Who were the Vistula people really? Vikings? Slavic? Avars? Or maybe today's Krakow was a cultural melting pot in the 9th century AD and perhaps laid the foundations for the future Piast state?
In today's episode, I will try to present this great mystery to you against the background of the great Krakow mounds, and in particular the Krakus Mound. Perhaps most of you know the legend of Krak and Wanda, or perhaps almost none of you? Today it may even seem like a fairy tale, but without knowing the realities of the Middle Ages, how else could we present the secret of Krakow's founders to others? Certainly, the legendary Krak could have been a flesh-and-blood character, but who was he really and who did he lead? The Vistula tribe is known to historians, but is quite enigmatic.
However, as you will see in this episode, these people, in honor of their ruler, could build huge mounds in Krakow and its surroundings, resembling structures straight from Scandinavia. They could also have been Celts, and a migrating family from the north or from Russia improved the ancient structures already existing here? Or maybe it was done by the Slavs under the control of the Avars during their march towards central Europe? And how could the Great Moravian State contribute to all this - perhaps by forcing the baptism of the powerful Prince of the Vistula?
Who knows if this story has a double bottom. Because also in the film you will see old photos documenting historical monuments unknown to us from very long ago, which are not talked about today and the memory of them seems to be blurred.
