This video was shot a few weeks ago at the same time I was shooting a seperate shark fishing video that has already been published. You might see a few overlapping camera shots but it is an entirely seperate video.

That was definitely not a juvenile sheepshead. That was a Sergeant Major damsel fish

I really like how easy drawstring nets are to clear. I've never bought one because they're pretty expensive here in Oz, but had a lot that I've found thrown away by others once they're damaged. So I fix them up and use them. In my life I've bought maybe a dozen castnets - I'm 50. Currently I've got 7 nets from 4 to 12 feet and only paid for a 9 foot bottom pocket out of those. I give others away to friends and family. I still have a 50 foot dragnet I bought when I was 15!

I'm still learning to throw my 6' net.. I had a 3' and got pretty good at hitting schooling mullet.. But the 6' is way heavier

Are you holding it just under the ring when you throw it? If you are, grab about 10-13 inches down from that on the net. You’ll throw rings all day. Best of luck!!

@@imoverhere8327 I am holding about 1/3 of the way down.. I'm learning as I go. Cast nets were illegal where I grew up so its all new to me

What an incredibly calm day on the jetty. I have been out there when it was being washed over by high seas, and very tricky to stay upright.

I grew up in the exact area he is at and casting for bait all my life. I Moved to Washington state last year and only the native American’s are allowed to cast. Upsetting, but I understand 100%.

But aren’t you pretty much killing everything you catch unnecessarily and “wasting” it? Just curious how often you actually keep what you catch for necessary sustenance. Seems like the bait you catch and kill is used for your youtube channel. Love your channel btw.

Why is it a waste, because Im not eating the bigger fish? Catch and release fishing is not a waste, especially when I can 1) use the fish as an ambassador of its species for educational purposes, and 2) RU-vid pays my bills quite literally. Catch and release on RU-vid is actually, literally sustaining me whereas catch and keep is really completely unnecessary for a person in my position.

You are just being conservative. Conservation of those fish means that they'll be there for you or someone else to catch for bait later.
