I like Ruud. A true pro on and off the court with a big work ethic and respect for his fellow professionals. Keeping Matteo off his forehand and moving his big frame side to side, should always be the game plan of any opponent. Rudd clearly had this strategy as his no.1 game plan and it worked. Metteo's forehand eventually broke down, losing its flow and timing. Every player has a weakness (except for Rafa and Novak) you just have to keep poking it until it bleeds.
@depassebenjamin3212
@depassebenjamin3212 2 года назад
When I was watching the highlights, I thought Matteo Berretini playstyle is reminiscent of Tsonga. Powerful serve, hard hitting forehand from the baseline, he has a better touch though. Ruud is a younger Ferrer, his playstyle is pure resilience. They don't have to adapt on different surfaces, they can play on clay court just like they do on hardcourt.
@SHVideografie
@SHVideografie 2 года назад
I get the comparisons, good observations. Although I feel like Tsonga had better touch than Berrettini, Jo's hands at the net were amazing for such a big powerful guy. Ruud seems a bit more agressive than Ferrer with that forehand, but Ferrer was a better defender.

@tungt88
@tungt88 2 года назад
@@thebigmonstaandy6644 Casper is Ferrer with more spin off both wings, a bigger & better forehand, a much bigger & better serve, and (slightly) lesser movement: which (added up) makes him a completely different player from David, especially since Ferrer tried to hug the baseline whenever possible (only being shoved back by the best baseliners in the business), while Casper is more comfortable starting out well behind it. Edit: someone on another forum mentioned that Ruud is much more like a massively upgraded Juan Monaco, and I think that's the better comparison.

I love the vicious forehand of Ruud, it is actually one of the most powerful forehands out there now. Because of it, I expected him to do more damage against Nadal at RG, but somehow he couldn't, probably because of Nadal's strategic way of playing. Weird decision by the umpire btw, handing Berrettini that point after he failed to halt play. ATP should look into this as it is against all rules.

Glad Rudd won this match despite of the unjust overrule call against him when he would have broke the Berrettini serve at 3-2 in the first set. Rudd's forehand shot may have been out, but Berrettini continued to play and lost the point. One cannot continue to play and still be allowed to challenge the ball mark. The umpire failed call the ball out, and then compounded his error by allowing the challenge after Berrettini failed to stop play. Ruud was too much a gentleman to accept such a late challenge that is against the rule.

Tactically, magnificent from Ruud. Peppered the Berretini backhand the whole match and made Matteo protect that side more and more. As a result, pressure cranked up and Matteo over compensates and his forehand completely gives in in the decider. When that happens, it's a formality. Yes, Rudd has a wonderful game built to play well on clay but you still have to figure things out against a Top 10 player and he did it brilliantly. For Matteo, a great week to follow up the gut wrenching disappointment of not being able to play Wimbledon. Shows amazing mental strength and commitment to the game!

Has Ruud improved his backhand or does it just look better when playing against Berrettini?😂

The game was all about brutal baseline hitting. That's why a player like Alcaraz makes their life difficult as he has that variety.

Ruud was the favorite (RG finalist vs Berrettini who had a rough year surgery+covid), yet came so close to a defeat. Now they are 2-2 and Ruud's two victories were very narrow ones. If I were to bet on one in a H2H I'd go for Berrettini. Ruud is a great player though, in and out of court.
