Let's just clear something up, this is not pointless, this is supposed to be educational, fun and it's the same reason that people put gameboy style cases on phones the nostalgia and the sweet retro feel to it. This channel is amazing and it always will be. It's probably difficult to come up with so many new ideas so you have to give kipkay credit.

mp3 sounds about as bad as a cassette so I'll just stick with the cassettes. Cool hack. Am I the only one still listening to cassettes?
@bluecollarcanuck
@bluecollarcanuck 9 лет назад
Well, not really. :) I managed to obtain a few turntables as Craigslist freebies. I also found a Denon stereo-component tape deck for a ridiculously low price at a thrift store. I'll be hooking those up to my computer using an RCA-to-USB adapter. And, I still have a cassette adapter that plugs into a headphone jack from when the old Discman players hit the market.

I thought at first that you were going to put a magnetic pick up head in there and allow you to play MP3s from a cassette deck.
@yafilmDOTcom
@yafilmDOTcom 8 лет назад
571 people were expecting the OP to make an actual REAL TAPE MP3 Player, you know, one that involves using an actual data tape recorder/player like the ones used for the TRS-80 old computers, etc that stores actual data on the tape and then hacking the recorder to embed a real-time MP3 encoder/decoder in such a way that MP3 files can be saved into the magnetic tape itself and played back (decompress and project the sound to a speaker) in real time. I was almost certain that I was going to see a project that involved the manipulation and parsing of data into an actual magnetic cassette media of some sort, but it was a little disappointing watching him dismantle an actual fully featured MP3 player and placing it inside an empty cassette shell with its function buttons merely rerouted else where via added wires and push button switches. Anyways, this was a cool project.

For anybody claiming "Who'd 'a thunk it" is "Wrong": yes it is, but on purpose. it's supposed to indicate extreme sarcasm or lack of suprise for something. It dates back to a show in the 60s, but i'm sure it has been used before. example: alice: look, I made you a strawberry pie! bob: whats in it? alice: strawberrys! bob: who'd 'a thunk

@Cthulhu013 9 лет назад
Evan Thieme What makes a record player hipster? I think it just makes you old.
@SdudyoyO
@SdudyoyO 9 лет назад
Evan Thieme Record Players aren't Hipster, I grew up with my Dad using one, and it's nostalgic for me to use one, but I most certainly don't prefer them over the many other music devices.
@lindsaymobil22
@lindsaymobil22 9 лет назад
Evan Thieme Vinyl records aren't exactly hipster. They're still very much favoured by audiophiles also.
@evanthieme8349
@evanthieme8349 9 лет назад
Yeah I understand that vinyls are great for audiophiles but I know several people who use them only because they are old and less popular, hence making them a stereotypical 'hipster' item
@Cthulhu013
@Cthulhu013 9 лет назад
Evan Thieme I'm not an audiophile. I just hate CD's, they have no collectors value in my eyes. And digital music, while great for portability is just too easy. I need a physical copy that I can enjoy. Cassettes don't sound good enough and aren't very appealing art wise. So vinyl is what's left. I mostly play digital music, but I love occasionally opening my vinyl collection and playing them. Plus, vinyl tends to be a good investment, it not only retains its value, but with time, becomes more valuable. That's good for resale, which is why I tend to buy more than 1 copy at a time. One I'll sell in a decade, the other I keep for myself.
