The T200 has an understated elegance and it’s a great looking watch. Fantastic review!
When i first started this "watching" hobby, i didn't even wanna look at Casios 😅😅, because i thought there's nothing cool about quartz and digital watches. But since i introduced myself to Casio A1000 Vintage series, my whole perspective towards this 'watching' hobby changes. I started to appreciate watchmakers hard works to create high quality watches, regardless of how those watches are powered. Only recently I found out that these premium (Oceanus) Casio series does exist 😅😅, and i started to appreciate them, and this review just confirmed that i am actually going to get one of these into my collection. Great review as always Shane! Keep them coming.
i started with automatics and now only look for quartz/solar. Automatics aborb too much money for service and time for setting it up, plus they are inaccurate. But i'm wearing a watch mostly for functionality not for pristige
@@wojciech5177 Exactly! Just like what Shane said in the review "I don't wear a watch to impress other people. I wear it because i like it" 😁😁😁. I wear watches that make me feel good wearing them 😁
I've had an eye on these for a while now. I gravitate more towards the light ice blue dialed version but this one is a looker as well. I like a well executed quartz watch. I think it's easy for most to forget just how much diversity exists in the world of quartz movements. Grand Seiko is a good comparison here, but like you mentioned the Oceanus line tends to offer you a thick slice of higher end Japanese watch making at a "working man's" price point. Thank you for the review.
I've got the ice blue dial one. I put a plum grey Geckota Chedworth strap on it as I prefer leather (suede) to a bracelet and I have to say that to me it looks gorgeous.
I ended up buying this watch after watching this video. I did go the eBay route, and was able to pick a new one up for just under 400. I am exceedingly happy with it.
The watch is a little big for my skinny wrists, but the outstanding photography and presentation of your review is rarely seen on RU-vid. Congratulations, you have a new subscriber. Cheers and thanks a lot!!!!
I'm a mechanical watch guy, but I definitely have a bunch of quartz grab and go watches lying around. And I definitely prefer those to be solar powered as I hate battery changes. This Oceanus is pretty cool and i wasn't aware of this brand, so that's another cool thing I learned from your video..
t200 on the steel bracelet = sports watch. t200 on a quality black alligator leather strap = dress watch t200 on distressed brown leather = everyday casual watch t200 on blue deployant rubber = beach watch that gives the Patek Aquanaut a run for its money.
Nice review Shane. I know it's due to its JDM designation, but there are so few reviews of the Oceanus on RU-vid. I've been considering the Oceanus OCW-S5000D. I think this is their most expensive model, but I can't get over the Edo Kiriko bezel as its so unique and stunning looking. Wish it was sold in Canada, but will eventually find one online and purchase it.
Just visited Sakura's website and they have several dial colors available for this one, all around $380. If someone doesn't already have this kind of watch, this is a terrific value-for-money item to pick up.
Nice to see an in-depth and well done review of this superb watch. I love mine and it's not THAT far short of my GS quartz in finishing. You forgot to mention that it has a perpetual calendar with the date jumping straight to 1 on short months. Also, for travel, it is simplicity itself. Just resync to the phone (20s) and it's done. The seconds hand on mine hits MOST of the indices squarely with just the 20 to 25 seconds area being slightly off. I find that many straps will rub against the case, that gap is quite tight. Thanks for the review. Now watch prices jump as demand goes up. Lol.
I love the snugness of the case though,it eliminates my pet hate...strap gap, meaning I can wear this with my beloved fkm rubber straps with horrible strap gap showing
I prefer my T3000-2AJF. Full titanium and an extra time zone (while keeping T200 traits like the floating indexes and blue dial). That said every Oceanus watch is a worthy purchase.. Excellent features and finishing.
Looks like an awesome watch. A little more expensive I think, and I wish the had a gmt/worldtimer with a few less subdials. A 4 hander seems cleaner to me
I bought this same model Oceanus about 6 weeks ago. It quickly has become my favorite watch. I was concerned that it would be too big for my 7.25” wrist
Hi. Very good video and I like the fact you showed examples of the watch with different straps. Makes me want to switch! So, just to confirm, the correct size strap for this watch is 20mm?
That’s a beautiful watch! I’m not a big quartz fan (other than, say, G-Shocks) but I’ve got a Citizen Eco-Drive BM8180. I have to admit, it’s a great lightweight field watch that’s ready to go anytime I pick it up. There’s something to be said for that!
Hi Shane great channel! What are you wearing on left wrist during intro and wrap-up outro? I am getting back into analog watches and love your reviews but couldn't ID that one. I am a CASIO G and Protrek collector so excited to see the Oceanus review! Keep up the amazing work.
If I remember right, it's a Marine Master homage from uni-dive. I showed it off in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zzMdxm_M-vU.html
This watch for me is perfect, and i realy mean that. You forgot to mention that the second hand hits perfectly. The price is almpst 50% more.I think that only brings cofidence to buy it. Hoewer i have only one problem and tha's the claimed 100m of water resistance.Would you have confidence to go and swim in the pool with this one? I mean can you surface swim with it?After all it's Oceanus wright?Otherwise i've enjoed watching this review as always.Keep moving forward
Very nice watch, agree on the snap on case, but could live with it. Thanks for the Casio factory video Shane, as an engineer I appreciate it! I saw the hands from my GA-700 there!!
