Cass broke it down perfectly. Battle rap is like street ball. You can get away with double dribbles, carries and travels because it’s all about displaying haymaker punches mixed with visual performance and gimmicks. You can’t do any of that on a beat. Rapping on a beat is the NBA of rapping
Hate it or love it, Cassidy is a lyrical technician. He’s the only one to sell gold records and still maintain a BAR format way of rapping. The man battled his self on his own album, and sold records. This is before social media💯💪🏽
This is why us 80s babies were the last of a dying breed. Heard when he said “once I heard ya name it was a go” that’s called respect. Respecting those who came before you. Todays generation lost that. They feel like it’s not necessary today and I find that mad disrespectful!
Not true, each new generation is born out of the previous indoctrination of the last generation! So if you don’t teach your creation but allow outside sources to teach it (school, tv, etc) then you get what you or other entities put out for the child to absorb.
@@anun-re that's half the answer. This generation doesn"t have any responsibility. Kids of last generation were more serious of adults of this generation.
Good interview. Cassidy the type when ask a question, your getting his full thoughts on the question. Cassidy talking real tho, that's how I viewed songs and battle rap.
Agreed; that’s why I hated his drink champs interview was split between 3 other ppl. He was talking that talk & his stories were amazing!! I wish he had more time there. This is the battle I didn’t know I wanted to see til now 😂
Some MCs were born to battle and some MCs were born to make songs. And some MCs can do both. Writing is a skill set...so what Cassidy said was absolutely right. And the way he broke it down proves how much of a genius lyricist he is...facts or undeniable facts?
Yep. I agree 💯%. Cas broke it down all the way to the quantum element lol. I personally could battle rap on record but not in person. But I feel him...he definitely doesn't get the respect he deserves
Man he didn't say nothing its alot of battle rappers that's making music better than him now ... he ain't talking about nothing I can give u names if battle rappers that make great music tsu surf for 1 ... then why Cassidy isn't still on top...ill wait
@@nuhussl7 Yes bring'em out bring'em out. That's the whole point. How are we supposed to know unless you have them all jumpin shouting saying it? Lux hung with Red and Meth in a song and recent top tier battle songs have been fire.
He Really is in his own Category . you cant compare him to none. he was Battle rapping on songs with Bars and punchlines. He made Battle Rap by his cheer musical setup was a battle rapper formula on beat. Battle Rappers could crossover with using Cassidy:s Blue Print
Preach mannn!!!!I hate that people act like they dont know Cass was LITERALLY considered arguably the BEST rapper at one point...90% of battle rappers styles was inspired by Him...Its only certain people that u can tell wasnt influenced...Such as "Lux, Dizaster, Daylyt Etc" but for the most part, they all KNOW they were inspired, they just wont give him that cred, now that he's become an actual opp...
@@nuhussl7 man what is u talkin bout bruh?...I said "Lux" as in "Loaded Lux" the battle rapper...or i said "Battle Rapper's styles" as in the way the battle rappers rap...Im not referring to "Styles P from the Lox" at all...
Read about it back in the day, I was like damn. I commented on a post the other day, and someone from Philly confirmed the story about him going to Central High
@@samcooke7978 if you heard cassidy back in the day his style was way different. He had a canibus type style rhyming a bunch of big words together. You can tell he was smart af..
not gonna lie: some emcees just have interesting voices as well. Cass has a unique voice and certain inflections and whatnot that just kinda pull you in as a listener.
..same hand movements and gun sounds they do every battle, but they say that's performance"~Cassidy He spoke to ALLLL these new era battle rappers with that😆.
It’s over, the bull is healthy, confident in his independent career, confident in his music. Like I’ve literally have been seeing Csssidy active for the past 5 years. This is going to be the best comeback. You can’t tell him shit. He has went viral, Hitman emotional ass was the perfect alley hoop to get back to the masses. This battle is going to be embarrassing. Hitman will throw the battle and make himself look like a clown.
20-25yrs ago they (rappers) had to master both b/c battling was how they got on; Once they were on, they had to transition into songwriting or get left behind in the music biz.
