5:29 Those wheels are so trippy! I thought they were still spinning high rpm until the car came to a complete stop. Love seeing all these classic cars being treated how they were built to be and not stuck in some stuffy old garage somewhere because someone thinks it's an asset.
Boy does this footage bring back memories. In 1964 I bought a 1960 MGA Twin Cam race car after the team who owned it blew the engine at Thompson Raceway. The car was totally set up,for racing and had never been used on the highway so it was equipped with an almost new set of oversized Goodyear Bluestreak racing tires. As these tires were only designed to be used in the dry should have replaced them but they were so good in the dry I kept them. First time I got caught out in the rain I was navigating a rotary at about 65 mph and found myself spinning in endless circles! These poor guys found themselves in similar circumstances!
I can't tell you how wonderful it is to see pieces of art going around the road at speed and being competitive, but also can't tell you how hard it is to watch a jaguar or an SC go into the wall at speed even if it is a padded wall. It's almost like the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat every 20 seconds!!!!!🤗🤯☠
Very well put, and I totally agree. We all want to see these cars being raced in a spirited and competitive manner - it’s what they were designed and constructed to do - but, at the same time, we want them to look pristine and retain their elegant lines and classic beauty. But those two desires are really antithetical to one another, which is why so many such cars end up as pampered, soulless Garage Queens, in the same way that some parents won’t allow their children to engage in exuberant outdoor play, “because they’ll only hurt themselves...” 🗣🤕🙁😢😔
These cars are well looked after and will always see the repair they require if damaged. When the Jag hit the wall, yes there weas concern for the car, but I was wondering about the driver, it's not like new cars that can take a walloping. All seemed ok though. But agreed, wonderful to see these machines 'living' as they were intended.
as they say, it's not a beauty contest, unless it's a 1906 Daraque out there getting out classed by everyone else, give her the beans, your only gonna look like a chump as the owner entering yer prima dona in circuit race.. if you want to show it, save it for the hillclimb, otherwise there's scores to settle out there..
Shame how utterly stupid to take an irriplacable classic you have lovingly restored or someone else has and drive like a maniac so you can destroy it by banging it into a wall. By the way having once owned a TC it made me sick to see these fools doing this.
As much or more driver error on the turn entry and steering angle which put him on the grass. A better driver might actually have made that corner at that speed, but many of these weekend warriors simply don’t have the experience or skills.
I've done it, and it is something I would usually try to avoid; it's bloody difficult to even see with spray defeating your wipers, and your braking marks moving in and out as the track dries or gets wetter; racing being what it is, if you feel your wheels let go under braking, it's usually too late to avoid an off.
What a great surprise! First time on the channel, and I'm digging all these little Euro cars...and then in rolls a '65 Falcon! lol right into the crashbarriers! lol ...4 door Jaguars, old straight-sided roadsters, open cockpits... racing in the rain, no less! LOVE IT! I'll be back!!
Sad. Don't wish any "bingles" on such great old classics. Some great spin recoveries in there. Cheers to the chaps for still "giving them the beans". I've done plenty of racing in the rain on wide slicks, and its scary business! At least they aren't going very fast and have low mass :)
All the comments about lack of skill, being an ex racing driver myself I doubt any of you could do any better, these cars aren’t the easiest things to drive quickly in the dry let alone the wet greasy conditions of castle Combe, yes some are what are called gentleman races who are just doing it because of there love and passion for motorsport, so there is no need to go throwing insults around, especially when half of you could only dream of having the skill to race a car competitively
I've just come across your comment and I totally share your remarks to the keyboard top drivers whose driving experience on a wet track is next to zero. I can see tons of social envy surfacing and I dare say that's an unfair and clueless behaviour. I guess these gentlemen are having fun, beyond any competitive feeling, and who cares about their skill on the wet...
That is hardcore fun there kids. I can just picture the smiling faces as the car pulls a dognut, straightens her out, back on the gas and away he goes!! Good having the big soft pillows so no one gets hurt.

First time in history a Ford Falcon has ever been referred to as a land yacht. Maybe to you brits until you see what a real American land yacht looks like.
Yeah other than the first guy coming in way over his head they all Drive really well the fact that they've had no contact means that they're really mindful of the drivers around them and it looks like they're on Ice it's so slick but still very good video thanks
I haven't even gotten to a moment. and I am so surprised. These drivers don't understand the concept of taking foot off the gas pedal or turning the front wheels into the turn. Its like the first day of drivers education. That said, Man they are driving some beautiful cars. What great video!
I just can not understand how you go to a race track with such valuable and historic cars (and still when it rains) and thus risks to destroy the valuable car! :-(
Certainly I can understand enjoying your wonderful oldie sports car, I have had a few - a TC and an Austin 7 Nippy but in the rain where you know you have a seriously good chance of buggering the thing up - no way, that is just bloody stupid!

Often these sudden spins are because wheels are not aligned (they might go off because suspension is malfunctioning), or chasis suffered from previous impacts and rear wheels are not perfectly diagonaly aligned with front wheels and this causes spins. You can notice that most of the cars go OK, and that some cars even spin on straights. Those that spin on straights have issues with wheel alignment for sure.
Incase you’re salty about their driving, just remember that most of these individuals suffer from the same issue that 90% of you do. It’s called “driving aid”. None of these vehicles have ABS, traction control, power steering, (maybe) power brakes, and modern tires. Just like you, they’re used to the car helping them keep itself on the road. Most of you can barely drive on a damp road in your 2000+ daily at the speed limit, let alone hold it together in the bends during a torrential downpour in a 1950’s-1960’s period correct race car. Yeah, these guys are looking clumsy, but I’m completely positive that you’d have the toy wrecked within the first lap. Until you’ve mastered driving with the same circumstances, you’ve still yet to lose your training wheels.
Hence why I leave the traction control off all winter, so that I am constantly practicing how to handle a not entirely planted car. Admittedly abs brakes are nice. I've driven my Sprite hard in the rain, things can definitely get squirmy.
I appreciate your grind to better your ability to drive, John. Much respect! Take care of that Sprite. As a past owner of one, I know the struggle to replace the bits.
@@robbymidgett3797 I'll have to admit, the Sprite has been a dream to own. Easy to work on, parts are cheap. It's been super reliable, I do put a lot of preventative maintenance into it. It also helps to drive it, I've put about 2k miles per year on mine for three years straight. It's an easy car to trust, and hence, it's a very enjoyable classic.
John Pearson Yep. They’re an absolute laugh riot! Mine was a 64 Mark II track day build with the 18GB engine and gearbox from an MGB. It was an angry little bastard, but reasonably reliable, economic, and a complete holler around a course. I was being a nunse for selling the little kit. Glad to hear someone’s enjoying theirs. Have fun, stay safe!
I love this video. Why do they show that commercial crap in the tv when this is where the action is at. All those similar cars racing tracks they're underpowered for or overburdened with tech too. Its just not fun to watch, this race from this single camera showed the atmosphere and tension that racing is. I also loved it was raining.
McLarenF1God - that's why the Europeans are the best racing drivers - cos we race in all conditions! Also, there wouldn't be much racing in the UK if we didn't race in the rain!
