It may sound gross to us, but there are very few fishing spots as productive as a good sewer discharge!
WARNING: I throw a cast net very, very weird.

Many people do not understand how well sewer treatment plants work. In a lot cases the water being discharged is in better condition than the surface water it is flowing into.
@mikeup7517

That's what I'm sayin...the treatment plant here discharges right into the new river and the water is also warmer attracting fish....well at least here especially in winter.

I know the key to traditional cast net techniques is to get the net to spin in the horizontal plane to create centrifugal force to drive the net open, but I'm not sure if it apply quite so much with your style. It's definitely interesting to see. Also my favourite/most hated thing with cast netting when you get a 'Christmas Tree'. That's where you get a net full of fish that are gilled all along the drop length of the net and you have to spend ages getting each and every one of the little buggers out.

Your right about the discharge water. By law tertiary discharge water has to be cleaner than the waterway its discharged into. It is monitored to make sure bacteria and virus levels are non pathogenic. Even water that has undergone only primary and secondary treatment is cleaner but the nutrient level is higher which is why suck water is used for parks and golf courses. It fertilizer levels make it unsafe for drinking but they are removed with tertiary water.

I use to go to a power plant you could throw your net and fill a 5 gallon bucket with shad in 2 or cast. Sometimes there was so many you couldn't pull the net up. Once on one cast I caught a 7 lb bass and a 2 pound bass. You can't get to the spot now.
@marshallbyrne9643

You throw similar to how I was taught how to throw by an old man on Myrtle Beach, who told me to disregard the instructions on the box and I threw a few times on how he told me how to do it. Still do it and after almost 30 years it has been a very productive throw for me. About the only difference is instead of grabbing the actual net with the right hand is to instead pinch the lead line between the thumb and forefinger to attain a more centrifugal throw. He also taught me to wind the rope around my arm for an instant rethrow although I think your method of just grabbing it may work best for throwing against the wind. Save your teeth!

@Jonathan.D
@Jonathan.D 3 года назад
@@wildlifefishingshow It's definitely an unconventional method for casting. It seems to work well for you. Most importantly it doesn't get you so wet. My only suggestion would be to follow through with the right hand to get more of a spin. The spin will keep it open longer. With a small net you can't use too much power or it just flips over. To get out farther you need to a bigger net. I always have an 8ft with 1/2in mesh and a 12ft 3/8th mesh bait. I had a 14ft at one time but that's a lot of net to throw and I didn't always have room to use it. Also, I learned that with the 14ft sometimes it would get so full of bait it took 3 guys to pull it up. Don't be afraid to ask someone who is good at throwing a net to give you a few pointers. I learned a little trick from a guide that made a big difference. Keep up the good work.

Wastewater effluent is very clean and attracts both fish and wildlife. Don’t forget to thank the men and women who remove all the crap you flush and pour down your sink. You do realize there is only so much water. We use and reuse it over and over. Try to help keep it clean by not putting anything in the water that you shouldn’t. Couple of examples- oil, grease, condoms, corks( female hygiene) , and especially medication.

@@shannonfishkill8957 definitely impossible, but here's why I use the small net. 1) There are a load of snags like shopping carts, tires, concrete, etc., in these bayous and I can fit the small net between them. Bigger nets would just get hung up (I tried it, it happened) 2) The first time I posted a net video, the weird way I throw it generated something like 300 comments just about the throw method. Some interested, some mad or condescending, ALL good for the algorithm. That video is about to hit 800,000 views. I started doing it in every net video since and they all get tons of views and I know the interaction in the comments helps. Using a small net has incredible advantages in that respect.

@@wildlifefishingshow Yeah I can see that. I have a sacrificial net One that’s just had too many holes and fixed too many times to try new spots.
