honestly 4:14 just makes you smile, seeing the guys dancing having a great time, their bandmate trying to play and look at the same time. it's like they joked about doing that move three minutes before the set and were like 'shall we do it?' 'yep lets do it.'
This song was an encore, think about that. The guys had enough energy to be this eccentric after the entire show, and we almost never got this absolute gem if it weren't for the encore.
Probability that such an awesome group, at a live concert with a group of fans who payed to have the exceptional honor to be at this wild performance, would not get an Encore : estimated 00.000% (I just calculated that) (In my head) (With mah big brains man)
The BEST thing in Casiopea is that they're playing music with all their hearts. I can see it through their face expression. All of em are happy doing what they're doing. I salute you!
I was a mere early teenager at that time and too young to go to their concert, but this video brings me flashbacks of the moment I carefully listened to their LP records (not CDs!) Thank you very much for uploading this! ❤️❤️❤️
I feel like the 4:18 dance moves were added at the last minute and the keyboardist is blown away that the madmen actually did it... which in turn causes him to play that much tighter
From 04:19 Minoru Mukaiya’s keyboard performance fascinates fans. Also he is a big fan of trains, and has been successful in railroad related business. One of the station in Japan plays his music when train coming into the station. And he is still the best keyboard player now.
@@ketiltveiten1744 You can hear them on some station, some rail lines. My recommendation is Tozai line subway in Tokyo. When all melody from each station combined, it will be one music from the up line, another one from the down line. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h__RBrJbmks.html
That's pretty much Casiopea's bread and butter though. These elements are what makes them stand out IMO. Their music is a group activity, not a story or an idea.
Literally hearing this for the first time and while I agree the keyboard solo is legendary my jaw hit the floor when the bass started popping off. What are some other must-listens from this group?
4:18 - 4:50 is what you are here for. Makes me feel like I'm Mario after grabbing the star... Mukaiya is an absolute beast. He also wrote all the jingles for the Tokyo train stations.
@@skyfire8950 Not just Koji Kondo, like pretty much all of the NES composers back in the day. @KEN WINS that's so awesome, I didn't know that he wrote those jingles.
4:03-4:19 arguably the spiciest 80s keyboard progression of all time. The way mukaiya builds tension throughout his solo and then resolves it at 4:19 is pure genius.
If it's at 4:18, the chord progression is ||: F#m9, B7alt (#9, #5) | Em9, A7alt (b9, b13) | Dm9, G9, Dbsus9 (the tritone substitution of G) | CM7, F13 | (Then 1/2 tone lower) | Fm9, Bb13 | EbM9, Absus13 | Gsus13, G9 | CM7, F13 :|| It's all about finding the right voicings (ie. the comfy ones to play) and, of course, the II-V-I =)
Lol, I made it complicated to read though! It definitely can be simplified, as it make it easier to read, shame on my 4years ago self. ;) First off, jazz musicians traditionally avoid to play the 5th of a chord (because it doesn't add much "colours"), so you can forget all those "omit 5" from my previous comment. Then, all the extensions (9, 11, 13) can be simplified by only writing "alt" next to the basic structure of the chords, people will find the right extensions by themselves... Having this in mind, the chord chart becomes: || F#m9 / B7alt | Em9 / A7alt | Dm9 / G7 | CM7 / F9 || Fm9 / Bb7alt | EbM9 / Absus13 (basically, a GbM7 on a Ab as a root) | Gsus13 / G9 | CM7 / F9 || The details about the exact extensions are in my other comment. It's all about finding the right voicings (ie. the most comfy to play) and, of course, the II-V-I.
@@Tramseskumbanan I didn't knew they played with level 42, man, what a night should have been for the audience, Mark King is one of a kind bass player, he really makes the bass sound insanely groovy. I'm looking for the track.
@@bladimirfont8699 The clip is from a concert in Japan in 1984 and the two bands with the exception of Phil Gould jam along in this particular song. I don’t know if the clip is still available though. And it was only an audio recording.
I love this group. As a bass player, Sakurai's skill blows me away. Plus, it's so refreshing to see players who are so talented but also seem to genuinely enjoy what they're doing. Plus, this sounds like it could be Mario Kart music.
I don’t care with iteration of Casiopea I can get, but I can’t die happy until I see a single live performance from them. I’ll fucking swim to Japan if I have to.
CASIOPEA concert was held in Sumo Arena in Ryogoku, Tokyo built in January 1985. The arena was built by Japan Sumo Association without borrowing money from any banks. Their efforts primarily owed to the head of the association at that time, a former grand champion of Sumo. Very interesting story.
В очередной раз убеждаюсь, что совместное музицирование - совершенная форма общения. Смотрю на музыкантов Casiopea и любуюсь. Радостные, увлеченные умные лица. Люди заняты любимым делом и разделяют эту радость между собой. Привет из России
I want somebody to look at me the way the keyboardist looked at the guitarists when he was hitting those notes perfectly without even looking at the keyboard
Never seen such happy faces on stage. The guys dance is epic and the music fits epicly together. Sadly something like this will never happen again with todays performers.
As a jazz and jazz fusion superfan, I'm happy to see so many people who would otherwise not approach tis music enjoy it so much. It just goes to show how good it is. Jazz will never die and will be studied and enjoyed for centuries to come, just like classical music.
Minoru is definitely in my top 10 of keyboardists not so much for his skills but just the energy and passion he puts into his playing and it’s so infectious and good. He is a big part of Casiopea’s success for sure
I am 17 and i am so so so so happy that i am able to hear music like this all the time omg i thank god for this and for the people who upload these things. My ears are literally in heaven rn and i feel like crying cause it's so damn good. Ik the majority of teens my age don't listen this kind of music now and idc if I'm the odd the out because music like this in my country is literally 5% of yhe genre we have and it's so so rare and the music isn't even as good as this or close to amazing. I am astonished at how well each one of them play and I'm satisfied with my life being this way, Japanese Music is Heaven and I wannna live on this music. I honestly have no words cause this is just fire 😭👏🏻 thank you thank you thank you
3:30 - 4:16 - 4:52 loving them. Wowow pure happiness and joy! I wonder those two guys added those cute dance moves to amuse and SURPRISE the other two. One of the best musical moments I have witnessed in my life! PS) I have a best collection of their studio recordings but do much prefer their live recordings especially this 1985 ones!!!
Everybody is talking about Minoru Mukaiya (Keys) & Tetsuo Sakurai (Bass) and righfully so. But shout out to my man Issei Noro (Guitar) for laying down a sick ass slap guitar solo and having an insane feel for groove and rhythm while also being an insanely good shredder.
This honestly feels like the musical equivalent of every Japanese-produced video game and videotape I ever owned as a child in the mid-to-late 90s reaching out to hug me while whispering “Arigato gozaimasu” in my ear.
The guy who wrote the early nintendo music including the og mario theme was a fan of this band and i think the guitarist even recorded for the newer nintendo music
@@mitchelturner7793 The SMB1 main theme uses a motif from the album T-Square - Adventures. Also, the same album inspired the battle mode music from Super Mario Kart
Phenomenal!!!! That Yamaha solo was solid, watching the bassist and guitarist, dance. I love the drummer just smiling, laughing and just being happy. Great band!!!!
