It not that Black panthers don't exist, they do, melanistic Leopards and Jaguars are literally Black panthers, both being melanistic and of the genus (Panthera) = Panthers. It just Black panthers aren't there own genus or species, and any member of the genus (Panthera) in melanistic form is a Black panther.

For the Snow Leopard, even though they cannot roar, they still have an incomplete ossified hyoid, like the big cat counterparts. Since the classification for big cat is the incomplete ossified hyoid bone, they fall into it. They lack the ability to roar due to their larynx as they are missing fibroelastic ligaments that would allow for their larynx to expand. Scientists do believe that the muscular system of the hyoid could also play a part in it too, as it is different from their other big cat counterparts. The Hyoid isn't a true indicator of roaring as it's the Larynx that produces the roar. The incomplete ossified Hyoid bone allows the vocal tracts to expand, the elastic membranes allow for more open vocals. There are also white panthers, like white lions and white tigers.
