Another trip to the Castle. Medieval castles are scattered all over Poland, and this time I went to the Carpathian Foothills to Czchów. A very small town near Bochnia in Lesser Poland with a very old history dating back to the Piast times. A charming place where a very old church from the Middle Ages with Romanesque elements casts its spell on me. But this object is not the main attraction of this episode.
And it is the Czchów Castle, another Watchtower on the Dunajec River. One of many in southern Poland, but perfectly reconstructed. The roots of the Castle date back to the division of the district and the rule of the King of Bohemia. The fortress may not be very famous among other castles in Poland, but it also has its own great history. Polish Kings visited this Castle and took care of its development at the end of the Middle Ages, which resulted in the prosperity of the town of Czchów itself. The Moldavian Hospodars also settled their accounts here, which is a very interesting fact in the history of this stronghold.
The Castle itself is a small facility, but the Romanesque Tower is very impressive here. It is also worth noting that most of it has survived to this day. The rebuilt Gate Tower also gives us an idea of how solid the Defense Fortification used to be.
When visiting the Castle itself, we will come across a good exhibition presenting machines often used in these dark ages with a good description of them.
At the very end of the film, I will tell you about the final history of the Castle and its latest history leading us to the present day.