That was back then - truth is battlerap then was like amateur boxing and making music and being an industry rapper was the professional ranks. Battlerap has developed now to a point where it's far more complicated and is a profession of its own. Mastering both now is pretty much impossible.
You have to understand 20 years ago most of the battle rappers wrote to a beat... now they dont do that that's the difference... back in the day you can write 5 16s remember them and battle everybody wit the 5 16s
Wrong..i dont kno 1 battle rapper who rap like they on stage on a beat.when.u a kid..u wanna b a rapper first..hearing rap songa on radios amd ect then u gst pulled in like ay ppl battle..they not successful at making music cus ppl dont really listen to ppl who they feel like they already kno they give most ppl that 1 thing they good at and nothing else like basketball players..boxers..football players..most of them these days cant sell no records.they already known for what they do..but it is ppl that cant do both..and most of them cant it is like street ball vs nba..
Cassidy is on point...it’s similar to joke tellers in comparison to comedians...it’s not easy to stand up on stage for 30-60 minutes and tell stories that hold people’s attention...Chappelle, Pryot, Carlin & Murphy are on a whole different level
I would go as far and say religious sermons are similar to. It’s all words delivery and energy in verbal art Forms, some people don’t see comedians as artists. There’s a lot that goes into comedy. You have to read the crowd make them think and your point of view has to click with the audience in a way that no one has done before
The 3 forms of rappers in my opinion. 1. Rappers who can write good songs. 2. Rappers who can write good battle raps. 3. Rappers who can really write raps. Cassidy has shown and proved that he can rap, in the studio and in the ring.
Lord Jamar great interview with one of the greatest battle rappers ever Cassidy I would love 2 have seen a dream battle of 99 Em vs 05 Cassidy or even 97 Canibus, and even Buckshot shortly would had been dope as hell 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!!!!
Looking for TK Kirkland's comment. Lol. Another great interview, very interesting. Speaking of battle rappers, how many people grew up, loving emcee Supernat?
Dmx, Jay-Z, big l, Kane, Eminem, redman all have their roots in battling 1st...it is only a hand full who were able to transition like that tho...n krs1...lol
It's a damn shame battle rappers HATE on this guy when they should be learning from him. In South Africa we say "indlela ibuzwa kwabaphambili" it means that you ask for the way to success from those that have crossed it. Dope interview CASSIDY is the ENERGY of Battle Rap. 🥇🏋🏿♀️
He has to earn his respect. He hasnt won a battle yet. Battle rap isnt the same as it was when Cass was battling. These dudes carried the the artform on their back and he just came back when it became more lucrative. Cass can rap but his rounds are nothing that hasnt been said 10 years ago.
@@dionwells2859 he actually is God's gift to battle rap. He always causes a pandemonium. And these rappers need to learn from him if they are to be successful in how to handle their business in battle rap and mainstream music which they FAIL dismally even tho they say they record music too. Learn from the best who is good in both and that's almighty CASSIDY
Cassidy used to go to my barbershop in Philly. I remember seeing him in there before he got famous .... He was a real quiet dude ... Stayed with his black and white composition book with his rhymes in it. Barbershop was on Washington Lane and Forrest Ave in Philly
Facts.....and that's something everyone is failing to understand.....songs are easy to create and record and go back and fix if need be but battling and remembering 9 minutes of what you wrote and creating schemes and punches and so forth is fucking hard.....to me the both is far from comparable......battling is a beast in its own jungle ...that's why slot of industry cats that didn't or don't have battle format can't compete
Big ups Lord Jamar! Great interview with one of the best lyricists. Cassidy is in a good space. He's from the era where/when emcees had to spit bars that registered in real time. Cassidy is really dropping gems for these youngins if they're paying attention. Peace.
Battle rap today don't understand that every mainstream rapper was a battle rapper at first from Cassidy to Jay z The Big pun from biggie the Tupac I can keep going
Today battle rap is different . Back then niggas would be just rhyming , whoever had the best verse won. Now it’s more of a direct verbal attack on the opponent.
@@jirrellj this is what people and Cassidy doesn't understand which he will keep on losing. Cassidy writes rhymes in away where.... If the opponent he is facing has nothing left to say.... He wins or just general battle lines that isn't directed towards the person.