I love the watch and the Oceanus line is very good. Casio on the dial may be a deterrent for some, however the JDM exclusivity may make up for it. You can't buy this in your local US mall.
The T 200 is clearly the more beautiful of all different oceanus watches. Did you know that if you hold the button down for five seconds it will also make your phone chime in case you cannot find it.?
Looks nice, although a tad large for a sports watch. Imported from japan to the UK the total cost is about £420, which is a lot for a quartz watch. I could but a quartz Tissot Gentleman for considerably less, and really can't see the Casio being better. Great video as usual
Sorry to Tissot has a cheap $5 movement , the Casio movement is 100 times better, not all quartz movement are equal. The Casio has Radio control, Solar battery, hand Alignment plus many other features such as hitting the second markers at ever marker.
@@johnholkham2420 Tissot use ETA quartz movements, hardly cheap. Open the back up of a watch with an ETA movement, then look what is in the back of a Casio
Hi Shane, I think a good follow up video on these Oceanus models would be, which sites to visit when considering buying one, and yes, I am a fan of the range.
It would be perfect if the lug to lug was shorter. This is at the absolute max to work w/ my 6.5” wrist. I do own one but wish it was a 40mm case w/ a lug to lug closer to 45mm. Other than that it’s pretty much perfect and you get a hell of a lot for your money.
FYI the snap on caseback is deliberate, they havent even put a notch on it so you can remove it,its done so that when it IS time to change the battery you have to send it back to casio so THEY can do it...these watches are built in sealed clean rooms, they dont want anyone but them messing around inside the watch.
There's no issue whatsoever, the idea that a screw down case back is better is Simply a myth. For what it's worth all watch crystals are friction fit as well.
Hi Shane, Nice review , the Oceanus is a superb line of watches, I have the S100 there was no problem getting one from Japan, just remember to factor in custom/import duties, I don't mind Casio on the dial but I can see why some people would, maybe it would be better marketing to just call the line Oceanus. The 2 micro adjusts are a bit mean although on my S100 there are half links which help, but I love my Oceanus and it's a keeper for sure, thanks again ..... stay safe
Good review. I've owned the OCW 100 1AJF for 3/4 years. Negatives first: Clasp - lack of adjustments; Proprietary bracelet- took me trial & error to size it . I gave to wait until Mt wrist gets larger(!) or wear it in the summer when it fits perfectly & the titanium comes into play. I realised I could change the clasp but it will probably have to be stainless steel? I might have been swayed towards the steel version my wrists could handle the lug to lug measurements. The push button I wouldn't trust anywhere near deep water, but I wouldn't do that unless I'm bumped into a hotel pool. The price & custom costs aren't great but the quality is evident. I hope the capacitor still exits when (?) I send it back to Casio for a new one & it's reasonably priced. The hands captivatingly look different depending on the angle & the indexes can dazzle when they catch & reflect the light . The automatic sync to atomic clock is ideal for travel (lmao). I'd rather just have Casio but I'm prepared for any hilarious remarks about 4 consecutive letters on the the Oceanus name (perhaps, I shouldn't have mentioned it? It was pointed out to me). The mini aqua terra Casio Eclipse is a cheaper , less glamorous, alternative but the lume let's it done. It's as gorgeous as my sarb 035 but fulfills a different role.
I don’t understand some peoples obsession w/ those four letters on the dial. They’re probably the same people that think the Quartz logo on a vintage Seiko is a body part.
Well it's the same with pronouncing Uranus. Some people just can't help but giggle... Although I'll take Oceanus name any day of the week over that Crestical watch I reviewed a while ago. That just sounds like ED medication.
The whole line is awesome, so frustrating that it's not easy to get hold of in the UK. Hopefully at some point the world settles down again so I can consider ordering from the other side of the globe.
Sorry but the title is wrong. It is probably the perfect watch period. Though mechanical watches are somewhat fascinating, never again could I live with the hassle of winding, adjusting, servicing a watch, yuck!... Currently I have a solar/bluetooth G-Shock and just love it. Considering purchasing this Oceanus, because the build quality is absolutely stunning. Just today I compared Oceanus with Citizen, Grand seiko, Omega etc... It is really on par with MUCH more expensive watches.
Thanks! I think it's from Barton. I usually have links in the description. Or if you go to my web page I'll have pictures of the watch and straps with links to each. Just head to the bottom of the page. www.relative-time.com/casio-oceanus-t200-the-perfect-quartz-watch
A really nice watch. But if you're looking for the perfected quartz watch, check out the Citizen AS2050-10E. By the way: Check out the Citizen Caliber 0100. It shows what perfection is.
Id love to see a Citizen 0100... price is the only issue with it. It's worth it in the sense there is nothing else like it. But I have a hard time seeing a lot of people buying it. Most people will look at Rolex / Omega first. Which is a pity.
This watch is first on my want list, pity it’s so tricky to see and get. That’s it’s a Casio, means it’s in general unkillable and have no status, which are quality’s I highly seek.
