When I think about it, Shanoa is one of the really rare strong female characters in videogames. Her design is elegant and pretty, yet not overly sexualized. She is skilled at what she does and faces many emotional challenges during the events of the game, yet, she prevails, even in her darkest hour. She attempts to show emotion, even when she couldn't show any, which, ironically, makes us show emotion toward her. Her smile was perhaps the greatest reward this game could offer after all she had to go through. All those elements make me admire Shanoa and this game as a whole.
sumerian88 Damn, that's a good analysis. I'm not a major fan of Shanoa, but you hit the nail on the head for why I think that she's a good character regardless. Hey, Feminist Frequency? Here's a game you'll probably find a reason to hate, protagonist be damned.
Let us also not forget Albus. :3 He is as important as Shanoa, keeping her alive at the cost of his own; if given the chance, I think the two of them would have made a nice battle duo like Jonathan and Charlotte -- Shanoa is more melee, while Albus can cover her with his long-to-mid-range proficiency.
@@gomezmontanojoseangel9190 For now, lookup Bloodstained: ritual of the night. That is the closest thing at least gameplay wise I have found to this castlevania instalment. Though storywise order of ecclesia is unrivalled.
@@gomezmontanojoseangel9190 Well, you got your wish. Castlevania: Dominus Collection got released yesterday on consoles and Steam, and it has Order of Ecclesia in it, as well as Portrait of Ruin, Dawn of Sorrow and Haunted Castle.
@@Zack-pd2km I know Dawn’s artstyle is terrible and the reason they didn’t choose the SoTN artstyle because Nintendo’s consoles are especially popular among younger gamers.
I bought this game 2 years ago, just about. Hands down my favorite castlevania, and I never realized just how good of a character shanoa is until a few months ago. Also, exams suck
By far the coolest female character design in videogames. Samus was improved even further as visual goes in Metroid Dread, pretty neat stuff, but Shanoa still reigns supreme
0:01 triggers flashbacks of game over and hitting start as soon as you see the edge of the circle. game wasn't too hard but i certainly died alot. bring back shanoa
I’m praying that when the netflix show gets deeper in seasons, they’ll animate Order of Ecclesia, this is still such an iconic Castlevania game for me and i think OoE’s story has alot of potential for a good adaption
Hopefully. OoE is weird in that it doesn't state any particular year in which it takes place, but it could certainly coexist with Trevor's time period. He could run into the Order and initially be fooled by its declared manifesto to eradicate Dracula with the power of Glyph magic, only to learn the awful truth later.
@@WhiteFangofWar I don't remember them stating a year but I'm certain it can't coexist with Trevor since the Belmont Clan doesn't exist anymore at the time OoE takes place, that's why Albus was collecting blood samples from descendants of the lost Belmont lineage. Ecclesia itself was founded (alongside other similar institutions, as stated in the game) as a way of taking on the task of dealing with Dracula, since the Belmonts weren't around anymore, and it seems they've been gone for a while before the events of OoE.
I really hope one day they re release this game or give it a remaster on modern consoles. I just want more people to experience the peak of 2D castlevania
Imagine this getting a widescreen port on the switch, that would be legendary. As well as a map editor to create custom worlds you can plop on a empty save file that's hasent been completed yet.
Order of Eccesia Really brought new life to the franchise by combining the jump inside the castle and kill dracula thing (made popular by Symphony of the Night) with the older castlevanias "stages" (Think Simon Belmont) and then a mini Castle at the end of the game. Awesome idea and i hope the next game does the same
@XAytherxRedictusX Juste from HoD was pretty frickin' awesome. He was a vampire hunter/spellcaster hybrid who basically used a series of spellbooks to run rape all over all of the bosses. Easily one of my favorite boss rush modes in a Castlevania game. Very unappreciated Belmont, probably also one of the strongest. He could equip Alucard's Twilight Cloak and these funky boots and fly all over the screen, that shit was crazy. Soma's soul collection ability was cool too.
Shanoa is probably my favorite female video game protagonist. I was a latecomer to the Castlevania games and only got to play them extensively during their Nintendo DS era. I already played the Soma Cruz games and Portrait of Ruin so I was a little wary at first when I read that the new protagonist for this is going to be a woman and her playstyle will be somewhat different from the typical male heroes that came before. When I finished the game, it instantly became my number 1 favorite of all the Castlevania games I played. Amazing animation and gameplay, compelling characters and story, and the soundtrack for this is just a masterpiece. 11/10
Loved the art style, music, and gameplay. The Story had potential and interesting ideas, though it didn't do much with it. Still, I'd play this over any of the recent castlevanias we've gotten.
This was the last good Castlevania game and a very good way to end the series, Castlevania 1 on the NES was one of my first videogames ever, I grew up playing Castlevania, then lords of shadow came and ruined everything, goodbye Castlevania... you will always remain an important part of my life...
HigiCura have you heard that IGA is reviving the franchise? Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is coming in 2017. It's Castlevania but with a different name! It's all set in stone! www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night/video_share
Seaz Master There's not really much to expand on. Shanoa's pretty damn heartbroken, Ecclesia is finished, Dracula is sealed for another fifty million years or whatever, and the village is just peachy. What else is there for Shanoa, really? Though, if Albus Mode was canon, then I can see him just running off to who knows where after shooting Dracula in the face, seeing how many more vampire asses he can kick. God damn was Albus cool.
Plus there is no space left in the Castlevania timeline to add a sequel OoE2. However we are missing a pre-circle of the moon, if it's still canon to this timeline, and a Castlevania wars or the batlle of '99! The timeline was abandoned! We are also missing a translated noble of the events of 2037 after Aria and Dawn of sorrow! That noble is in Japanese and a Japan exclusive!😔
This game is clearly better than Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of ruin in terms of plot and gaming experience; perhaps even as awesome as SOTN. I wish Komami released the story of Julius Belmont by taking into account the great performance of this game.
