I have no idea how I ended up on this video but I'm glad I did. The entire video was fascinating and you are obviously very good at what you do.

Way to go! Other than the different thread pitch, you would never know it had been repaired. I have a Kubota tractor. I'll have to remember this technique if I ever have the same problem.

I guess I’m still a little trigger shy with welding on critical aluminum parts, but the way I’ve approached similar repairs is to do this same process, except I’ve used an aluminum bolt (Bolt Depot, McMaster, etc) to make my slug, installed it with the appropriate Loctite product, and surfaced the part flat after install. I’m not sure if you could argue that it’s a better repair, but it’s permanent without any annealing of the parent material, and you never even have to plug in the welder. Just a thought. I threw you a subscription; I really like your channel’s angle of encouraging people to get out there and make money with their skillset, and I like the way you think outside the box. Also, I do my most of my welding on a big cast iron table saw. 😂 So there’s that.

You did a good job. That repair should hold quite a bit of pressure; -if needed. Never knew that was called an banjo bolt.

Amazing. It's a work of art. Very safisfying to watch. Question: The time it took to repair this part, the materials, the labor... would it be easier to just replace the part, if available?
@amcustomfab
@amcustomfab Год назад
The part was $1,400 to replace and I only charged the customer $250 for the work

The thread is possibly JIC as a lot of Chinese, Japanese have used

Probably was not necessary to weld it all the way around. A few tacks could have minimized heat distortion to the part.

Very possibly 😎

No just because he has to worry about leaks. And he probably doesn’t know what psi would be going through those ports. Any bit of pressure and you will get a leak. 1lb of air in something and you will get a bubble leak if you soap test it. I build pontoons every now and then and they all have to be pressure tested.

I like the way you think but the majority of your strength is from the weld.

Was it just me or does your drill press have runout from Hell? When you first started drilling into the bolt after you cut it down it seemed to be all over the place, but maybe it was the camera or screen doing things that they do.