Dude is talking real shit, I used to work with a few of these young rappers to try and get them to understand the importance of working on your craft...black people are naturally talented at a lot of things but without discipline & work ethic you will never get to where you could be
The reality is battles haven't turned into lyrics it is a popularity contest. I dont like food based on what's popular, I like it based on what tastes good, same for music
Never heard a break down of the art of lyricism like he just described......this is why he’s undefeated in my book , there’s a science & formula to this whole rap shit🤷🏽♀️
Kal El Daily yep Bernie was more talented. I’ve heard from other comedians that Steve Harvey used to close in the beginning but the crowd loved Bernie so much he became the closer and Harvey ended up the host.
This guy is very very smart,he's basically teaching all battle rapper's,he's a legend OMG,he knows he was going to be on this platform and rappers gone come to listen.
Twork, Surf, Swamp, Eazy Da Block Captain, Rum Nitty and I can name 20 more that's all fire on beat and have fire tracks, we can also do a whole episode of industry rappers that come to battle rap and get smoked, it's 2 different worlds
Cass is forever going to be my guy! Much respect to Lord Jamar he’s definitely cut from a different cloth since day one nothing but love & respect for him as well!
@@KSSBG That's a lie, these guys aren't jealous of no cassidy. The reason why Cassidy is not respected by alot of the5 battle rappers is because what he did.
Cass its called the Tempo of the beat. In battlerap there is no beat. The beat prepares you on how to rap to it it gives you inspiration of flowing to it. When there is no beat there is no limit to the tempo cause there isn’t one so you can literally rap the way you want. But there is a certain flow pattern that everyone uses in battlerap. And that’s what we want from you cass
A lot of battle rappers also don't know how to use their voices as instruments on a beat and switch flows either. Same goes with making hooks and difference of subject matter.
How his situation is it remindeds me of floyd mayweather jr. Had him sign a six deal fight within two years. Really design for him to lose. Seems like they were doing the same thing with cass putting him on a big stage all 3 battles design for him to lose. But that's hard to do when the mane got hell of barz tho
Most battle rappers won’t admit it but they’re are jealous of Cass because they have been doing it for a long time and Cass was able to come in and basically get all the attention while rapping his own style instead of confirming to the modern day battle rap format!
The all time best VS would have been Big L and Cassidy if the late great Harlem lyricist was still in the physical. Both these guys have that punch line flavor.
Tone Blue it’s pretty clear what my point was. Cass is from the 90’s and early 2000’s that’s his era and he sold records. You gotta be talented and marketable to sell records a Swiss beat isn’t enough. He’s studied his craft for years
HONESTLY: I feel like for a long time Industry Rappers treated battle rappers like "I could do what y'all do easy". That what I heard for years. O.G's or catz from the 90's say things like "We been doing that for years". Then when a few industry catz jump in the ring and found out different they started to feel away because they couldn't match up to the new battle rap standards. Of course, this era of battle rappers feels some type of way about industry rappers entering the arena and not paying the proper respect for what they built. Before this era battle rapper wasn't a section of rap where you could make enough money to live on and Just be a battle rapper if that what you choose. I got much respect for this platform but we have to admit for years Industry rappers have talk about battle rappers like they were 2nd class citizen in Hip Hop. They are giving back the same energy that the industry gave them. We gottah stop doing this to each other. Give them their respect for where they have taking battle rap too! Their is enough "GREATNESS" out here for all of us! Ya boy Hudson Redwater
Omg I'm so hyped....Cassidy is going to bar heavy the whole time bro....he raps for 9 minute's on tracks bro...when he says he's going go In on stage he means it
Funny thing is Cass act like he's dropping classic albums... He's like a Nas diss track away from being considered only a battle rapper. I f-cks with him, but he need to calm it down.
@@MrVIP1993 Hustler and Hotel... Name the rest of the "hits".... Let's not play crazy and d-ckride like he was killing the industry here. You and him act like Cass is way above battle rap.
@@kcei7atutube If Nas dissed him right now, the same thing he saying about battle rappers would directly apply to him... If Cassidy is in the NBA, he'll be in the G-League and Nas would be in the NBA a NBA all-star... Cass is one bad game away from Street ball..
