I met him in Houston in 1988. He was signing autographs but had to catch a helicopter on the roof of the convention center. One little girl wanted his autograph and was crying as he was leaving. Alan saw this and ran back to her, wiped he eyes, kissed her cheek and signed his autograph on a picture of him. His manager was yell at his to hurry up all the time. My eyes were a bit moist. Such a kind gentleman, I ever saw.

@@davidelliott9590 Anyone under the age of 50-70 will never understand just how much we needed Gilligan and the Skipper! We were dealing with the Cold War in the news and whispered by our parents! I had repetitive nightmares of a blast of heat from the east and the skin burning off my back, and I wasn’t alone in that horrible state of mind. Anything that took our young minds away from Russians with an atom bomb blowing up North America in general, Canada in particular, was a necessity of our generation. Try to wrap your mind around the stress that caused a bunch of 7 and 8 year old kids! It was a scary time in our young minds! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

I heard on the Cancer Unit where he (Alan Hale Jr) died was an orphan child/teenager was dying of Cancer all alone. Alan Hale (Skipper) went into his room and the two bonded. The Child's Nurse said the boy was thrilled the Skipper came and saw him. The boy died later that day with a drawing of him and the skipper on boat heading into the sunset. I cannot find any evidence to confirm that story. But I am going to tell it anyways.

While eating, we heard his voice and turned around and yelled out, "Hey Skipper!" He walked over and shook our hands and asked us how the food was. The food is great we told him and he smiled and told us to enjoy our meals. The restaurant closed down shorty after, but we were sure glad to have had met the Skipper! ⛴ Many decades later I was hire by CBS and worked at their studio where they had filmed the series, out in Studio City, California.
