Castle 1717 motor repair. The motor was juddering under load this is normally always related to issues with the centre wire, you can see it had disordered, but also on the inside of the motor where the brass tail is located you have the wires running into the back, these can disorder as well, hard to see but any movement at all can cause arching and misses in the power entering the motor.
enjoy the video!
New Pb while running foams - Aiming for higher speeds this year! 160 - 170 0r higher?
New road found, this is included at the end of the video!
Just out testing cars stability on foams, very happy with progress today, but a disaster as roads were still wet due to salting for colder temps, so i ended up at a new spot which was very narrow.

Nice little video I would definitely recommend for you to look into a Weller SP80NUS 80-Watts Soldering Iron they are amazing for jobs like this fast and easy I have been using that soldering iron for many years just have to make sure you maintenance and make sure the tip is always clean also Castle uses a lead free Sn99 solder because leadfree has a higher melting point and the standard 60/40-63/37 lead solder But in reality what they should have used is a silver bearing Rosin core solder or Sn10/Pb88/Ag2 solder which has a much higher melting point 300c One thing that you could do to help with the wire come in and soldered it make the contact surface of where you’re soldering the wire to so you can strip the wire where there’s more of a contact service inside of the wire on the long part of the backside so it’s harder and takes more heat to come undone

I’ve got 3 faulty 1717’s at home. Desoldered center wire. One of them blew up. I’ve had another 1717 sent off and repaired as well (warranty). What’s going on with that motor?

This motor belonged to a friend, my own 1717 has been savagely used and abused, I’ve lost count of how many runs it’s done above 140 and I’m sure it’s done at least 20 runs above 150 and still goes well. I used different solder with a higher melting point, and I only ever did one run and then I would drive the car back slowly and then always letting it cool down after every run.

Get a rag and pliers. I hold the shaft with the pliers in the rag so you can move the shaft in there slower and more safely. It works great

When they let go do they do any damage to the Esc ? I am just fitting one to a limitless. And I don’t want to cook an xlx2.
@audiquattrojamie
@audiquattrojamie 2 года назад
No I haven’t heard of it happening, one of the main ways to wreck an esc is an electrical short or major spark, this is why the anti spark connectors are great. If your using It to speed run just do one pass, drive car back real slow snd put a fan on the motor to cool it down, that will keep it from over heating, also watch your gearing
