Hi Billy. Subscribed to you there a few days ago. Watching loads of the videos. Really really enjoying it. I'm a novice fisherman and have been since my dad first took me down in Union Hall in 1998. Still fish parts of Howth and red Rock in Sutton. Learning lots off you here. keep it up
Thanks for another top video Billy. I tried out your casting tips and I got more distance than normal after a bit of practice. Caught bugger all but still, I had a good day out in the sunshine😊 Looking forward to your next instalment..
Some great info there thanks Billy. I've got a 4.5 metre Conti rod, and my casting could do with some improvement, so will have to get some practice. Tight Lines, and Stay safe & well. 🎣🎣👍👍
I sure hope you return to Japan during the better season. I think there is potential there. I haven't seen too many videos there. You might have to try some fishing in Canada 😉
Yet another stunning video mate very interesting and informative as usual.. As for the fishing in Japanese waters I thought you would have a problem catching fish .. when you consider that the population of Japan consume vast amounts of fish every day. It comes as no suprise that the sea around the country has no fish stock worth talking about.... Anyway billy keep smiling as things can only get better.. Keep yourself safe and well .
Hi Wayne. As it goes the seas around Japan are quite rich. Due to the continental shelf and the upwelling of cold water that brings plankton to the surface. But this is not a very good time of the year for fishing in the area I was! Thanks Brother, much appreciated 😁👌
Hey Billy, wrong Season for Japan I reckon! Try again in the northern late spring or early autumn - target species - Red Snapper (Tai or madai locally) on lures and baits and Yellowtail Amberjack (Hamachi) on lures or live baits. Both fish are absolute brutes, you'll love 'em! (they're also 100% delicious to eat!) You might even get into some Grouper and Giant Trevally using the same methods to catch the two above - see you on the beach mate!
Hi bud. Hopefully I will be returning later this year or the next. The locals told me it was the worst time of the year, but you have to give it a go. Thanks Brother 😁👌
You absolutely do! It'll be much easier next time now you know the lay of the land so to speak. Besides, I'm sure you'll be a due for another visit to the multi floored tackle shops in Japan by then!
Shimano does a really nice travel surf rod (Shimano STC Surf). comes in a baitcast version and a spinning version. Both also have the shiny tip. They are a bit pricier though, but pack very compactly.
Great vid... True if buying first rod, don't go expensive... That £400 expensive rod could. fall off tripod, damage when trying to cast with no experience etc . go to local soccer field for a practise session.
Good on you for getting out there to give it a go, and taking us with you! Mad the performance of gear you can get for the money if your willing to look past the ‘big’ brands, something you have helped me with a lot with your videos so thanks 🎣 👍🏻
It's a shame Japan hasn't worked well fishing wise mate but glad to hear you are heading back to Norway! I've been using conti rods for about 10 years now and could never go back to a beach caster and a multiplier! I've got 6 conti rods, 2 for clean ground, 2 for mixed and 2 for heavy and bigger fish all with fixed spools and braid of course! That brand you are using make some pretty decent gear for the price, looking forward to some fish catching Norway videos mate! 😉🇧🇻🇧🇻🎣👍
Thanks Damian. The locals tell me it is the worst time of the year waiting for the water to warm up, so just small species unless you're fishing from a boat. But I will return some time maybe in the autumn, when the fishing is better. What Norway is calling, see you on the beach 😁👌
Hi Pim. Honestly I really didn't expect that much, but you need to get to know a new country and going there is the best way to do it. Thanks Brother 😁👌
Cant win them all Billy hope you had a good time out there none the less, Look forward to seeing you back in Norway and on home soil in Ireland , happy hauling buddy
I hope you enjoyed your time anyway! Some times, fishing is hard! One of these days I plan on taking my fly rods into the mountains of Japan to target their lovely Cherry Salmon. Though my next trip is probably Texas for alligator gar. Thanks as always for video, they help me stay focused on the goal while I work my regular job!
Hi bud. As memory serves you're in Montana? Alligator gar is a fish I have always wanted to catch. Hope you make it to Japan to catch the cherry salmon. Thanks Brother 😁👌
Hi Garrie. Honestly I was told by the Japanese, I probably wouldn't catch anything at that time of the year. But you got to give it a go. Thanks Brother 😁👌
Sorry to hear about not great fishing, but seems time of year has big effect. That rod's Butt ring looks to be the wrong way round as that type slope forward and the two legs help feed the line into the ring and help prevent loops snagging the ring, all the others look to be good. Mind you looking at the pics on various sites selling it that is the way it is. I have switched to Conti Rods as mostly clear ground here in Mid wales and they are a lot easier to cast distance than my old Daiwa Supercast Mk1 and Mk2 with ABU 6500 reels. Got a Penn wrath 14Ft for £40 just to try first and later an Akios 4.2m Fury as a second rod later, both are easy to handle and cast with.
Nice rod action brother!! Looked an alright stick from this end of the lens mate , great review and top tips , Did you catch anything ? appreciate your efforts billy🎣🤘🏼
Hi Paul. Yeh, nice rod for the money. Good fun to fish with. Just small fish puffers and some type of brem, rock fish. That type of thing, thanks Brother 😁👌
Back to Europe Billy fk those puffer fish mate let's see some of those big Pollock bud I'm guessing the shore fishing was a waste of time !! But you gave it a go right !!! I bet everything was expensive in Japan are you returning to Ireland or back to Norway pal ??
Hi bud. As it goes Japan is actually pretty cheap! But the fishing is pretty bad at this time of the year! But I will return to Japan again, hopefully next time we'll be different. Thanks Brother 😁👌
I use 12ft beachcasters. I have a pretty old, heavy, Daiwa and a very modern, for me, Shakespeare I got new about 25 years ago lol. Much lighter, is great with a multplier and casts decent distances. The Daiwa is a heavy rock mark thumper. I see guys in my local spots fishing 4m - 5m rods, lobbing out 100g leads with bait, 100m+ with ease! They seem to be a soft casting rod that takes no effort and achieves good distances with minimal effort.... Think I may try and pick one up this year to try.
@@Billyfishing_watch Oh man, my Daiwa beachcaster is shockingly crap lol. it casts like a beast but bite detection is non existent! My old Shakespeare is very sensitive and casts well.
I have been looking at getting some JOF braid and I have noticed that you use that braid in your 4 strand set up video.. It is very cheap for large spools even..is it good quality??
Well done Billy go pendulum it I dare you it's ages since I've seen someone snap a rod in half lol 😂 I sometimes fished with a right joker he couldn't pendulum for toffee he broke two Century Tip Tornadoes and tried to blame the maker 😂😂
Honestly I am not sure, I have no idea what my plans are yet for this year. But if I'm in your area let me know, and I will see what I can do. No no promises. Thanks bud 👍
Aye. Its my middle distance scratching rod, but I find it cumbersome after a while. I bought a mitchell 420 sensocast to replace it@@Billyfishing_watch
